Also, IIJM or does meta.failcourse seem slow by comparison with this thread? Still not fixed their ridiculous streaming and JS weight problems…
It seems better than it used to, I think, and I know that they've claimed to have made some performance improvements. But of course, the "big" topic performance is still getting the "we'll do it this release for sure!" treatment.
Meanwhile (OK, was four months ago, though the thread is still going):
: In general, when something goes wrong with Discourse loading process (due to PrivacyBadger, NoScript or another reason), I see the blank page. I think this is not good UX.
: I don't care. There's more, but those are direct quotes.
Turns out that cloudflare was doing some sketchy stuff with cookies. Dang, but serving up letters is fucking hard!

I just had a better idea.
Instead of serving content, create a bit-flag. The bit flag will be 8 bits long and represent each letter in the alphabet, plus numbers.
This way instead of serving up horrible, yucky, BYTES like a luddite, we can have ten-year-proof bit-flags and perform ultra-fast bitwise operations on them.
I've literally never ever ONCE heard anyone say anything abd about this idea, so fuck you.

Is his wife still alive? If so, how many livers did she go through? Because I'd certainly be unable to live with a self-righteous asshole like that without shitloads of alcohol.

Correct bits but they were streamed in the wrong order. Concurrency is difficult. Do a hard refresh. BANNED.

@fbmac Your browser sends a list of preferred languages, often based on the settings of your operating system.
I see that list in English, despite being physically located in the Netherlands.
-
One would think so, but there's something else involved. My browser is sending
Accept-Language: en-US,en;q=0.5
, but I get it in Portuguese too.

I'm sure this joke has been done already, but... maybe he should push things back one day, for appropriate dramatic effect...

Except, as pointed out by @zecc, google doesn't respect that. And that's annoying, because translations are almost always inferior than the original version of anything. Sometimes we even get some machine translated shit that doesn't even make sense.

NTEXT. It's important to include unicode in your 8-bit-long flag.

Today in the glorious
land of North Koreaworld of Jeff and his minions...Hey guys, is it possible to restrict the creation of polls to certain trust levels?
Maybe. How hard would it be, ?
Why do you need this?
Because <valid reasons>
I'd also like this as I have <other valid reasons>
Just disable polls altogether, staff can create them anyway because they can do anything.
Err nope, disabled means that it's disabled for anyone.
But not anymore after this pull request!Files changed: 328

Love the excellent use of softcoding practices! All these existing systems don't take into account what could happen if we change L into FEHU, or if we ever add a letter to the alphabet.
-
@AlexMedia That is the retardedest pull request ever. Looks like he got confused about which branch to use or something. Looks like it should have been just this one:
Files changed: 10
Additions: 50
Deletions: 13
-
Oh, I get it now. Other commits were added to that pull request by completely different people a couple of days after it was created.
What I don't get is why you would do that. Why not create a separate PR instead, and keep the original PR for its intended purpose? It's not like PRs are expensive, right?
-
@AlexMedia If you look at the PR:
...wants to merge 37 commits into
discourse:prettyes6
fromtgxworld:allow_admin_to_create_polls_even_when_disabled
I think that what happened is that he probably merged in stuff from the master branch and is trying to merge his stuff into the
prettyes6
branch. After he closed that one, he made another where it's just merging his single commit intomaster
.Probably wasn't paying attention to the target branch dropdown on github when he created the PR.

JeffSam must really hate me now.And that's while I didn't attack him personally, I just replied to that awfully unprofessional post and even gave him what he wanted - a couple of screenshots from sites that get polls right (including Facebook).
I think I'm going to get banned, but here's my post for posterity's sake:

@boomzilla said in How can this be so wrong??? (AKA the Discopocalypse thread):
tgxworld:allow_admin_to_create_polls_even_when_disabled
Wow, that branchname alone is horrible. I know this is what Jeff thought Discourse did all along... but even if it did, why would admins be able to use stuff from disabled plugins?
This is a workaround at best, more like an ugly hack...Filed Under: This. Is. DISCOURSE!!!! kicks the messenger down the hole
-
That post is certainly going to be blackholed as it is offtopic. And as you use the same nickname, you'll probably get yourself banned as well.
-
@AlexMedia I think I can edit it to be better.
-
@pydsigner I like how @sam has jumped in to subvert Jeff by actually engaging in a reasonable conversation about how to improve polls:

-
@Lorne-Kates You didn't get an email because you weren't trying to be constructive at all. You also have a different ban notice.
-
I got an e-mail too. It was mostly about us being poopyheads, Sam defending Jeff, and Sam once again calling us poopyheads when I said we acted like that because Jeff was being the poopyhead.
-

@Lorne-Kates You didn't get an email because you weren't trying to be constructive at all. You also have a different ban notice.
Funnily enough, I was being constructive. I wasn't just calling him a spleen-poking cunt-tard. I was telling him that by being a spleen-poking cunt-tard, he's discouraging others from presenting ideas. And that since he's a mammoth spleen-poking cunt-tard, he's overlooking the ideas that people are presenting right now. And if he stopped being a horny spleen-poking cunt-tard, he'd see that what he's asking for has been given to him. So overall he should stop being a oil-headed spleen-poking cunt-tard, and everything will get better.

As we like to say, Reading is Fundamental!

Why do they like to say that?
Why is fundamental capitalized?
Is banning also FUNdamental?

With my vague understanding of the US legal system, I thought that was how they pass unpopular laws... By attaching them to the back of other bills....
