There's this meme among web developers that W3Schools is like a horrible satan site where all the information is wrong and if you go there and read an article your brain explodes or something.
I don't have it figured out myself.

No. It uses
printf
to splat together queries. They used to be direct SQL strings, but I replaced almost all of them with stored procs.

What decade is this game for? Is it like a retro-90s look, so you're doing the retro-90s data access?

Would you be surprised if I told you that same developer made everything
static

That's what's keeping it neutral.
I don't really have anything against ponies, but there's the stereotype to consider...

In other news, sounds like my car is being declared a total loss, which I didn't expect, but my coworker blames it on the cost of repairs in my area; he took a look at one photo, rattled off a list of things that would need to be done, and said it would easily run into five figures. I barely paid five figures for it in the first place, so I guess that makes sense.
It's crunch time at work, though, and the end of the semester so a car search and car financing are exactly what I did not need added to my plate right now.
Edit: Everyone I've talked to has assured me that insurance is going to give me too little money to compensate the loss; I'm going to try not to get screwed, but I also don't want the process to be stressful. I find monetary value in that. So I suppose I'll see how it goes.

@heterodox If you want, shoot me the pictures and I'll give you an opinion.

Granted this machine also has Visual Studio 2015 installed, so that might have provided an accidental crutch.

I started Month 2 this week, and it didn't hurt as bad. Reason for that is, I was just so completely exhausted that my legs didn't start hurting until a good ten minutes later. Forty minutes straight of the craziest shit you've ever seen. I don't know if I can keep this up without injuring myself; my knees already persistently hurt throughout the day.
On the plus side, there's definitely improvement. By the end of this I may actually be able to do a whole push-up.

Status: There is a guy doing a fire inspection round, having blueprints of the building that are 30 years out of date. Which is impressive, seeing as we've only been here for 15 years. He is now trying to figure what the mystery room next to the toilets/rest area on my floor is, as none of our keys work for that door. "My blueprints say it's an archive, but I assume it's not anymore?"
I wonder what secrets that room has. Must be some dark secrets hidden inside if nobody got a key for it!

I'm sure it's just the NSA's local listening post. Nothing to be alarmed about, move right along, comrade!

And for some additional status, my colleagues came back from an errand with a new toy for me. A brand new Dell server we're getting to loan for unspecified time to see if it's something that will help us, with the option to purchase it for cheap if it is. I think it will be useful, as we do need a new server for virtualisation and web servers and other purposes and I was thinking if I'd have to place a request for one anyway. The 10-year old HP ProLiant DL360 G5s we have aren't that exciting to be perfectly honest...

@timebandit It lulls you into a false sense of security by being mostly just C# with differeny syntax, then it bends over backwards to fuck you up while smiling innocently and saying "what, wasn't that what you wanted? I thought that was what you wanted"

Me neither. The site:
- Just fucking works
- Has the bare minimum of UI cruft and JS bullshit
- Is well organized
- Has working examples on everything
- Has a tool where you can futz around with examples of just about everything IN THE BROWSER ('try it yourself')
- Hasn't shuffled their URLs for no reason, so links to them still work
- Homepage is 9.1k and loads in 67ms
- No ads
- Only tracker is for Google Analytics, instead of 30042 different trackers
- No login required, so no PII leaked
- Not Internet POintzzz based
- Correct information

Ah yes, I forgot that the 13th day of the month just happened recently.
The day I like to call "that dumb fucking hand-rolled date handler you cobbled together stops working, because you didn't think of localization and that no everyone uses your wonky time format, and of course it worked on your machine and maybe even during QA that happened during the first 12 days of the month, but you didn't use a proper DateTime library like I told you to and now you're paying the price Day".

And now VB.Net-- VB's offspring-- is just about 18 years old.

10 different classes for different products. Each of them has an effective date. In 9 of them it's a
Date?
. In the 10th it's a string in the formatYYYYMMdd
If this was C#, my copypasta of
dateParameter = thing.effectiveDate
would have errored there. Since it's VB it just carried on until it realised that it doesn't know how to translate 20180418 into a date

Yep, I'm aware.
At the same time even KBB says "Mayyybe $2k. Mayyybe." So there's not too much to fight for. I'm expecting them to offer somewhere around $1k and we can probably meet in the middle.Edit: Was looking at the wrong thing in KBB.

@tsaukpaetra I've had builds fail due to a lost connection during the cleanup phase of the execution (after all the commands I wrote finish running and the build server is just deleting the temp directory)

@lorne-kates Ha. When I played that game recently the check was already in the mail before they even called me to say what was up.
