Yup. According to a Valve post on Reddit, they changed something about how the redistributable files are updated. For affected games, you should see a couple update slowly and then the rest will just use the shared files.
-
@Parody
In other words, Valve would like to kindly remind you that they have heard (in passing, perhaps) of Metro Exodus suddenly up and leaving, and would like to remain the sole proprietors of your games' money, and are now changing some stuff around for no technically valid reason other than to appear to be doing something to that effect.
-
@Tsaukpaetra fixed it. The instructions on the linked help page have you download a file that's named wrong and won't install as-is (because heaven forbid they wrap it with a manifest!).
I now see what's going on with the game when you tilt your head. It's fucking bizarre, because it's not being twisted like that according to the mirror display...

The responses I've seen for that are pretty -worthy. Here's mine:
Status: Not caring about which game store(s) this game will appear on at launch; plans change, folks. Also not caring that the seventh game store in my collection pays for exclusives and doesn't have a bunch of features I don't use on Steam. Don't like it? Don't buy anything from that store. I haven't. I did give them an email address for Subnautica and some other games, which is a pretty good deal in my opinion.
I wonder how many more Reddit threads ranting about the Epic Store have started since I began writing this....
-
@Parody What I'd like to see is publishers passing on the markup to the prices in the store. I.e. if Steam takes 20€ and Epic takes only 10€ then the Steam Store should show a price 10€ higher.
That way I don't have to install yet another updater/DRM/whateverIdon'tcaremakeitstop crap of background program cluttering up my taskbar.

Well, I started one right here. I do feel I overreacted severely. I still think Epic Store is patently shit, because it fucking is so, but that's as far as I should want to care about it.

I'd posit that a question which only has a stupid answer can be legitimately labelled as such.

Well, I can't go into too much detail, so I'm going to use a front page style analogy (i.e. almost completely different from the original):
Our software is processing certain data, say rows in an Excel sheet.
: Processing this data set takes very long, normally it's much faster. Make it faster!
: Send me the data, I'll have a look what could be the cause.
:
: Okay, I see. Your data set is very large, it contains 100 times as many rows as your previous one. This takes more time to process, then.
: Why is it larger? Why's the sky blue?
The fuck do I know, it's your data.

Status: Developing a nervous twitch.
I'm working on a very high energy system and it is resisting. The debug flow is to connect all the instrumentation and turn it on, at an indeterminate amount of time later something will explode and rain bits of expensive semiconductor all over the room.
The EMP this thing produces is incredible, it was managing to induce a spike of over 6V at one end a trace bonded to ground through a 0.25 Ohm resistor.
I love working on things that startle you while you have to hold a probe inches away from nodes with lethal energies.
Edit: Strangely the little 8-bit microcontroller inside it seems to be working fine in this hellish environment, I expected spurious resets.

Status: -15 degrees. Nope nope nope.xls. Not going outside. I'm glad my work laptop is at home, because if I unplug my truck and take it out of the garage, and park it outside the office all day, the fuel tank's going to gel up and it's not moving until spring.

@mott555
At least we're allegedly due for Spring Preview this weekend

Status: It's actually so cold that my furnace can't keep up. It will not get above 72 degrees at the thermostat, and it's way colder than that at my desk by the windows. I have my ventless gas fireplace running, too.
I guess that's one of the dangers of having a large apartment that's a very long and narrow rectangle, with one of the long walls being an exterior wall with lots of windows.

That's a bit of a drive, and I'd be all out of Canadian diesel by the time I got back home.

Status: Had a level of snow at home this morning that could best be described as a Joke. Exactly one snowflake thick (on ground cold enough that it wasn't melting at all). Got to work, and found that there was an inch of snow here and it was all melting and horrible.
Also, I'm going through our Python code and making it much more difficult for users to poke fingers around inside our stuff where they shouldn't. Finding some classic cases where we are overriding a method just to internally call the superclass implementation, and nothing more. Why bother!?

It's nice when they pass on those discounts, and apparently that happened with Metro Exodus: the Steam price was $60, the Epic price is $50. I don't generally buy games on release, though, so it's not a huge deal to me. (Come back in a year and you can get the bug-fixed version for $20 or less. :)

I quit the store apps when I'm done playing, so at most one is running and only while I play.

I haven't made it that far in a while. <ring>Nope.<next day><ring> Nope...<Friday><ring>Nope, done.

@dcon Yeah, I was hoping for that, too. Even so, it's better than the old days of spending the entire week sitting in the jury room waiting.
Also it's now a web page that's updated 3 times a day. Which I forgot to refresh because the browser crashed, and when I restarted it, the jury instructions page was buried under a ton of other stuff. When I did refresh it, I discovered I was supposed to be in court in -3 minutes, and I hadn't eaten lunch yet.
