Now all you need, is to shoot yourself with a stapler, and your journey to the derp side will be complete:
I already mentioned over in the guns thread that I once stapled a cardboard IDPA target to my hand.
Man, I thought that was @Polygeekery ...
Nope, I just shot myself with the staple gun but it didn't stick.
There is more than enough dumbassery to go around. I am happy to share it with @mott555

Yeah. I did that too. Only with fuming nitric acid. I was coughing for a week.

Hurting myself is one of my specialties. Also, I seem to have a fairly high pain threshold, which means a lot of times I hurt myself without feeling it, and once I finally notice blood everywhere I have no idea how it happened.

@Rhywden said in The Official Status Thread:
@mott555 Well, then it was probably quite diluted. I for myself wouldn't hand out any caustic substance of substantial strengths to pupils.
How do you define "substantial?" IIRC, bottles of 1 M HCl and NaOH and 2 (?) M H2SO4 were left on the benches for ready use. (In college. In high school, they were in a locked cabinet, and the instructor brought them out when needed; the room was used for a lot of classes other than Chem labs.)
OTOH, in college I was a student, and I was working in the back room mixing up the dilute (and not so dilute) solutions from 4 liter jugs of concentrated acids and ammonia, and jars of sodium hydroxide (working quickly, before the NaOH absorbed enough water from the air to make the amount we weighed out too inaccurate). So lots of exposure to caustic stuff in very substantial concentrations.

Status: Finally bought a 40 cubic foot argon bottle so I can finally use the TIG process on my welder. Now it's time to see if I can move beyond my farm-grade welding that looks straight out of The Red Green Show and make things that actually look nice.
I find TIG (mild/SS) feels really like soldering to me. If you haven't bought a foot pedal then buy one immediately, it makes a world of difference. Especially on the thinner stuff.
Edit: And gas lens kits are really nice, but a bit of a luxury.
A tangent: This is a pretty top-heavy place, i.e. more than half of the posts are made by a dozen people or so. But yet, there is no skill (such as welding) that one person has that another person here doesn't.
What about VB5? Do we have more than one person who's skilled at VB5 programming?
It shouldn't take too long to retrieve the transpiler rereference mappings....

No.

No.
Does it even work?
I mean, has anyone really been far yada yada to ever try it?I did get it to launch. It didn't get much farther than that.

In university, one of my dumbass roommates decided to clean the bathroom with bleach+ammonia, and left the door and window closed to "fumigate" it. I was ill and needed to use the toilet right now!!! That got me a quick trip to the Student Health Center.

I’m not exempt. Between nerve damage (spinal issues, nitric acid damage, and the results of removing large amounts of glass from autoclaves over a long period of time w/o gloves) plus high pain threshold means VSE is a thing.
I hope to never go blind as I can’t feel brail at all.
I’m just slightly less accident prone than my husband.

:why_would_you_do_that.xls:
Because the specialty glassware was both more expensive than you’d believe and the gloves sucked for gripping anything smooth, and speed.
During trial runs (molecular biology / GMO) I was pushing about 4-5 huge autoclave batches a shift, and the glassware was always needed now.

@TimeBandit I wasn't in the middle of anything, so I went ahead and told it to reboot now, rather than waiting an hour. WTF? It rebooted without the endless spinning circles of Installing Update 1 of 363464 0% complete. It didn't take any longer than a normal reboot without pending updates? Did it actually install anything, or will I have to do it again later?
Of course, it couldn't be that easy. My laptop now won't connect to the corporate Wi-Fi. (This may be unrelated to the update; I had the same problem a couple of days ago.)

Ahhh. Childhood: that’s among the things that made my mother regret the chemistry set (the old school one you special ordered from Carolina Biological Supply with all the things!)
Nowadays the stuff I ordered from CBS would probably get me on a “watch list”, or two, or three...

@M_Adams It's telling that you can order concentrated sulfuric and hydrochloric acid from Amazon easily (at least over here) but try to find a supplier for nitric acid if you aren't ordering for a school or a chemical business...

Status; I let my pupils each write a biography about famous physicists and the discoveries they're most renowned for.
The girl who handed in the piece about Heisenberg... I'm not sure if she took inspiration from Breaking Bad: Either she was on drugs or the whole essay was written by a Markov Chain generator (said generator wasn't too keen on proper spelling either).
Roughly translated excerpt:
[...] The electrons flow through both slits. it seems as throws, as if each particles overlaps the slits at the same time and each other. The world function is mathematically not physical particles and not a wave, simply said it's a physical description of the proton.

@Zerosquare Plagiarized something online in English (?), then bad Google translate to German? Although Heisenberg was German, so you'd think information about him would be as, if not more, readily available in German than English.

Can the latter be used to make bombs (TNT, nitroglycerin, ??) and the former can't?

Can the latter be used to make bombs (TNT, nitroglycerin, ??) and the former can't?Yes, a nitrating mixture for making things more exciting is sulphuric and nitric. I can't even get sulphuric over here, but hydrochloric is easily available. And some things that are very suspicious for individuals to get, such as benzaldehyde and hydroflouric acid are easy to get
Thankfully sulphuric can be made, and then you can use that to make nitric acid.
Edit: I needed a chemical that is restricted in the UK, but you can register for a licence. I filled in the million forms and registered. I was awarded the licence and went to the chem houses...only for every single one to just go 'lol'. I got audited on my 'inventory' the next year and was able to tell them that the licence was useless.
