Are you sure heβs not just a support scammer? How many bitcon have you wired him so far? He's a guy they've been paying for remote access, antivirus (and monitoring), and backup. On many accounts this relationship is not worth it...

I hate to repeat myself with all my ASP.NET Core posts, but at this point I unironically believe it's one of the best case studies for anyone who wants to complain about OOP.
Like it's not badly designed, it's just designed in ways that abuse every OOP feature. For example, instead of having a class ThingDoer, there will be an interface IThingDoer, an almost empty class ThingDoerBase that implement it, and then a third class that provides the extension method ThingDoer.DoThing.
Or, instead of receiving a set of parameters, functions will receive another function that will receive an object containing the set of parameters and set them to what it wants them to be.

And now the software he attempted to reinstall is completely nonfunctional. Either that, or it doesn't like concurrently running--- oh yep. He signed out of the personal user account which was presumably running the UI, and now it will load.
Now he's trying to sign in, and apparently typing his username incorrectly.
Why are they paying this guy? I have all the confusion...
Did you call a number from a sketchy popup to reach this guy?

Status: My first public pull request got merged!
After like 9 months or so. I don't even quite remember anymore why I needed this urgently enough to contribute a patch, but now that it's in upstream I can at least delete my local branch.
-
Status: I have removed enough code and features from this stupid server that what little remains seems to be running kind of stable now. At least I can now no longer make it misbehave under crumbling load. And nobody will notice the missing features anyway.
While my preferred solution would have been to just get rid of this thing entirely, I can't quite tell the customer that a support contract gets them that advice. Still, I have no idea why it even exists, so I presume some clueless manager on the customer's side wanted it, and someone here made it happen. On a related note, other processes also suffered from the resource pressure. LibreOffice was open in the background, not doing anything. Why did it try to create threads?
Since I've wrapped around the PID counter probably 10 times and I'm not sure what else might be in a bad state now, I treated my workstation to a reboot.

Status: I hate Java and everything to do with it and Jetbrains. Android studio is horrible and unintuitive, and is absolutely loaded with the Android notification philosophy of spam endlessly for maximum torture. I really hope they let me go back to C#. I am probably more knowledgeable on C# and visual studio than anyone else here, and they're making me defile myself with the abject horror that is Java. If that pie kid tries to tell you Java is better these days, tell him to shut up. I thought, before I got saddled with this mess, that I'd just refamiliarize myself with the monstrosity, thinking it must be better than it was when I was in college. How wrong I was...
I tried unintellij, eclipse, and just plain notepad. Not a single one of them could compile, and installing several versions of Java didn't help. I couldn't even get any code to compile using the command line switches Java tools me to try to fix its inability to do the one thing it's there for.
Android studio works, but we use TFVC, so I have to manually tell it that I do actually care about changed Java files before I can check in, which I have to do using VS anyway...
And then we have Android itself! Ha! Something doesn't work? Luckily stack overflow can tell you all the wrong, deprecated solutions you could ever want.
Java needs to stop existing.

I don't mind Java all that much β it's not my favourite language, but it's not my least favourite either β but utterly loathe the way Jebrains products work. (I also don't develop for Android, which might help. The toolchain for that platform seems weird from everything I've read.) Little things like what shortcuts should do, where to look for tools, and how the integration with version control worksβ¦ they all drive me up the wall.
It's fascinating that my experience of the language is so different to yoursβ¦

He's using TFVC, that could explain it

Wait until one of them is marked as a "Duplicate" with a link to an earlier duplicate and your chain becomes circular.

As long as it gives its enums to C# first. Every time I go between the two I forget C#'s enums are pathetic and get really hacked off

ο put stuff on Moodle, students go to it and it's sending them to a URL
Ok That could be valid behavior, depending on what you put in the course.
So I ask the user for more details.
That was a mistake. After receiving an answer, I'm even more confused

You can actually add a URL with a description to a course, to send students read something.
As for a URL file, you could add it, but then only Windows machines would probably understand it
