I'm not sure what she's looking for but I'm certainly not it.
Pretty much the worst feeling ever.

if she began a train of thought, she'd follow it and it was a bit difficult to get a word in to give my perspective.
My wife used to be really bad about this. I talked to her about that, and she suggested I gently interrupt her when I want to say something, because that's how she and her friends talk to each other. So the next day I try interrupting her, only for her to get pissed at me and yell "WILL YOU LET ME FINISH!"

Microsoft is actually improving their updater.

@cartman82 It's been that way for at least a year though?

First time I see this thing. I think I am in the most conservative update loop.

Since the Craters' Pupdate, I believe

@rhywden That sucks, dude.
It's probably more painful at the time, but in the long run better to have a clean break like that rather than weeks of things deteriorating

Status: Been dealing with some client integrations to third-party shit all day. Two of them concurrently, and both of them are fucking incompetent. One has been going on for 7+ months now. (I really should write these up in the Lounge at some point) Kids are home from daycare today, wife is "working from home", I decide to make myself a drink.
"What are you doing?"
"It's been a rough day, I am going to have a drink."
"We have kindergarten orientation at 6:30, are you doing to be 'That dad'?"
"Honey, I was going to be 'That dad' before I even had kids."
"Yeah, fair enough."

found it.
Added a
Close
call to sockets that failed to connect. Because failing to connect apparently still keeps the handle around, just in case, I guess...
-
@tsaukpaetra Why would failing to connect close the socket?

@greybeard said in The Official Status Thread:

Because it was never opened? I don't know, I'm not a network engineer!
-
@tsaukpaetra It was opened when the code created it. Presumably in that
Get
call.

-
@tsaukpaetra I see a pointer going out of scope, not a Socket.

(apparently) hence the leak.
It's not my code, I just applied enough hammering to fix it. It's probably still wrong. But at least the server isn't bringing down the OS in a week just because pings are failing.

Well, if @Tsaukpaetra suddenly stops posting one day, we'll all know what happened...
What?!?! What happened??? I'm dying to know!
Background processing completed. I assume you were talking about the potential fire hazard from incendiary battery events. Rest assured this has not happened.
Also, shipment arrived!
Installation in progress...

Upgraded my internet, but in the process, I had to get one of those digital TV packages. The cable guy just finished installing their stupid decoder box (he was amazed my old ass TV only had those composite ports, needed to go back for the cables).
So now, in those rare times I want to see something on TV, I have to navigate my way through their upsell central and deal with their crappy software.
I wish I could have kept my analogue TV. So simple and easy, perfectly suited for my minimal TV needs.

I have a lovely TV. New enough to be 1080p flatscreen and have HDMI inputs, old enough to still have all the old connectors (component, SCART, composite) and no smart functionality. You feed it a video signal and it displays it, plain and simple.
In other news, preparing for a weekend at my old job with only temp workers (that's me included) around. And as I am the most senior temp worker I guess that means I will be chief responsible too. What fun.

Cherish that TV and hope that it doesn't die before TV as a concept dies.

I had to manually unplug it and plug it back in.
Then it wanted to upgrade.
Reminds me of Windows 10, only without any of the good sides.

Status: We have a thing we used to work on, but now a team in India is doing it, with us answering questions when they come up.
Basically they hook into a legacy system that transforms data for us, which uses XML to produce a terrifying proprietary format.
Unfortunately, this legacy system does not always create the correct output for the other legacy system that consumes it, because the consumer has a larger team and moves along faster. The transformer has important logic that we don't want to have to figure out and reimplement, so we built a system that can directly modify the output of the transformer once it's complete with extra things we need done.
So this team has finally hit a case where the transformer is not transforming what we expect, which means they need to do the logic themselves. And it looks like we're going to get emails asking us to 'advise them' until someone gets fed up and implements it for them.
Again.
