4. You make a mental wager that the guy who successfully started a list on number 3 must have put a

before the 3 to get around Discourse and then check the raw and see you were right.5. You know that there are ways which require fewer characters than

and are easier than putting in the raw softhyphen character.- And then there's typing a HTML list tag, with the advantage of using an actual list tag in the cooked.
-
So even more typing?
Masochist.

-
Hey, I resent that allegation! I haven't touched PHP in weeks!
So you're just taking a break?
-
Nah, the C code has been needing clean-up.
The results of some targeted last-minute performance fixes didn't end up going in the release, but we've branched now and if I get the chance I'll bring out the machete and cut some dead wood starting next week. The guy who's been blocking that kind of work for the last decade got moved to a different project and isn't allowed to touch this any more.

US QWERTY lets you type a backslash with .
With my annoying brazillian notebook keyboard I have to type Alt Gr + Q to type a /. The \ is just left of Z.
And the backtick, that would be useful with VIM, is shift + key at right of P, followed by a space, because it thinks I may want to write an accent.
Whatever fucker creates these international layouts is not into programming, and certainly not a user of VIM.
-
More like programmers and developers of ViM used every key on their US-QWERTY keyboards.
-
I know VIM is WTFy with keys. But there is no excuse for /, \ and ? being annoying to type.

Why would you type a forward slash when you want a backslash?

Why would you type a forward slash when you want a backslash?
So when you read it back again it looks like a backslash.

I saw a ticket in our Remedy queue which was titled "FAO Jeff" and my first thought was "Jeff can fuck off".
-
What's that from?

The Talos Principle. one of the first worlds i think

Yup. 4th door thing, IIRC.
Cool game. A bit weird to play something like that and remember it was made by the same guys that made the mindless violence shootfest that is Serious Sam.
-
Why does it say
UH
in the middle when you decode it?
-
I didn't even try to decode it, TBQH. I assumed it's just gibberish, since those messages are one of the ways the game is feeding you story bits, and I also assumed they didn't actually reveal stuff in advance if you can do some basic ASCII.
-
The encoded parts of that message say "LIFE UH FIND5 A" and " WAY".
I actually wrote a script to decode and save each message I came across while playing that game.
-

Ooooh, it's actually stuff!
Ok, in that case:
-
I also assumed they didn't actually reveal stuff in advance if you can do some basic ASCII.
Easter eggs and shout-outs to other things are much more likely.
-
You keep reading this code snippet like this:
belgium = open(xxx, O_BINARY | O_WRONGLY | O_CREAT | O_TRUNC
Yes, censoring included.
-
You stay late at work to get that WTF you encountered posted (5 minutes, 5 hours, doesn't matter):
I find this so WTFy that I stayed 5 minutes past the time I'm supposed to leave work just to post this!

You make a trip to Ikea and when you look at the example rooms you wonder if that is what @Mikael_Svahnberg's home looks like.

Why, does he live in a furniture store?
-
Yes.
-
Huh. I did not know that. Weird.
-
If I had that many people walking through my living room, I would also be a gun nut.
-
I would also be a gun nut.
So with less people in your living room you are a regular nut?
-
Yes, I confess. I'm an otter.

The onions and carrots is sort of a baseline - even if I suspect the carrors are just added as cheap ballast. The mustard one is especially good for the x-mas smorgasbord, together with the tomato sauce version.
-
Vitlöksill and kryddsill are among my favourites, though I usually try to make my own (starting out with matjesill, which I can get from a decent deli or larger supermarket).

matjesill
Y'know, I'd really like to go to Scandinavia for at least a little while, but I'm starting to wonder. Something seems a little fishy about that place.
-
Look, if we're going to talk about shitty foreign food, at least keep the discussion in-house.
(I really want to know if this oneboxes)
-
I would never do that. We cut it up into pieces that are about an inch by half an inch. Then pickle it with something flavourful, and have with boiled potatoes (a small, waxy, flavourful variety, not one of the big or floury ones).
Of course, one of the best bits is that you wash this down with beer and akvavit, which is basically Swedish flavoured vodka.

... you just returned from a wedding, tired as all hell and you're checking your notifications...
Was it your wedding? Checking TDWTF notifications after (or during) your own wedding would make it even more hilarious.
-
Nah. If it were mine there would be a party 'round here as well most likely.
