I recommend an ear wax removal kit.Though if it’s bad enough to wake you up, you may need to resort to medical assistance and ear wax softening drops.

@Rhywden
They do make and sell OTC tools for self-cleaning your ear canals (at least here in the States). I’ve had to keep one handy since my college days, I think it’s a side effect of constantly using headphones.

status Just fixed a friend's Mac via Facebook.
She was complaining that a 'Q' typed 'A', etc (ahha, I thought AZERTY). No, that can't be it - only a US keyboard is there and the Mac tech already looked at that. I suggested adding a new keyboard, deleting US, rinse/repeat. What do ya know - her keyboard now works properly.
More amazed this was figured out with FB posts!

@e4tmyl33t Yes, your solution is absolutely correct. Don't ask me. This is basically a remedial class I'm teaching but even I can't undo ten years of whatever it is that caused this.
Head trauma. Lots and lots of repeated head trauma.
That's also the result: @Rhywden's head on his desk.

Not that bad. I was sorta drowsy, then accidentally screwed it up and woke up fully while trying to undo the damage.

Depending on what it is (I'm not a doctor and don't take random strangers' advice, obviously) a syringe with luke warm water could help get things unclogged.
Only helps with outer ear blockages. Middle ear blockages (common when you've got a cold) are ones you usually have to just wait out; medical professionals are loth to damage your eardrum to fix a mucus excess.

So you can guess where we're currently at regarding the average grades.
Have you been sending your pupils' maths stuff to Stephen Colbert? Because his drinking habits on the Late Show seem to indicate that this is the case.

I remember when that used to be how you'd write implementations of SOAP services when you had an externally-defined WSDL to work from. Get the WSDL, generate stubs from it, fill in the implementation code in the stubs, build and deploy. Job Done. Until some overeager beaver decides that the WSDL is wrong and tweaks it a bit. Or a lot. You're still going to have to rewrite your service implementation from scratch, whatever size of delta is applied.
Thankfully we don't work that way any more.

In one place I worked people were editing auto generated emf code. It got to the point where one of the leads wrote unit tests that took md5s of the code and failed if they were changed.

I had something very similar the other day. My laptop has a US keyboard but uses French locale (for, uh, raisins). Upon waking it from hibernation one morning, I found that one instance of Visual Studio had decided to switch to French (AZERTY) keyboard, but not the other instance nor any of the other programs.
It also had decided to add a French keyboard layout, but removing it wasn't enough, I had to close/reopen the offending VS session.

Since I visited France last year the payment confirmation screen for PayPal is stuck in French, absolutely everything else is in English still.
Language setting for the account is still on English and it's happening on every device I use, so it's not a cookie/session thing.

I assume this is donation-beggingCorrect. Many years ago, I thought I would do a good deed and donate $5 to Wikipedia during one of their pledge drive thing.
Ever since, I've gotten, like, a dozen being emails aa year, all written in the same bull shitty faux sincere "hey there fellow kids" style.
The only result is I get annoyed. I donated partially to help them get rid of that "personal plea" banner because it was annoying. What better way to try to get repeat donations than to annoy people 12x as much.

Same here and it was a big-ish donation as it really has helped me, after being bombarded with non-stop emails the fuckers aren't getting a penny more. I seriously regret ever giving them anything.

Beware of what you say. This argument has been known to cause code to spontaneously collapse into the "not working, won't ever work again, and no-way-it-could-have-worked-in-the-past" state.

Thankfully they said it was benign afterwards. It was my hairdresser that spotted it and said I needed to get the mole on my head seen to right now as it had changed drastically.
I had the operation in a teaching hospital so it was quite amusing hearing ' You'll never see this again in your career but this is an X of Y cells which never happens' while the X in question was on my head.

Status and shit: Trying to find a phone that will work on the T-Mo (US) network, so it can be used with a very basic $5/month plan that's suitable for urgent communication with my kid. The catch? I don't want to give my kids a fuckin' "smart"phone - just, well, a phone (you know, talking) that can also do SMS. Evidently, no one on this smartphone-addicted planet sells such a thing anymore brand-new, or if they do, it's locked to a different carrier or costs US$75+. I also worry about some of the used ones; if they aren't new enough, they won't support the frequency bands that T-Mo uses around here.
-
@Cursorkeys We get Bupa through work. I've never needed to use it fortunately (I've needed the NHS in that time either) but based on other people's experience it seems to offer benefit in some services - especially the mental health services.
