WTF is happening with Windows 10? And nothing else

@topspin You forgot the part where Edge will harvest all your Chrome dataz without asking for permission.
-
@Atazhaia And the part where they have accidentally forgotten to disable sending every URL to Bing.

But how else would they protect you from phiscamming?

Some time ago, I completely removed Edge. Unlike Internet Explorer, which was deeply embedded into Windows, Edge is just another browser. Removing it is relatively easy and causes no problems --at least not on Windows 10.
However, I don't use Outlook or Teams so I don't know what sort of hilarity will ensue if you click on a link and there is no Edge.

Oh that's easy:

@Tsaukpaetra Chrome should offer to support microsoft-edge as a destination app.

Yeah, I had that bullshit dialog with paint, even thought paint is installed. One of the dumbest, most useless UI I've seen, which says a lot for MS.
-
@TimeBandit said in WTF is happening with Windows 10? And nothing else:
A couple days ago Outlook stopped working in Chrome for me. (It goes into an endless redirect cycle.) It seemed like there was a time MS had stopped waging war on other browsers, but I guess they're confident enough now in Edge that they're back to their old games.

Had that. Turned out the RAM wasn't being run at the correct voltage. Or it was just randomly bad. One of the two.

Literally, I did not. However it was fun running the physics sims on real-time kinematic inverse-reprojected environments.

Apparently this dashboard says Win 10 is the Standard. You know, despite the massive push mandating Windows 11 here...

@Tsaukpaetra the fact it’s using the version string not the version number is also a bonus WTF. Unless that’s a web abomination in which case, carry on.

Nope, it's literally comparing the string. 9x anyone?
It does the same to try to "detect" Office, and similarly dings the stability score if it doesn't say that exact thing.
Oh did I mention this is metrics for stability? Yeah. Not having Office is considered a stability problem....
-
@Tsaukpaetra it is a stability problem, for Microsoft’s bank account.

This is my current concern, as I'm currently stretching tasks that normally take maybe three hours to read 12 hours on my timesheet...

The life of Beta testers
users are experiencing a variety of issues after upgrading their Windows 10 machines to the latest update.
A majority of the reports involve Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) errors for Windows 10 users with the error code "PROCESS1 INITIALIZATION FAILED". A quick glance on an outdated Microsoft article about the error code reveals that it has something to do with the Bootcat file.
Furthermore, users noted that they are getting error code 0x800f0922 when trying to install the update on their machine. There are also reports of users getting random restarts, a string of error messages, update failures and crashes after installing the update.
-
@TimeBandit Oh, joy. My work laptop keeps telling me that, "Your organization requires you to restart your computer for updates by [tomorrow]". Obviously, I'm postponing it for as long as possible.
-
@HardwareGeek said in WTF is happening with Windows 10? And nothing else:
Obviously, I'm postponing it for as long as possible.
Wonder if there's a registry setting for that to make it indefinite?
-
@Tsaukpaetra there's one to make it effectively indefinite but when updates are controlled by SCCM it won't matter.
-
-
At this point, Microsoft updates really are jamming the noodles, aren’t they?

Dates are hard
Surface Pro X owners have spotted that they can roll their date back to May 22nd, and the camera works again.

@TimeBandit But of all the days, why May 23rd?

Still having the same issue.
After some more research, I found the solution in the Microsoft forum.
I just need to download a tool, and they provide the link to it.
The link is a 404

When I have those issues it's usually because Windows Update is trying to install shit it already installed or no longer requires. Typically "pausing" and then checking for updates makes them go away.
