There's also a liability difference (at least in the USA):
- Fraud with a credit card has a legally limited liability of up to $50.
- Fraud with a debit card is limited to $50 if reported within two business days, but the liability can be up to the total amount if not promptly reported.
Which strays quite close to TDEMSYR territory, given that you don't receive a bank statement every two business days.
Every financial institution I know of has online statements that are pretty up-to-date.
And every person I know who has worked in finance recommends reviewing your accounts daily.

That sounds about as likely to happen as average users spontaneously changing their password every X days (whatever the value of X).
-
@remi I used to check my statement daily, or nearly so, because I was so broke I had to check whether I could afford to buy a bottle of milk for breakfast or a couple of gallons of gas so I could continue going to work. Now that I have a month or two of salary in savings, not so much.

I'm also a bit astounded by the backwards ways of the US
Job security. Why should they change to customer-convenient methods when what they have "works".

I'm not surprised. I'm convinced that for every food item, someone somewhere has a condition. (Of course, I'm including imaginary conditions)

With the exception of essential nutrients, I would agree.

I'm pretty sure we can find someone that is convinced (wrongly of course) that they're allergic to those too.

If you make a strong enough wi-fi signal that's just an unshielded microwave oven, so I'd assume people would react poorly to wi-fi at some power level.

@carrievs I can't really think of any legitimate way for someone to prove that they're not racist... literally any argument they make will just prompt more of "the lady doth protest too much, methinks".
I have had a couple of people tell me that they could not possibly be racist because they belong to Race Y or Z. :) There are two major (contradictory) definitions of racism, and if you use the second one, then this is an effective proof.

Roy and Kayla Moore aren't racist:
they have a black friendTo be fair, that one guy is, like, 15% of the Jewish population in Alabama.
I have often felt that the conditioned attitude towards that defense is not quite right. If the statement, "Some of my best friends are Jewish" (or whatever) is true, it would seem to be at least a piece of evidence against at least the most extreme forms of antisemitism (or whatever).

@boomzilla any decent army surplus store carries those. The rockets, however... Those are harder to get a hold of.
-
“gun that could have killed somebody or destroyed a whole universe — just one of those guns“
Destroyed a whole universe? Did someone else turn in a Sun Crusher? Good lord.
-
@boomzilla That looks like our nice (swedish-made) single-use anti-tank weapon. If it's a proper one, it will contain one rocket. If it's used, it's pretty much just a harmless glass fiber pipe. Or it's a practice weapon that fires bullets (either 9mm or 20mm depending on type), not rockets.

I'm reasonably certain that wasn't his idea. She must be amazing in bed for him to put up with that sort of crazy.
Also, the STD in question is HPV, which around 75% of the population have some strain or another of. The vast majority of people who have it probably don't know it. Oh, and:
edit: also, even if she does have a "new" HPV infection, it may not have come from him... it's apparently crazy easy for it to spread. You can get it by "going to third base"; in fact, even just by sitting down...
researchers think women are also contracting HPV from unclean medical examination tables and other relatively public places like the gym
~50% of virgins tested in the studies had it.

-
@polygeekery oh, I dunno, maybe they could ask the doctor who performed the gyno exam and took the swab to test for HPV?
