It's too late for them in this country, people have moved on to other streaming services. Just stop advertising your non-service, you greedy fucks.
To be fair, I suppose old content is a plague suffered by all streaming services except for maybe Hulu (which is also not available in Canada). They make it real easy for cord cutters here to ignore their services.

Even a bad one is better than none.
I have a note on my front door asking UPS/FedEx to leave stuff by my back door. It doesn't eliminate the possibility of theft, but it's not visible from the street, so it reduces it significantly. Plus, it's better protected from the weather.

build or buy a weatherproof box large enough to fit your packages and then place an unlocked padlock on the latch with instructions for the carrier to place inside the box and then lock it... multiple deliveries in one day would mean that only one would be able to secure their delivered items, although a slot might help with smaller/narrower packages.
Most packages I get that are small enough for that (most packages I get, period, actually) come USPS, and they put them in the parcel lockers that they provide for that purpose — two shared lockers; letter carrier has a master key, puts packages in a locker, puts the key in recipient's mailbox along with regular mail. When the recipient unlocks the locker, the key is retained in the lock and cannot be removed without the carrier's master key. If someone managed to make a duplicate key before unlocking the locker, the evidence of the crime would be left behind when that someone tried to use it, and I'm pretty sure that 18 USC 1708 would be investigated and prosecuted a little more vigorously than the mere theft of your latest acquisition from Dildos'Я'Us.

His box is a ~2' cube, so it will cover most packages. It all depends on where you want to put it and whether or not that would become an eyesore.

I assume your mailbox is locked?

Yes. Around here, all the mailboxes for a dozen or so houses are in a centralized location, rather like you might see in an apartment complex, even in suburban areas where I would expect each house to have a box by its front door. I posted a GIS image of a similar setup a long discotime ago, but CBA to find it or GIS again.
-
I know what you are talking about. Makes sense. Not a bad way to do things for small packages.
-
Haha, I saw these picture scrollers earlier. I searched for hard drives. Then I got scrollbars of nothing but pictures of hard drives.
Thanks Amazon,
Just what I wanted to help me find what I want,
pictures of EVERYTHING THAT LOOKS THE SAME WITH NO TEXTUAL INFO.

Yeah, I ship to my in-laws 5 blocks away. FIL is retired.

A real nerd would have all of the model numbers memorized so that the text would be unnecessary. Amateur.

It's the end result of broken window style policing.

if you're going to have physical keys they're either going to need to be a master key to all the boxes (thus undoing the security one someone gets a copy and shares it online)
You mean a Knox box, like (probably nearly) every apartment building and strip mall in the US already has?

I was going to post a screenshot from Google Street view of something like that, but when I found the place, the boxes faced away from the street.

We have these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200966210
They're probably very hand if you live/work near one.I just get stuff delivered to work.

Dang, that was a pain. I made a post in the Bad Ideas thread describing what I had to do to crop the picture. Worse--cutting the picture in half, which is basically what I did, made it take up MORE space! It went from 1.7MB to 1.9MB.
At any rate, like described above, each office gets one of the smaller boxes. If you get a package too big to fit, it goes into one of the bottom two boxes, with the key for that box in your mailbox. If it's too big for THAT, in my building, the mailman[1] comes in and delivers it to whoever's closest to the front door. the things I've seen in subdivisions that don't have individual mailboxes look just like this, but are a standalone thing.
[1] And it is a man, in our building.

That's basically what I've got in my neighborhood. I'm one of the lucky ones. The box is about 100 yards from my house.

In my neighborhood, we have two freestanding units. One has a dozen small, individual mailboxes. Next to it is one with two parcel lockers, each roughly a foot cubed.
The box is about 100 yards from my house.
Conveniently, mine is right in front of my house. :)
-
I think that Amazon is confused about my gender.
-

Lucky bastard.Actually, I kind of like not having it in front of my house. I don't have to worry about assholes parking in front of my driveway while they get their mail. I've seen it happen.
-
If you're where I think you are, Google tells me there's one on Ave. D.
Blakeyrat lives nowhere. Blakeyrat is only a pixel.
There was a copy shop on Ave. D, maybe it sold-out to UPS? It wasn't a couple years ago, but I don't go by there often.
-
It really sucks that there's no way to use an online store locator to see if there is a shop near you in under a minute.
-
I don't have to worry about assholes parking in front of my driveway while they get their mail.
Not a problem for me. The mailboxes are at the opposite side of the lot from my driveway, and the street isn't wide enough to park without interfering with traffic. (Pedantically, the street is plenty wide enough, but the way the lanes are striped, there's no place to park.)
-

Or maybe you forgot to go incognito when shopping for your unmentionables?

This is on my work computer, so
yes, definitely shopping for unmentionablesprobably not as accurate as my computer at home would be.
-
I think that Amazon is confused about my gender.
Does your wife know about your ... issues?
Seriously, this could make sense if you were shopping for gifts for people of the female sort, which does happen occasionally this time of year.
-
She was talking about buying a sewing machine, so I'm blaming her for that one.

As if that would stop some assholes.

Going thru San Francisco just the other day, some asshole parked on 19th Ave. (That's the 3-lane "highway" thru the city. For you non-SF folks, it's a plain city street and just doesn't allow left turns.) At least it was 6am on Sat and no one was around...
Oh wait, the bad driving thread is that way...
-
19th Ave.
What's really sad is that going a few miles out of your way to take Van Ness through the heart of downtown is faster than taking the direct route down 19th, at least outside of commute hours.

That's what I would do, although more of my business was off Van Ness.

More of a UPS WTF, but last night at 12:07AM I got an email from UPS saying that I had a package scheduled to be delivered "tomorrow". Now, as I was still up and "tomorrow" for me was today as it had only been the 9th for about 7 minutes. What they meant was that it would be delivered on the 10th.
Yeah, I get it. Not really a WTF as most people are sleeping, but it threw me for a second.

another annoyance..... I can't shop on amazon.com and ship to outside the country. even if the item i'm buying can be shipped to Blighty i have to shop on amazon.com.uk....
that's going to be annoying for my x-mas shopping this year.
-
Well I guess you'll just have to use that hugely successful British online retailer-- oh wait.

Occado?

Ordered pokemon pajama pants. Got Dr. Who knit hat.
Amazon: Pants on head retarded.
-
Amazon was rumored to have "pre-cog" ordering in the works. Maybe they decided to go down the route of "send people stuff that will not get them made fun of" ordering instead?
-

Says the guy who ordered Pokémon pajamas. (Aside: The accented-character spelling of Pokémon is in the Windows dictionary.)

Sounds like it didn't work.
-
ok. just got a delivery confirmation notification for a package i ordered last week.
why is that strange? because according to amazon the order is still pending and they havent sent the shipping notification yet.
-
Speaking of notifications and tracking, etc, am I the only person who thinks that USPS tracking is completely useless most of the time? I got a package yesterday that never even had tracking information available until after the package was delivered. 4 days in transit and no tracking until it was already delivered. Completely useless.
-
That sounds about typical.
-
Their "insurance" is even more useless, if anyone wants to hear that nifty little story...
I will gladly pay more so that the USPS never touches my package.
-

@algorythmics, what do--aw, never mind, this one's too easy.
-
Walked right in to that one, didn't I?
Although, many years ago in another city, I had an attractive female Post(person? woman?) and I probably would have paid her to touch my package...
-

I'm supposed to be getting a package soon. USPS tracking says it'll be delivered on Friday. But the most recent entry in the log says it left the local post office this morning and is out for delivery.
Or maybe they don't have much confidence in my particular postman.
