Yeah, that's kind of the point. Both are about half an order of magnitude wrong (π2 ≈ 10) and they're dealing with pretty large numbers, so it's good enough for a back of the envelope calculation. Also, there's probably other sources of larger inaccuracies anyway.

So, I ran in to a girl today who used to be employed by one of our clients. We chatted for a moment and I asked her what happened and why they parted ways. She is a pretty cool chick and was always a lot of fun to joke around with.
"Well, I was a little late a couple of times because I've been going through some personal things. So I took some time off and then decided not to go back until I had worked through what I needed to. Actually, I take that back. I was six hours late for work the last time."
Six hours is not "late for work". Six hours late is getting dangerously close to being early for your next shift.

@dcon how do you have to read this? If you have money (in that age group), does that absolve you from e.g. sex or friends? Or do the requirements stack?

At least it wasn't "Masturbation. We'll beat it."
-
@dkf No, for that I think they used a different one. I believe it was "Masturbation. We'll take it out."

Since you brought it up again, I just shrugged when I first saw this, but now I'm curious and would appreciate if anyone cared to explain the joke here.

This latest update was a terrible idea. I find it a lot quirkier. There was any change? The “has posted replies in” notifications have been taking me well past the last read post half of the time since approximately always, so I didn't observe any change. Except when they take me well into the already read part due to :jellybean:¹ , but then the reference post is still highlighted, so at least I can find it quickly.
¹ Ok, correction. I do notice some change now—I can't find half of the :emoji: that I was pretty sure existed.

I assumed it was something about planned electricity cuts in California? But if so the wording is a bit weird (why "tomorrow" specifically?). Either it's a weak joke or I'm ing. Or both.

@Bulb It used to be that clicking a topic in the unread would bring me to the latest unread post in that topic.
It's no longer the case.Same goes for clicking the oldest notification in /notifications (per topic).

Yeah, the notification popup is such a mess that the offered new replies notification for each thread was never guaranteed to be the correct one.

Thanks.
Even here, in a second world country, we don't have preventative blackouts.

you mean you aren't that advanced?
non-troll:
I know in there is a contingency plan in case of general power issues to shutdown the country in a organized manner. It is never used so far but was created a few years back when :winter_is_coming: we practically lost all nucleair power (or around 50% of the input).
-
@Luhmann said in The Official Funny Stuff Thread™:

I can understand shutting off power when you lose some power generation facilities.
I can even accept that blackouts are probably better than a chance to set everything on fire.
is having powerlines that can start fires when it's windy.

Yes.
But if so the wording is a bit weird (why "tomorrow" specifically?).
Electricity cuts, turns off your refrigerator, whether you like it or not, a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving.
"Not sure when to start defrosting your turkey? PG&E says we start tomorrow."
It's not a great joke, but it is a joke, of sorts, based on current events.

I wish I didn't get the joke.

PG&E is caught in the middle between "Sparks from your power lines started fires, and you owe $100000000000000000000000000000000000 in damages," and "No, you can't trim vegetation around your power lines to prevent sparks from starting fires, because wildlife habitat and esthetics."

@HardwareGeek How about taking a third option: insulate the bloody power lines so there won't be any sparks!

@Mason_Wheeler Nothing FB ever embeds for me, at least not on my desktop.
Edit: It embeds fine on my phone. Probably one or more of the adblocking/antispyware plugins I have on the desktop that I wish I had on the phone.
