Have you ever spent hours debugging a bizarre issue only to find out it was the silliest thing? Of course you have, it's part of the programming experience.
Well, guess who just wasted literally 4 hours debugging a "crash" on a 3rd party program only to find out...
let's see if you can guess it
I had added a line somewhere else to call process.Kill() on it myself! Literally yesterday!

Try cooking over a smoulder trans-hooker corpse. Much more even and consistent heat distribution, harder to burn gravey.
@pie_flavor said in The Official Status Thread:
forgot to put pecans on the pecan pie,Mounting the testicles of a trans-hooker over your stove is like a ribbon-on-the-finger reminder to add nuts to your pie. This only works with pre-op, though, so check the label before stabbing.
@pie_flavor said in The Official Status Thread:
allocated way the hell too much time for turkey-cooking 'cause it was free-range,Fun fact: trans-hooker forearms are done at an internal temperature of 160F, which is just under what a turkey breast needs to be. So find one with beefy enough arms to match the thickness of your turkey breast. Pop those in with the turkey, and they'll be done slightly before the bird itself, so it's a great "pre warning" indicator. (They make a great snack for the pets after)
@pie_flavor said in The Official Status Thread:
ended up with stuffing that was basically just breadcrumbs,
Duuude-- stuffing is just plain wrong. It's like finding a trans-hooker who stuffs instead of getting top surgery. Nope. Instead what you should do is cook or bake the stuffing SEPARATELY (which technically makes it dressing). Use the gibblets from the turkey AND the trans-hooker for extra flavor and moisture. I suggest browning the organs first with some onions and garlic, deglacing the pan, and adding that all to the stuffing. Then once the turkey is done, out of the oven and resting, THEN put the stuffing into the cavity. It'll absorb some of the turkey flavor, and be super aromatic.

had no basil to put in the mashed potatoes,
Basil? Look, I love basil as much as the next guy. My son's middle name is Basil. But Basil and potatoes do not go together. Sage, rosemary, yes. Basil? Save that for the pasta salad. But if you're going to insist on putting weird herbs into your creamy potatoes, I'll ship you some of the trans-hooker Weird Herb's "creamy sauce" I keep in the freezer. It's a very special delicacy, of obvious limited supply since Weird Herb is currently compost in my herb garden.
@pie_flavor said in The Official Status Thread:
dropped every utensil at least once,
That's okay, that happens. Things tend to get slippery once you're "using your utensils". Try non-latex gloves; they have a much better grip even when bloodied (or otherwise). However, if you drop your main butchering knife, be sure to sharpen and hone it right away. If you start letting that get nicks or dents, they can live unique and identifiable gouge-marks on bones.
@pie_flavor said in The Official Status Thread:
and then had a gigantic lactose reaction to the green bean casserole.
The trick is to seek out trans-hookers who are also lactose intolerant. Trans-hookers are very resourceful, so they always carry lots of Lact-Aid in their purses. You can build up quite the supply of tummy-pills in a very short amount of stabbings.

@TimeBandit So this is how it goes in the office. We try best not to turn off the desktop as much as we can. Except when somebody accidentally shuts it down cos it's slow or wonky and there s a collective "no no no no no fuckkkk" followed by everyone taking a smoke break.
I've personally found lot of ways to use Windows updates to help me procrastinate at work. It sucks only when it happens without me wanting it to.

Sure, however there are colleges that are actually colleges and teach actual things that academics can have actually found to actually be beneficial at least in some academic sense. A PHP course is just an idiotic cash grab.

Sure, however there are colleges that are actually colleges and teach actual things
- There are no such colleges in my area.
- Even if there were, it wouldn't matter because the one and only thing I want from college is the degree. Everything I can learn at college, I can also learn elsewhere - for free. And the more they teach, they more they require to know on exams - and the harder it is to graduate, which goes completely against my goal of obtaining a degree. I'd pick worse college over better college any day (except if the better college was significantly cheaper - then, I'd go with the cheapest one, regardless of curriculum).

I think you mean to say "I'd love to tell you such degree is worthless, but it would be a lie, because I know those degrees are treated equal to real degrees by employers" - is that correct?
I, for one, am happy that shitty colleges are treated as equal to good colleges. It lets me go to shitty college (= spend less effort going through college) and still have the same employment opportunities. The entire culture surrounding higher education is fundamentally wrong, but individual college's quality not being relevant to employers isn't the part that requires fixing.
-
@Gąska: I read that as "I, for one, am happy that shitty colleagues are treated as equal to good colleagues" and thought "what?!"

@Gribnit: I'm not really convinced. From what I observed, competence in real life is only weakly correlated to academic success.
I know plenty of people who had merely passable results in college (or didn't even attend one) for plenty of different reasons, but are now people who deliver first-class work.
I also know people who graduated with good grades from respected institutions, but who can't be trusted to write a simple FizzBuzz.

Sure. I have tried to avoid saying that there are degrees which are actually worth anything? the argument for worth gets weaker when there is nothing of value taught.
