Dibs if that works on Steam
-
I suppose now would be a bad time to point out that Syberia is only half of a game, with Syberia 2 the other half?
Unless they added Syberia 2 to the bundle since I last checked.
Edit: Nope, still just Syberia 1.

Sent a PM, hopefully it's gonna work. I haven't used HB's gifting system before.

Huh. Well, there goes my plan to finally enjoy an adventure game...
Unless they added Syberia 2 to the bundle since I last checked.
Unlikely, they normally only add games to the main bundle, not the weekly ones.
-

Syberia 2 goes on sale all the time on GOG and Steam. Unfortunately, even on sale it'll probably set you back $5 or so, which is 2/3 of what you need to pay for that entire bundle...
It's weird, because these days, Syberia 1 and 2 are usually sold together. You'd think they'd be bundled together as well.
-
The Longest Journey is better. Possibly the best adventure game ever made, actually.
It has a sequel I've never played.
Then again, I didn't give Syberia enough of a chance. I should try it again sometime.

The Longest Journey is great.
Its sequel, Dreamfall, is less great. It's like they took a third person shooter engine and used it to make an adventure game. It even has stealth and combat sequences in it,
Incidentally, The Longest Journey's second sequel, Dreamfall Chapters is being worked on right now. By worked on, I mean "2 of 5 episodes have already been released." It's better than Dreamfall Chapters, but still nowhere near The Longest Journey.
I still think my favorite adventure game of all time is Day of the Tentacle. It's not currently for sale anywhere, but Double-Fine is expecting to release a remaster of it by the end of this year... we'll see if they hit that target.

It's not a bad game. It just kinda drags once you reach the University in the game and I got "Ooh, shiny!"ed by another game and never went back to finish it.

It's not what you'd call a challenging game. But I got dragged in by the atmosphere, mostly.
That thing needs an HD remake. It looks great as it is, but it would be even better with some fresh renders.

Oh boy. For the longest time, DOTT was my favorite game of all time.
Ironically, back when I first played it as a kid, I had only the rudimentary English skills, so I had absolutely no idea what was going on. In addition, I never figured out you're supposed to do something with the time machine plans (copy protection, didn't know to look in the txt file with combinations). So basically, I just took Bernard as far as I could, solving random puzzles in the present and never even unlocking the time travel part. Still loved it.
So later, once I came back to it as a teen, it was a blast to play it properly. Fantastic game.

Fun fact: The copy protection was only present on the floppy disk version. The CD version just had Dr. Fred look at the plans, then go over and flush them.
In their naivete, LucasArts figured no one had CD burners.
(Incidentally, the CD version is also fully voice acted for the entire game.)

That was common for early CD games. Ahh, the good old times...

No episodic game ever lasts longer than 2 chapters. It's done.

Oh man I thought the start of the game dragged, now you're telling me there's a double-drag?
Maybe I won't give it another chance.
-
Its sequel, Dreamfall, is less great. It's like they took a third person shooter engine and used it to make an adventure game. It even has stealth and combat sequences in it,
It also think it has the most unsatisfying ending of probably any media I've consumed. At least most downer endings have some sense of closure.
-
Have you consumed Manos: The Hands of Fate? Or Monster A Go-Go?
I need a benchmark here.
-

This isn't Valve we're talking about.
Life is Strange managed to make it to episode 3 (of 6). They're actually sticking to their "every other month" schedule, too. If you haven't heard of Life is Strange, it's by the same people who made Remember Me.
One thing other thing Life is Strange and Dreamfall Chapters have in common is that the game remembers your choices. It seems like a lot of episodic adventure games are doing this ever since TellTale did it in The Walking Dead.
-

...and by association, Dreamfall Chapters started out with a downer opening:
April Ryan's funeral
and
Zoey still in a coma
.
One of these things is resolved early on (kinda has to be), but the other...

I played Wizardry 6, 7, 8, bitch. You don't even who you talking to.
-

No. I'm sure many people here could name things that are worse -- I am not "well-cultured" in, well really any media forms. But it's true for me.I need a benchmark here.

I have been somewhat tempted to get this, but I don't know all that much about it. Is it good? One of these things is resolved early on (kinda has to be), but the other...
Eh, the
coma
thing didn't feel very down to me, and as you say it's resolved pretty quickly. The state of the world is more depressing, though I think it works really well. The other thing I figure almost has to be retconned/reversed at some point during the story through the "storyteller" thread. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking, and I'll be totally wrong.
-
I have been somewhat tempted to get this, but I don't know all that much about it. Is it good?
I think so. The mechanic of being able to reverse time adds some interesting quirks... as long as you haven't left an area yet, you can rewind and change your decision(s).
The game (ab)uses this for its optional photography collectibles, as certain pictures can only be snapped if you intentionally let something kinda bad happen.
I should note that I haven't yet played episode 3. Which is a shame as if I had, I'd be able to tell you exactly how much of an effect your decisions actually make... due to a major event that happens near the end of episode 2.

http://store.steampowered.com/agecheck/app/207610/ would like a word, and so would it's sequel.
-
........ what did you do to steam FrostCat?
-
To be fair, at least they chose sensible names for placeholders
-
At the same time, their buttons are clearly hardcoded rather than bound to a collection. Or maybe the binding just broke.
-
what did you do to steam FrostCat?
...shared @ben_lubar's internet connection with you?
Nope, it's borked now. I got that URL out of Chrome; I tried pasting it into a new IE window, and now I get that on both of them. They must've belgium ed something up
-
I can't watch Steam broadcasts because valve311 has been giving me HTTP 503 errors all week and I emailed Valve's webmaster email address and they haven't done anything.
I can force it to some other valve content server, but 311 is always what it gives me.

And it's not just a temporal bug!

temporal
Unless time travel is involved, you want the word "temporary".
And it probably was that, because it's working for me now.

Someone hasn't been keeping up with Jeffisms.
I can't really blame you, though.
-
That was common for early CD games. Ahh, the good old times...
I remember Duke Nukem 3D had copy protection to the extent that the CD said "do not make illegal copies of this CD" on it. Not that you needed to, since it ran without the CD in the drive so "pirating" it consisted of borrowing a friend's copy and installing it
-

Yeah, I'm not going to be bothered with stupid misuses of the language by native speakers. Non-native speakers, I give a pass, but I do try sometimes to gently let them know when they use the language wrong. I'd want the same.
-
As with a lot of things, you can blame Jeff.
-
Remember how I said Syberia 2 goes on sale all the time? GOG has it DRM-free for $1.99 right now.
-
This game just popped up in my badges list:
https://steamdb.info/app/368020/depots/
Gee, I wonder what that could be.
-
The cards have been appearing for a week now.
Rumor has it that the sale starts at 10am PDT today. We'll see, though.

Was it last year they did that dust thing? With those lame super-expensive auctions?
I hope it's better this year.

This is a good deal:
##Don't Starve

Interesting survival sim. I never got really far, but always had fun while it lasted.
-
If you want a good deal, travel a year or two into the past.
-
I much prefer Don't Starve Together, which for reasons unknown is actually a separate game than Don't Starve and so lags behind the DLC. But for me, co-op is more more fun than single player.

For me, this is "let's take a break, on a whim" kind of game. Something I can pick up whenever I want and exit the minute I'm bored. Having to coordinate with a bunch of people, synchronize everyone's schedules, deal with other peoples' shit... that sounds like work.
-
I play with my husband, so it's easier to coordinate schedules :) Marrying a geek is like a permanent LAN party

You need a game you both like though. My girlfriend just doesn't get Civilization, for example, and AoE2 stopped being fun after I got my ass handed to me 10th time in a row.

The Evil Within is on sale today on Steam. Steam originally posted it at the wrong price (50% off) but fixed it to be 75% after a few minutes.
Its Season Pass is also 50% off, but the individual DLC entries aren't on sale.
I've heard this game is really good (if you like Survival Horror)... it also happens to be by the guy who did the first 4 Resident Evil games (plus Zero and Code Veronica) before CapCom let him go.

Steam is pissing me off, so here's a few great deals on GOG.

Fantastic RPG/strategy and one of the hardest games I ever played.
Don't buy the crappy remake, buy this. It's fantastic.$1.49

The best take on "top-down elite" so far. This is some kind of polished and updated version of Space Rangers 2, which is OK, because it's a great game.
$3.79

EADOR: GENESIS
one of the hardest games I ever played.
Too hard for me, gave up.
SPACE RANGERS HD: A WAR APART
Really enjoyed this one, spent ages on it.
-
Too hard for me, gave up.
I did the save scumming thing and I still got stuck halfway into the campaign. I might give it another try if I ever find the time.
-

Have you played Escape Velocity? I need to gauge "best".

I tried it at some point. Didn't grab me. Space Rangers is better.

Escape Velocity didn't grab you. There's a physics joke in here somewhere.
