What vegetables do people there typically have with roast meat?
Peas, carrots, roasted peppers, leeks, parsnips, swede

Did you just assume my produces?
Seriously though, it's a big world. There's no reason to believe the vegetables you have access to have the same quality everywhere.
-
@Jaloopa Roasted potatoes
Beans
-
@Rhywden Potatoes don't count as vegetables. It's an insult to roast meat not to serve it with them.
I did forget beans though

@Scarlet_Manuka said in In other news today...:

Sprouts, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower. (Only one from that group per meal.)
Peas, beans. (Similarly, only rarely more than one here unless made into salad ingredients.)
Carrots, parsnips, turnips. Perhaps courgette in season. I guess you could have jerusalem artichokes. Salads work well during the summer. There's just like a ton of different options, and it's nice to have a good mix with that roasted pork. Or beef. Or chicken. Or lamb. Orā¦

@dkf Lamb goes very well with green beans and roasted potatoes (the combination I pictured above)
-
@Rhywden I tend to count potatoes in a different category (bulk carbs) more in line with rice and pasta.
And yes, they're very nice with roasted meat.

I have never had pumpkin. I've had other squashes. But most common would be potatoes, carrots, green beans, onions, celery. Mmmmmm....

I think it's a fair cop when we're talking about pumpkin substitutes.

pumpkin pie [is] pretty much the only way most people ever eat pumpkin
wat.
What vegetables do people there typically have with roast meat? Pumpkin is one of the better available options.
I think you misread him. He said that most people never eat pumpkin except when they have pumpkin pie. Other vegetables weren't implicated in the statement.
As far as to your question, though, potatoes. Mashed or roasted. Other people have already mentioned some of these (I'm surprised that potatoes weren't mentioned sooner than @boomzilla's last post), but other common side vegetables are green beans, carrots, peas, corn, broccoli, cauliflower, other varieties of squash, roasted peppers, onions, brussels sprouts, or sweet potatoes. In some parts of the country, greens, cabbage, okra, or turnips would also be common.

swede
My grandmother was a farmer, she was horrified people eat swedes: 'they're what the livestock eats!'. Not terribly fond of them or parsnip myself either.

I've heard that's the reaction in a lot of Europe. I love a bit of mashed swede with butter and loads of pepper. Yummy

I hear that Danish are much more tasty.
Also, isn't cannibalism frowned upon?

@Rhywden I was just going to say, for those like me who only know "Swede" as a demonym, you may have heard of the rutabaga

Blocking auto-playing: Lets wait and figure this out
Automatically logging in Chrome whenever you login on a Google site: Full steam ahead! But also,
The problem is Googleās change to Chrome messes with the long-standing Web Audio API. Online games and interactive web art and all kinds of other experiments relied on the API to play audio. Under the new Chrome changes, those web pages wonāt play sound anymore. Worse, thereās no way for users to disable or block the feature.
I'm no highly paid Google UI designer, but aren't there a hundred context-sensitive things Chrome already asks the user about? "Do you want to save this password?" "We just blocked a popup, did you actually want it?" "Do you want this random site to know your location?" How about something like "This site is trying to make some noise even though you just wanted to read about Elon Musk or whatever. Did you actually want to watch and listen to the auto playing video?"

They say Swedes taste of fermented fish and allen keys.
But yeah, it's the same with Asians and manioc: some farmers grow it here, but only for the pigs. It would be a nutritious alternative to rice and much less demanding, alas nobody gets it.

Peruvian chicken restaurants around here deep fry it as an alternative to normal potato fries, though of course they call it yuca. It's very good that way.

Yup. Can't do that with sticky rice either.

TRWTF is inkjet printers in 2018.

My HP inkjet started complaining the genuine HP cartridge in it wasn't genuine. That was like 4 years ago, I unplugged it and just print stuff off at work now.
-
@loopback0 Naturally. You can't possibly still be using the original bit of ink in it after that long.
I also do all my printing at work.

@dcon I wonder how this affects the ability as a device owner to get the Google Apps for free if they're not supplied by the manufacturer.
This is already how it is if the manufacturer isn't part of the Open Handset Alliance.

This is already how it is if the manufacturer isn't part of the Open Handset Alliance. And since there is no way to get the Play Store and Googleās apps in Europe without paying the license fee anymore
I would assume that means you have to pay now. No more free.

@dcon I assumed that referred to the manufacturer still.

@dcon shouldn't matter much, extra fines and fees are basically European culture
