In which blakey doesn't ask for help with reducing notifications
-
Have you considered that the problem is...you?
I also find the high level of meaningless drivel--which leaks into legitimate topics--grating.

That's fair, but it's also a different issue than notifications.
Blakey's problem is like saying that you don't want to hear the TV in the other room, but that you consider turning the volume down to be an unacceptable solution.
You're saying that the commercial breaks get in the way of watching the show.
-
Maybe your request deserves a serious reply, so here's one.
First of all, I'm only constantly making fun of you because your style of writing and your "arguments", which would have made Schopenhauer proud, don't deserve being taken seriously most of the time.
Secondly, if you were willing to stick to the topic—at least in some threads/categories—and actually listen to other people's arguments instead of throwing a tantrum, I would consider doing the same and try to stay on topic. Even though it'd be against the nature of this forum, I would be willing to have a civilized Discourse™ with you from time to time, as
GodJeff intended. But that would require at least some good will on your part.
-
If my problem is pain from my leg the logical solution seems to be removing my leg.
?
-
You've been told a way to make it work better for you
I've already posted here why that doesn't work.
-
I want to be notified when people post to my thread, on the assumption that they're trying to interact with me in some way. Right?
You have a flaw in your assumption. People are idiots, and don't care whose thread they're making a mess in. When you see that people aren't trying to interact with you, and you don't want to interact with them, just abandon the thread and its notifications. If someone later wants to interact with you, they can summon you any of the other ways. That they abuse that too is a problem that you should ask galgorah to solve. With prejudice.
Even worse, if I set all these threads to "Tracking" I have no way to tell apart my threads from other threads I just happen to be tracking, except my own fragile human memory, which sucks.
On topic lists, the left-most avatar in the participant list is that of the OP. It's a terrible UX, but there is a way.
On the notification list, there isn't. I can make a GreaseMonkey script for that if you really want me to.

That doesn't work on mobile.

Unless you're using--
That doesn't work on mobile.
Yeah, that.
-
i doubt that'll be next release but apparently the ability to mute users is coming so blakey can mute troublemakers like @accalia, @RaceProUK and @boomzilla and prevent us from generating unwanted notifications (or at least prevent most of the unwanted notifications)
so that should help, right? he'd actually use that feature to make his life easier right? right?
Never underestimate the power of wishful thinking.
-
You know, I wouldn't be surprised if some people deliberately post irrelevant stuff into blakeyrat topics because his reaction to it amuses them...
(Not that Discoshoes makes it easy to discern who the OP actually is...)
-
who the OP actually is..
Is this terribly important? I mean...I guess if it's something you created and something you really want to stay on topic. Which, BTW, people often request, and people seem to be pretty good in general.
Otherwise, normal human interaction (I know, I know) tends to branch out, and TDWTF has pretty much always worked that way.
-
-
Clarification: My stance has always been that who the OP is is not terribly significant.
I am aware at least one user on this forum thinks different.
-
-
Look guys, FOR THE BILLIONTH TIME, I do not care if threads go off-topic (generally). I care that I get notifications and when I visit them it's useless unfunny bullshit that wastes my time.
Clearly the answer is that we should all PM our posts to you before we post them, so you can verify that they contain the appropriate level of humor and/or information?

Or just assume they don't. Does @blakeyrat like anything we post?
-
Is this terribly important?
Judging from the fact this topic exists, it seems important to some people?
-
Does @blakeyrat like anything we post?

-
Those are just the ones he accidentally clicked "Like" but hasn't clicked "Undo Like" yet.
-
-
Does @blakeyrat like anything we post?
Probably, but he doesn't Like anything we post.
-
-
GODDAMN KEEP YOUR HUMORLESS POST BLOAT OUT OF TOPICS I CREATED!
Seriously, I have no idea what you're trying to say with this.
-
He doesn't row.
-
No, he doesn't row.
-
No, he doesn't row.
No, he doesn't row.
No, he doesn't row.I'm afraid that didn't make it any clearer.
-
Have I wooshed you there? We were quoting the scene from Bioshock Infinite.
SORRY BLAKEY I DIDN'T MEAN TO START TALKING ABOUT BADGES IN YOUR THREAD.
-
Bioshock Infinite
This still isn't helping....hang on...google...google...google...
Oh, some humorless recycled video game bullshit. Carry on.
-
Lives, lived, will live.
Dies, died, will die.
If we could perceive time as it really was...
what reason would grammar professors have to get out of bed?
Anyway the joke makes sense if you aren't Republican-aged.
-
-
We already have that, just switch the topic to default, or mute if you insist.
-
Using Google in a BlakeyThread = Doing It Wrong™.
Just because we're humoring him doesn't mean we have to stoop to his level.
-
That would require blakey to do that. Which he's refusing.
-
-

Yeah, but can you run semantic analysis on replies to my posts and only notify me about ones which are interesting to me? Is that even on your todo list, eh?
-
Maybe I should enable discodice mode ?
-
Are the dice
furryfuzzy?
-
its a 6 sided dice with 7 numbers printed on it and they are all prime.
-
why do the dice return anything but 4?
function discoDice(){
//discorandom
return 4;
}
if I set all these threads to "Tracking" I have no way to tell apart my threads from other threads I just happen to be tracking, except my own fragile human memory, which sucks.
Make a list.
-
Make a list.
I have one, and every time I create a new thread it automatically gets added to it.
-

Yes, but you're clearly not happy with the functionality of that particular list.
-
I'm not happy about the functionality of ANYTHING on this shitty forum.
-
Well try the workaround I suggested.
Besides, you appear to be asking for one of two things, one of which is impossible, and the other is constrained not by the functionality of Discourse but the functionality of the majority of the human race.
-
I thought that the profile has a list of topics you started, vs just things you have set to 'watching' vs. 'tracking' (talking about: http://what.thedailywtf.com/users/blakeyrat/activity/topics) or did I miss something else in your list problem?
-
Yes that would indeed be a list of topics the user started, sorted descending by last activity date (clearly undicsoverable).
-
Also, I'd like to see a screencap of blakeyrat's @mention count (as pointed out below, we can see each other's profile mention counts and etc)... I can only imagine it is a stupidly high number.
I'm lucky enough to not be as annoying of an asshat and have only gotten 170 of them myself.
But hell, if blakeyrat hates his notifications list... mine is almost 10,000 notifications long and only 170 of them are mentions..... goddamn you, Likes Topic.
Filed Under: The correct way to talk about someone if you don't give a crap if they read it or not.
-
Also, I'd like to see a screencap of blakeyrat's @mention count
Of course, you could have also gone to his profile page
-
How about people just not post tedious unfunny shit at all?
That would be a very boring forum. Conversation naturally involves people injecting comments they find funny, memes, anecdotes, etc. If you don't like it, then a forum is not for you.
