Find an unsweetened peanut butter and compare it side by side with something like Jif.
I don't like peanut butter, but it's probably nicer than Jif.

In Chemistry we don't make a distinction between carbohydrates, sugar and saccharides.
Chemistry in English avoids the term “sugar” any time it wants to be exact.

Feeling like I'm on the edge of sickness.
WebMD suggests the following diagnoses in order:
Celiac Disease
Influenza
Cancer (more properly, a syndrome caused by cancer)Well, the 'flu is the most likely of the three if it is coming on now. This season's virus is nastier than normal, a bit more serious and more contagious, so that pushes up the probability there. (Celiac disease is less likely unless you've been suffering from some of the symptoms for quite a while. Pray it's not cancer.)

@tsaukpaetra I think I follow you on the
((uint32)0xFF << (uint8)GateDirection)
part, but what's!
do? If it's a logical not operation, then I'd expect it to take the nonzero (true) argument you're giving it and return false (zero), which is what you're seeing.Does removing the
(!
and the corresponding)
produce the expected output?I'm no longer at the office to try, but I bet it will do almost as I want, except all the bits will be inverted from what I want. Essentially I want to keep only the parts that aren't in the shifted range.
I think you'll find that bitwise complementation is the
~
operator, and logical (boolean) inversion is!
. So I'm pretty sure~
would do what you want.Beat me to it. I'm not sure what language that is, but
~
is the appropriate operator in all the languages I use at least somewhat regularly. It's the bitwise-negation operator in all the C-derived languages (including C++, Java and C#) and quite a few others besides.

Certainly, it's an ambiguous term and I for myself wouldn't call cellulose a sugar. But it wouldn't be wrong, either ;)

Eating it sideways would make it a sandwich, but nobody does that, so it's not.
I think we need to define our terms. My understanding is that "sideways" is like this:
Bun on top and bottom, opening facing to the side. This would qualify as a sandwich, and is (IME) the common way to eat a hot dog.But there's also this:
with the opening facing up, and the bun on either side. Do people eat them this way (i.e. non-sandwich style)?Always. Otherwise stuff falls out. (onions, relish, whatever)

@tsaukpaetra The print came loose from the printbed sometime over the night. What sucks is it looks like it failed at about 90% completion. It might still be mostly usable if I clear all the spaghetti off the top, it was just a tray to hold some model paint bottles.

@dcon I did leave as soon as the smoke tests were completed, since I just about had time to catch my train. I have coworkers who stay later than I do so was working on the presumption that if anything went wrong I would know about it

I are disappoint. I'm also still not entirely sure which day it was, because by the time I got to the office, there was nothing left. Nothing.
I know the feeling. I left at 11:45 for an appointment at the gym, came back at 12:45 and lunch was ALL gone; they didn't order enough. Sadness. :(

It all worked out as any normal person would expect...I feel nearly dead. Next time I'm just spending the money on a hotel.Edit: I also must be getting old, muscles I didn't know I have ache.

Yes, I have dogs. (thankfully, I've never had to deal with the consequences)If you don't have dogs (and there's a lot of stuff dogs are not allowed to eat) then it's great stuff. 40% less energy content, actively harmful to caries bacteria, same sweetness as table sugar with the same volume, no weird taste like other substitutes (e.g. Stevia).

I got this weird penguin email from Microsoft recently and it's freaking me out...

@scholrlea Yes every time you see a penguin, it MUST mean Lunix. That Disney app Club Penguin? All about Lunix. That movie Happy Feet? It's about Lunix. Those BBC documentaries about the south pole? Turns out they had to CGI in the penguins, because they aren't actual animals that actually exist and they wanted to talk about Lunix all the time.
You people are definitely having a sane and reasonable reaction to that ad and are not at all wack-a-doodle-crazy-muttering-at-a-street-light.
-
@blakeyrat My reaction was less that, than it was about the fact that Microsoft's marketing dept. didn't anticipate people making exactly that connection with regards to something that is a direct competitor of their products. Which I found hilariously inept on their part (though to be fair, I doubt that the ad designers responsible for this know about Tux in the first place, being, you know, advertisers rather than geeks).
It's as if Pepsi decided to use Santa Claus and polar bears in their ads, and didn't think people would connect it to Coca-Cola.
