Watching a YT video from an aviation channel I watch occasionally, talking about an Alaska Airlines 737 that hit a bear on the runway a few days ago in Alaska. He goes on to describe the forms that have to be filled out (it's a "bird-strike" form, no matter what kind of animal you hit) and the inspection that has to be done. He then goes on to talk about the most unusual animal strike he's heard of.
Now the strangest thing that I've ever heard about when it comes to animals being struck by aircraft is actually from a friend of mine who was flying out of a, uh, a city down in southern France, and as they were climbing out at about 2000 feet, suddenly, from out of nowhere, they struck a hedgehog.
Yes, a hedgehog. At 2000 feet. Now, hedgehogs very rarely fly at those altitudes. Ok?
You don't say!
But what had happened in this case was that this poor hedgehog had had a really bad day.
Getting hit by an airplane could tend to put a damper on your enthusiasm, I suppose.
Em, it had been taken by a, a large predator, so, an eagle, I think it was. Now that eagle was flying was flying away with his prey, and looked over his shoulder and saw this huge 737 coming towards it, and as any smart bird would do, let go of its prey and did an evasive maneuver. Ok? But that just meant that that poor hedgehog, who had just been taken to be someone's dinner, was now released in midair, and then smacked into a 737-800. And once again, that's a "bird-strike" form you have to fill in; this time, Species: hedgehog. Where: 2000 feet, climbing.
You may think the is the wrong category, if you're the hedgehog, and maybe if you're the eagle that lost its dinner. Or if you're PETA, but your opinion doesn't count. But for humans, this is the right place.
(Transcription is mine, as are the comments, of course.)

@PleegWat Yup, that's the video.

A blurry picture of Biden looks like Bill Clinton.
The longer I'm married to my wife the more and more all white people look the same.

Once upon a time, "sql" was very common text-speak for school. In Poland, at least. Which makes no sense because the Polish word for it is szkoła.

I already think all white people look a like. But that goes for everyone else too.
I have so much trouble following characters who don't stand out in any way in TV and movies.

@error when I worked in a phone store, I was ordered to accept credit card payments with no verification at all - people just told me the name and I charged the card we had on record with the right amount. Technically I could charge anybody for any amount at any time with just a few clicks and the only way they would know would be if they looked into account statement or payment history. I really don't think password reuse is all that big of a security problem, all things considered.
-
Also, @Tsaukpaetra's dedicated server hosting is less reliable than @error's laptop in the trunk of his car.

A few years ago I had to open a new checking account when a hacker found my bank password in an unrelated data breach posted to the dark web (with which he was able to get my sooper seekret account number and address).
I've used unique random passwords ever since.
-
@error there's a bit difference between A FUCKING BANK ACCOUNT and the hundreds of random sites all over internet where I create a free account to access free content.
It's actually rather embarrassing that it took a hacker stealing from your checking account for you to figure out that having a unique password to A FUCKING BANK ACCOUNT is a good idea. But then, what did I expect from someone who doesn't even know how much they pay for utilities...
And it sounds like this one incident made you go overboard in the opposite direction, and you make unique passwords for everything. Which is a lot of additional hassle for no benefit. But you do you.

As far as I can tell, he’s got a metric shitload of cash, so I don’t see why he should care.

Good thing my bank doesn't use passwords but a seven digit PIN then.

@topspin I used to have a credit card that supported up to 8 digits, but I was always too afraid to try.

After I opened a fraud case, I wasn't liable for any of it.
But I had to set up ACH again for all my utilities. Which I do know how to pay: you set it and forget it.

Meh, my browser and password manager deal with most of the hassle. I pretty much know my main account logins for my personal and work computers, my KeePass password and the PINs for a couple of smart cards that I use regularly.
-
@boomzilla and again, for no real benefit, you get a new problem: can't log into anything if you don't have access to your computer.

I have KeePass on my phone, too. Anyways, this isn't a use case I give a shit about so you're only advocating adding to my problems, not solving them.

No. That has nothing to do with this.
