I pasted that into regex101.com and it stuttered Chrome so bad it took almost ten seconds to close the tab...

I hate news sites that use meta refresh, and reload the page when I'm reading something. The thing I was reading even disappeared from the page after the refresh this time.

Fucking Google Hangouts. Google removed the Google Voice plugin a couple of years ago (due to removing whatever that sort of plugin was) and they've never made hangouts capable of using a headset.
Well, it might work if you set the headset as the default output and microphone but who wants that? I even have my headset microphone set in Chrome (where the hangouts extension lives) and it can't fucking figure it out.
Works for me, but
- I'm using Project Fi, which might be special, and
- My headset is my default input and output (my proper speakers are currently broken :()

That's for phones, right?

Or is this a computer? Yeah, no doubt if I put my headset as the primary devices it would go there, but then I'd be angry because I'd have to jump through hoops for regular browser audio.

Yes, but it also rings and is answerable on Hangouts on my computer.

I have my regular speakers set as the primary for everything except "Communication" . My headset is the preferred output device for Communication and the preferred for all recording (it's the only mic I have). I don't want to pipe everything by default to my headset.
My assumption is that when Chrome dumped the NaCL (?) plugins they didn't put a hook in for preferred mic or anything. Back in those days, the whole shebang was integrated with gmail (i.e., no separate window like Hangouts likes to create at random as fuck times - that's a separate rant). All of the settings were on the "Chat" tab, and you could select the speakers and mic it would use. And that didn't interfere with any other playback.
For a while, hangouts had its own settings relating to audio, but even that appears to be gone now (I guess they realized it didn't work). There is a microphone setting in Chrome's settings, but somehow that doesn't seem to have any effect on Hangouts.

In theory, you can:
There's also API calls that (in theory) should also let you select the input used:
But.... It doesn't seem to work all that well (For instance, I can't select the Microphone I want to use in the screenshot above).
Edit: Here's an example that (apparently) enumerates the available devices:
Still doesn't quite work though.
-
@tsaukpaetra In theory, that happened a long time ago:
In reality, I see the same thing happening there (Live input effects) as I do with hangouts. The microphone doesn't work until I manually set it to work in the mixer.

grumble grumble grumble
One of my testers reported an issue. She didn't identify which particular item in the app failed. After asking for that information she posted a screenshot with an Excel error (the issue is something we export as an Excel file) saying "There were errors. The errors are listed in C:\this\log\file".
Why the fuck would you post that fucking screenshot and not the fucking log file? Ready to start punching teeth out instead of pulling them one by one.

Hey Google, fuck you.
Being able to give a name to a place on the map, pretty much the most basic and essential feature of any mapping software, does not in any way require storing my web searches.

@anonymous234 said in The minor rants thread.:

Normally, no. But then, this is Google. They're probably saving that customization as part of your Search History, then when you load up the app it loads your search history and add the pins and things from there.

Gah! Another arm hair got into the little cavity under the mouse where the light is. Nothing like the mouse sometimes not behaving quite right to drive up one's blood pressure.

I mean, judging by the example of my parents, a kid not behaving quite right causes serious increase in blood pressure...

Why is the plug on the right so massive? Or is it just weird perception because of the pic's angle? In the US our rectangularish plugs wouldn't be larger than the outline around the right outlet.
Also, the one on the right looks plugged-in enough to function.

It's not, it just looks like it because of the perspective.
Also, the one on the right looks plugged-in enough to function.
It probably isn't. And even if it were, it's not going to be a good contact, potentially leading to some melty moments.

@mikehurley Oh, I also just realized there's some with regards to my plug size.

@bb36e There's a setting in the "hidden" debugging menu that shows all touch inputs as little transparent circles. IMO it should be an option in the normal settings because it's kinda useful and doesn't look bad.

They lied to us that Kotlin was a first class language on Android. I installed Android Studio, and as it was the new thing, I created a class with Kotlin. There was no working code completion, no warning telling me what method I needed to override in the abstract class I was inheriting from, nothing. Then I created the same class in Java, and Android Studio told me everything I should do, like any good IDE should.
-
@sockpuppet7 E_NO_REPRO. You have most likely set it up wrong.
-
@pie_flavor I spent 30 full seconds with kotlin. That was a default installation of Android Studio. I don't care if messing with some configurations it would behave better or whatnot.
Maybe some code completion would work, but Java told me from second 1 that I needed to override a method for my class to not be an abstract one. Then I right-clicked and it created a stub for me. I'll probably look at it again somewhere in the future, but that already killed the mood for now.
-
@sockpuppet7 Right. And I'm telling you that exact thing worked for me.
