Figured that would probably work. I deliberately left it broken. Because.

marital aids
first raid that as Martial Arts
That term was posted in another thread not long ago. I remember reading it as "martial aids" (think swords, guns, etc.) and thinking I'd rather have marital aids, especially since IIRC the context at the time was having one shoved up one's bum.

Status: Wondering how long before we'll be browsing the Web with a Unity browser, running on a Unity OS with a Unity window manager, hosted on a Unity VM, itself running on a Unity OS. And the websites will be written with Unity, with scripting by Unity and styling by Unity.
-
@RaceProUK That'll happen after
GoogleAlphabet, Amazon, Microsoft and Apple merge to form a new company called Unity.

Status: There are currently 2 items in my Windows Defender quarantine folder:
- a thing that I wrote
- A copy of the same thing, taken from Windows Defender's quarantine folder
All of the things Windows Defender has called "OH NO WE FOUND MALWARE" have been from one of two categories:
- Programs I wrote in Go (looks like Microsoft doesn't like competition, eh?).
- Installers for Inedo software (it was something about a JavaScript virus last time, which is amazing since Inedo software is written in C# and JavaScript runs in a sandboxed web browser).
When Windows Defender is not alerting to the surprising fact that I created a virus, it's using 75% of my disk read/write speed at any given time.

@ben_lubar
And yet, it's still two orders of magnitude better than any other (Windows 10) anti-virus solution out there.

Have a complicated concurrency problem that's working perfectly when I have a printf in a certain debugging spot but breaks down entirely when I remove the printf (and resulting syscall) from the program. Clearly something's not atomic with my concurrency implementation that should be. Yet it's passing all my other tests. Shit.
Concurrency implementation was fine; problem solution was not. As happens so many times, spent a day away from it, then while procrastinating on something else, wrote a new implementation from scratch which worked perfectly. I swear our hindbrains work better on problems than our forebrains.

Yeah, your point? :P
-
@HardwareGeek His version of Defender has developed sentience and an
irrational hatred of Google's language?
-
@RaceProUK thankfully, my installation is OK with Mozilla...

Status: Halfway through ripping apart the targeting system for our Voip plugin. Mostly making it so it's actually plugin-like and not just pretends (requiring voip-targeting-specific stuff to be implemented in the game logic).
For tomorrow's task: figuring out what to do in order to assign a
AActor*
to anAActor
in a cromulent manner (or rewriting the component to accept the fricking pointer in the first place)...Ended up not needing to do that, since I could just use the struct's member in the first place . Sometimes you just need to sleep on things to discover just how retarded you were being.
Anyways, targeting system is now working again, tomorrow we get the voice playback happening!
After much swearing and entering I got the voice playback working again (note that at no time did I say voice recording, that apparently never stopped working because you don't need to know who you are in order to transmit, which makes sense).
So, essentially were a step forward from where we were two weeks ago: now the game server is authoritative on who's nearby, and it's slightly less likely for you to miss updates on who's nearby.
Of course, step 1.5 of this 3-step process is implementing a "hey I just logged in, who's nearby?" command or state for the server so if that fails we can have a single update for that in case everyone but you happens to be logged out of the voice service.

Sorry, it was the cleanest way I felt I could sync back multiple potentially-different items back into the inventory and update the quantity if duplicated (or insert new record if not).
Please forgive me?

What? I replied to you over in the bad ideas thread. Nobody's angry and/or drunk. At least not in this dick used for sleeping.

@Onyx Now I'm curious.

@aliceif I basically told a mostly true (works in like 90% of the cases) language joke od Discord about a way you to make any noun into a rude phrase in Croatian and everyone will still understand it.
Now I'm getting mention spammed from all over the forum by him attempting jokes in that manner.
I wouldn't mind, but this is after he tried to teach me lojban!

I've encountered one situation where cursors were the best solution. It involved calculating a running total that periodically reset. Quirky update, triangle joins and other weird methods were all slower and more convoluted

status Taxes done and submitted. 10 minutes later, confirmation from the US that it was accepted. 40 minutes later, confirmation from the state. Damn, that was faster than expected! (The software said 4-8 hours for Fed, several days for state.) I'll bet if I waited until Apr15, it would have taken that long... (Now, when does the state money show up in my account... I have to pay the feds.)
-
@dcon Knowing the way stuff like this works, the state money will arrive the day after you need to pay the feds :P

@RaceProUK My accountant fucked up (I now have free accountancy til the end of the year), because she didn't make sure my VAT was submitted electronically.
I paid HMRC the correct amount. However I had a letter said "you haven't paid" and a ~£600 penalty.
I paid the fine and gave my accountants hell.
2 weeks ago I got the money paid back into my account by HMRC.

Dirt Cheap PCMCIA card is coming shortly, I checked it has the right driver.
Amiga DOS is pretty decent to use.

No matter how many times I increment this variable, printf("%d", variable) prints 0.
(I can't believe there was never a country song written with that premise.)
I think C has gone out to lunch.

Looking at Amiga HD graphics make you appreciate proper HD graphics. My eyes don't hurt and I am not forced to wear my "I am really fucking tired and the screen is looking blurry and I still have work" glasses.

That's third one.
The ones I know is the DI one and the fucking 3D framework that prevents me from finding anything useful about the DI one on Google. I guess there's also the Ubuntu thing, but luckily Google hates that one as much as I do.
