WTF is happening with Windows 10? And nothing else
-
Irregardless... Not without regarding?
I just put that there to see if it would make anyone's eye twitch.
Anyways, it is technically possible to null post-burnt data:http://superuser.com/a/791934/339049
And if the disk wasn't finalized, an appended TOC session could easily make Windows "believe" that it's "not there".
These objections are either trivially worked around or probably not relevant to this situation. Not necessarily in that order.
-
advanced fuckery
Ah yeah. Apparently that's not yet fixed (again). I used to have to eject the disk (Using the so-called "Safely Remove Hardware" function) before it would accept the transfer.
-
Hey, you don't need to tell me.
FWIW, I use Rufus and it has not failed me yet. I can write 32 bit images from 64 bit OS, it formats the drive before it starts, etc.
Basically everything that the sack of monkey shit MS tool should do.
-
So what's up with MS trying to trick me to make Windows use the Microsoft account as the Windows login on every single fucking login page it can?
-
MS is trying to become Apple, with shittier products and no fanaticism (except blakey's).
-
I don't know, apple's flag ship isn't as unique as It once was. Microsoft is lined up to have a really nice ecosystem, and hololens is pretty much what I've always wanted. They're doing a good job these days.
-
More like trying to do the same thing Google does and tying all your data to "the cloud" (or more specifically their cloud).
-
Also, yes.
They seem to be pretty far behind the curve anymore. They need some major wins, or it could be entirely possible for them to fade in to obscurity.
-
hololens is pretty much what I've always wanted
For what? Outside of CAD/CAM, I cannot think of a good use case in the near future. (Caveat, I don't game)
-
and then deletes the image from the disk so I can't try again without redownloading
They must come from the Adobe Flash Installer school of thought.
-
Rufus is a silly name though.
-
Rufus is a silly name though.
Because of what?
It's just Latin for "red", probably also "red-haired".

my desktop at work is a clunky POS with 2GB RAM that doesn't seem to be upgradable.
You have to be fist-fucking me? How old is it??
About 4 years old and bought as the cheapest they could find at the time.

About 4 years old
Wtf...
Didn't you get hired recently? Are they dumb enough to skimp on dev hardware? (on top of everything in 🔛🔛🔜🔚 thread)

It was bigger than a refrigerator. It weighed more than a ton. And it looked kinda like one of those massive cylindrical air conditioning units that used to sit outside your grade school cafeteria.
~ 5MB of data. That's about 4 floppy disks!!!eleventy-one1

Seems to me even 4'' hard would be better than 8'' floppy.
The post you quoted mentioned 4', not 4''....

The post you quoted mentioned 4', not 4''....
At first I was indeed confused by ' and '' but decided to post anyway.
even 4''
I'm not sure if it doesn't work in English this way but the intended meaning was [even if it was 4'' instead of 4' it would still be better].

Care to elaborate? I'm thinking of a pretty far-fetched reference but I'm probably wrong.

If you have to ask, you ain't never gonna know.

What's a "disc"? That thing they used in the 70s?
Yeah, but he also said "optical disk", so I guess it means one of those for your eyes...
-
it means one of those for your eyes
Nah, it just means that you can see it. Non-optical disks are of course invisible to the clothed-eye.

Didn't you get hired recently? Are they dumb enough to skimp on dev hardware? (on top of everything in 🔛🔛🔜🔚 thread)I have a third-hand PC. It identifies itself as
<name>-PC
where said name is not mine, nor the name of the guy who had it before me.

I have a third-hand PC.
At 4 years old, I'd be wondering about replacements if it was originally a high-end system. For something that started out low-balled…

The mail app is so broken it's not funny anymore.
Currently, it:
- Randomly (or at least, in a pattern I can't work out) checks for new mail, despite being set up to update as soon as items arrive
- Very rarely updates the live tile, regardless of how many emails are waiting. My phone accurately reports the number of new emails, while the desktop app, and the notification thing, both update following their own 'schedule'
- The button to save account settings is disabled so I can't even mess with the settings and try to see if any work better
- When it finally does recognise a new email, it includes all deleted emails from the same address. Consequently, it will tell me I have 48 emails from Facebook, 75 from Wordpress, etc.
- It usually doesn't mark emails as being read so my phone still reports multiple unread emails.
-
My mail app doesn't work at all since the combined update thing. There's an update in the store that never manages to download.
My Chrome is also screwed since a couple of days ago. It currently looks like this
-
My Chrome is also screwed since a couple of days ago.
Windows ain't done til Chrome don't run.
-
Edge also doesn't like Google Play Music. Maybe we are seeing the return of the big bad Microsoft
-
Google has been doing web kit only extensions to the internet for years now. Microsoft is the more tame one in that regard, these days.
-
I was going to counter that point with "works in Opera", then I remembered that Opera is just Chrome now.

I don't experience any of those problems.
"The server you are trying to connect to doesn't support Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync."
There, no further problems. Thank you MS.Plus, not related to email, I like the new feature that lets me delete temporary files and previous OS version as many times as I want.
24GB to romove. Delete it. "Working on it"... done. 24GB to remove.

Meanwhile my boss demanded my work laptop be upgraded to 16 GB, even though it never gets close to consuming the 8 GB I have now.
My alternative suggestion, to put a real SSD inside it instead of that dumb SSD/HD combo thing, was ignored. Probably because an SSD costs slightly more.
But your HDD has 2TB. A SSD has less than 2TB. Why would I pay to downgrade your computer?
And you see, 16 is bigger than 8. I'm making your numbers go up!!!!
-
That almost looks like a corrupted theme issue. Are you using the default?

And that's why I'm asking for an upgrade from 2TB to 4GB. 4 is a larger number than 2, see?

There are Chrome themes?
-
Reminds me of a tale of a child that was given a ten dollar bill, then traded for two ones, then three quarters, then four dimes, and finally five pennies...
-
Why yes. Yes there are.
-
I have a feeling that would work better in gliglibau than in merbau since they call a ten pound note a "tenner". Otherwise you're pulling a Microsoft and listing your numbers in order as 10, 2, 3, 4, 5.
-
No, I was more talking about the unit count rather than the interpreted value.
Huh. Did I just whoosh?!?
-
Spın̈al Tap? Really?
How do we nominate this guy for a "Doesn't get the joke" award?
Dude! If you know what you're looking at, how can you possibly not get the joke?
-

Something got corrupted. Uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome fixed it
