Star Wars toy collection sell-off 'most unusual'
I was going to say that the quote:
The collection has grown to a huge size and I think it's time to move on to other collecting fields
Is man talk for ...it's you collection, or me... but on reflection that makes it less sad. However the article headline gets it just about right.

And that human's name is Miles Bennet Dyson.

The fox was eventually caught and destroyed.
-_-
i see i'll have to send an associate over there to educate them on the proper treatment of my brothers and sisters.

Judgement Day
The original as predicted in T1, or one of the dates it was pushed back to in the sequels?
The one from Terminator 2: Judgement DayIf the date changes maybe I have other friends with birthdays on other Judgement Days.

I'd be rather concerned (especially if I were the woman that was bitten) that an animal behaving that aggressively and atypically was rabid.
-
it's not impossible, but rather unlikely given the extreme measures that were taken to make sure the disease went away and stayed away. ;-)
-
AFAIK The Uk is still considered to be free of rabies in the wild. People would be more concerned about TB. But I am amazed that these people could not cope with a fox. God help them had it a dog bigger than a chiuaua.
We have some really fierce wild animals over here: Large cats, foxes, badges and rabbits and squirrels, especially those grey ones that go around beating up and dispossessing out native red ones. Oh yeah. I forgot pigeons and seagulls - they'll have you chips before you can blink.
-
Bugger. by the foxy lady herself.
Note to self: must improve typing speed (well it's not the typing so much as the correcting. I suppose if your just going to cut and paste, it aint no competition :) )

TIL. So crazy fox was just crazy.
>servicemen returning from war smuggled rabid dogs back to Britain.

So crazy fox was just crazy.
probably not so much crazy as scared.
rabies has a super long incubation period before symptoms show, and you are contageous for quite a while while you are still asymptomatic.
so yeah. they probably didn't know.

Somebody hold me back from replying to this
You have seen my long name, right?
the Sultanatrix earned her nickname!
-
Well, now I have.
I had assumed that Swypos was some exotic nicher than niche software product (I now know what it means, and I somehow feel that in doing so I have somehow reduced my overall smartness).
As for Sultanatix, I have an image of a female Sultan confused / fused with that of a dominatrix. Problem is, when I try to goggle it, all I get are a load of references to some website calling itsself what.thedailyWFT :WTF: goggle!
-
probably not so much crazy as scared.
Certainly a frightened animal will become aggressive if trapped, but they will usually run away if given the opportunity. I get the impression that the fox had ample opportunity to run away (and little reason to be frightened) while the scared people were cornered inside the building.

fusion of swype (mobile keyboard) and typo

that was the general idea. mostly because it made me giggle uncontrolably for ten minutes when it was coined rather than for any actual accuracy

in general yes, but depending on personality they can become aggressive instead.
that's even more likely if they are hurt or a mother.
for example: she may have been a new mother of kits and was defending her territory from the human invaders

Those stupid laundry icons
Reminded me of this:

Remind me to tell you about the catastrophe graph (it involves a three dimensional curve in 2d space) one day.

/me sits down and waits for story time.

Damn. There goes my mental image of a Betty Boop caricature replete with the veils, holding a long whip and wearing hi-heels
-
hmm.... well there's a cosplay idea.....
i wonder if i have enough time to get it together before the next con. ;-)
-
I need to find an image, as it will save a lot of words etc. It's on my @todo list
-
In the case of a canine. A = Threat, N= Aggression.
As the threat increases, the dog's aggression travels the lower curve. At some point, the level of aggression abruptly jumps from the lower to the upper curve.
The reverse is equally true: as the threat decreases: aggression travels down the upper curve and then abruptly jumps to the lower.
I.e. a dog can go from whimpering to barking instantly and unpredictably
-
A lot of physical systems follow similar models; anything with some sort of non-empty hysteresis curve might exhibit the behaviour in some aspect (even if not in a way that you can utilise). It can be used to make binary systems more stable though, so it's not always bad.

An old (2010) story from former Sun employee Jeremy Allison.
David Miller wrote (at the end of a long email explaining how Sparc Linux used cache optimizations to beat Solaris on performance):
"One final note. When you have to deal with SunSOFT to report a bug, how "important" do you have (ie. Fortune 500?) to be and how big of a customer do you have to be (multi million dollar purchases?) to get direct access to Sun's Engineers at Sun Quentin? With Linux, all you have to do is send me or one of the other SparcLinux hackers an email and we will attend to your bug in due time. We have too much pride in our system to ignore you and not fix the bug."
To which Bryan Cantrill replied with this amazing retort:
"Have you ever kissed a girl?"
-
Really, this could actually be an Apple commercial.

Some dumb bimbo turned her entire body into a sign and then got offended that people attempt to read it:
-
“Just for the record, everyone, ‘What do they mean?’ isn’t a conversation starter either,” she clarifies. “It’s generally a conversation shut-down-er. Because that’s an incredibly personal question. Don’t ask strangers that. Like, ever.”
Maybe I should complain about all the people who talk to me about my beard. It's an awesome conversation starter.
-
I didn't bother
quoting herinflicting her words on others because reading her word-vomit makes the reader stupid.

Like, totally!

She listed her Twitter handle on her article. I kind of want to call her a cunt.

Windows Update error 0x80243004
If you receive Windows Update error 0x80243004 when Windows Update checks for new updates, the error means that the notification icon for Windows Update has disappeared. This prevents Windows Update from installing new updates. Follow these instructions to show the icon and continue installing updates.

People would be more concerned about TB.
Do foxes spread that? I thought it was just badgers.

In the wake of Sarah O'Connor getting tweeted about Skynet: do you suppose Michael Bolton has ever seen the movie "Office Space"?
-
No, but when you get a cut in the wild, tread on nail (opps) they are programed to think about the last time they had a tetanus shot. Which is what I meant to say initially, I had a thoughto and got confused about the other rural concern (which is largely imaginary) which is TB and that is supposed to come from badges and get's given to cows. Not that cows do not have or get TB. Then of course the is foot and mouth disease.

You'll be going on about eggs next
But, seriously. The point I was trying to make that in the UK, people will think of and forget all sorts of things before they think of rabies. Unless, of course, they have has prior experience / exposure (Now where did I see something about problem solving....)
Anyway, with most people's "shark" thinking, there is no "mad cows disease" in the direct route from canine to rabies.
Now, if you were set upon by a cow, it would be your first stop along the route. Perversely, if it was a bull the route would spontaneously develop a wormhole that lead directly to "...let's get the fuck out of here..." with out passing Go and only collecting 200 pounds (of prime beef
steakhorn in the rump) if you were unlucky.
-
Cows? Hah! Those are nothing compared to what we get out here...

I swear, at this point, it's like the Democrats are just seeing if there's any indignity they can subject journalists to, to which they will not acquiesce.
I wanna see leashes on 'em, next. I bet they'd do it.
