Well, @Mott555's pic is of a 12 year old vehicle.
So it's from this century? What's the excuse for how it looks?
Plus, who worries about form over function?
There's form over function, and then there's tying a rope around your pants because you can't be bothered finding a belt. Do you wear a bathrobe and slippers to work or do you dress professionally? That's form over function.

Just jealous we still have an automobile industry and you ain't got shit.
-
If your industry is turning out boiled turds with bad acne, maybe you shouldn't be bragging about it? The US is world-renowned for poor quality automobiles.
-
I don't want an automobile industry. It's a net loss. Some retards over here think it's worth supporting (people need jobs!) but it would be cheaper to put all the automobile industry workers on the dole or pay them to break rocks instead of paying GM or Ford to continue to operate an automotive factory.
-
-
Isn't that in the wrong thread?
-
So it's from this century? What's the excuse for how it looks?
Huh? It looks a lot better than what you posted.
Isn't that in the wrong thread?
Maybe you're in the wrong thread.

Your mum's in the wrong thread!

It's not. I drive a Ford Fusion.
The US is world-renowned for poor quality automobiles.
Compared to the BRITISH!?
Dude.
Do you know WHY the British have no auto industry? It's because in the entire decade of the 60s and 70s they didn't produce a SINGLE automobile without at least 47 separate wiring faults. American cars of that era weren't exciting by any means, but they still worked as cars.
I don't want an automobile industry.
Oh. Right. Of course. You don't want one. Suuure.
-
-
Compared to the BRITISH!?
Who mentioned the British? I prefer Japanese and German engineering.
Why don't the British make computers? Because they couldn't work out how to make them leak oil.
-
It was 4°F this morning and my car nearly died a minute after I started it and tried to let it warm up. Yeesh.
The radio's LCD died, but the radio itself continued to work. Sometimes the display would flicker back on, sometimes it would display garbage, and sometimes it would work but was ghosted. I didn't know cold could cause that to happen.
Yeah. Something about the cold makes my CarPC refuse to boot. It's weird too, because if you're fast enough, you can watch part of the POST load up before it hard shutdowns.
Also, since apparently the air exchange is digitally controlled in my vehicle, and it is also affected by "extreme" cold , it will periodically decide to reset itself randomly (no, not toggle, because that would indicate a possible condensation issue in the button, thanks Helpful Service Engineer™), so making sure it's always "On" is an exercise in human-interrupt handling.Does this qualify as re-railment? Do we even have a for that?
-
I'm curious to see what @another_sam thinks of my last pickup which actually wasn't from this century. 1994 Silverado, 150 horsepower, 0 - 60 mph in about 25 seconds, and 14 mpg on a good day!
-
It was 4°F
At least it wasn't -5 with 30° of windchill. That can come close to freezing the oil in the oil pan.
-
50+ mpg, bitches.
You say that now. Get back to us after they "fix" your little smog problem.
-
My car was made in ■■■■■■■ ...
That leaves Volvo or Audi.
Except if it's older then it could be VW, Opel or Ford as well.
Or if you drive a lorry ... then it could be Volvo or DAF.
-
That big ominous cloud in the background -- does that come with the car?

How long has it been since your last emission test? You may want to get that checked.
-
Get back to us after they "fix" your little smog problem.
Seeing as they apparently can't fix it until at least Q3, I'll probably have changed cars by then anyway.
-
How long has it been since your last emission test?
I seriously hope you mean emissions, because those are two wildly different meanings.
-
-
FFS that's almost as long as it takes me to get almost anywhere!
Yes. It's been mentioned on these forums before, but doing many short trips is not good for motor vehicles.
Then again, I own literally the smallest Tacoma I could find at the time (it was also the only Manual transmission, because
apparently engines are now so powerfulclutching is too tricky for the averageconsumerAmerican).FTFMA
The trend towards car models not being offered in manual is unfortunately starting to catch on in Australia too. It makes me sad.
-
It's hard to see the lines with the door open, but I think it looks better than the other one you posted. Also its styling is closer to the decade it was manufactured. But still: WTF is with the headlights and the horizontal chrome right across the front?

An animated mp3.
Oooo... "porn". Why didn't you just say so?
Filed under: Also, I challenge you to find me a .wmv clip that isn't porn

but doing many short trips is not good for motor vehicles.
No choice, I don't work close enough to bike it, and it's close enough it's that short to drive.

You need an electric vehicle, two wheels or four doesn't matter.
-
You need an electric vehicle
Maybe. Does it recharge itself? I don't think I have enough coal to generate the required energy to do it by myself.
-
Does it recharge itself?
Does your current vehicle refuel itself?
I don't think I have enough coal to generate the required energy
Luckily the dirty stinky coal can be kept a long way from your house and you can just pay for the energy generated from it, which will be transmitted over wires straight into your house and garage. This has the additional advantage that if the sun shines, wind blows or uranium decays, the energy from those can also be transmitted to your house instead of you relying on a single energy source. What a wonderful world we live in!

Much sass. Very stick. Good hole.

The trend towards car models not being offered in manual is unfortunately starting to catch on in Australia too.
The one thing that manuals are truly incompatible with is being fully self-driving, and that's a feature that will be coming.
-

Here too, and me too. I also recently heard that in Stockholm almost half of the people taking a driving licence chooses to do so for automatic only (this is then noted on their driving licence and they are not allowed to drive a car with manual transmission).
I hope that this a big city problem, where (a) the availability of automatic cars is higher, (b) the need for a car is smaller in the first place, and (c) the need for a driving licence is mostly because "you need to have one" and so they opt for the fastest and cheapest route.
I've been sort of "meh" to the whole issue and assumed that my next car would be an automatic, but when I heard this I actively decided that my kids are not going to be restricted in this way so I will continue buying cars with manual transmissions until they have their driving licence (which is at least ten years into the future for my eldest daughter).
-
Meh. Automatic gearboxes have improved significantly over the last few years.
I spent a lot of time sat in traffic and a manual gets annoying after a while. My next car will be an automatic.

Ah, the modern world is sneaking in.

Hows does the transmission in your car for the next 10 years impact what transmission the car they learn to drive in has?
-
Having posted it, I'm not sure that sentence makes as much sense as I intended it to, but meh.

They can start practising with me/other family from when they're 16. Based on how often I have swapped cars so far, this is at most one car away. ...and two car-washes.

That's what I'm doing. The alternative is them going with automatic because that was the only thing available for them at home.
-
But who really cares? There's little reason to have a manual in your daily driver unless you're either really cheap or really rich.
-
-
really cheap
I also live in the countryside, where automatics or cars from this century are not really that common. Their first own car is likely to be a Volvo 240. Their first driving experience is probably either a Volvo BM or a Lamborghini.

I quite like the 240 - I'm tempted to buy one as a second car just to use for lugging stuff around or trips to the dump or whatever but they seem to be going up in price here.
-
How does that relate to automatic gearboxes? Even cheap cars are available with them.
-
the transmission in your car for the next 10 years
: :car: has a transmission for the next 10 years!
-
Really rich:
Yeah, but it is even getting harder to find a proper sports car with a real manual transmission. They all seem to be going paddle shift, etc. Corvettes with manual transmissions account for only 35% of Corvette sales and that number dwindles every year. A couple of years ago I toyed with the idea of buying another, newer Corvette and finding a used one with a manual transmission was difficult.
-
Many older cars have manual gearboxes, and are more common than older automatics – at least here in the states. Not sure if it's a big selling point, but the number is greater.
