@TimeBandit Correct. I stopped publicly counting down, though, because there were complaints.
Bug report:
the @CarrieVS subsystem has stopped outputting current status
Suggested remediation
The @CarrieVS subsystem should output current status at a regular intervals
-
@accalia Suggested interval: 2 days
;)

Status
Not impressed with SOMEONE's like notifications as the binge through the likes thread.
-
@accalia Try this userscript:
// ==UserScript== // @name Clear Like Thread Notifications // @match https://what.thedailywtf.com/* // @grant none // ==/UserScript== (function() { 'use strict'; socket.on('event:new_notification', function (n) { if (/^upvote/.test(n.nid) && n.topicTitle == "The Official Likes Topic") { console.log("Ignoring:", n); socket.emit('notifications.markRead', n.nid, e => e ? console.log(e) : 0); } }); })();

D'OH! of course javascript is the solution!

@RaceProUK said in The Official Status Thread:
Status: Wondering why it's important for browsers to prevent me knowing the height of an iframe's contents just because the iframe source is from a different domain.
Because too many people did too many shitty things with cross-domain iframes to ever allow any information to leak out ever again.
Consider:
<div id='OnlyShowIfUserIsLoggedOut' style='height:12px;'>Log in fuckhead.</div> <div id='ShowIfUserIsLoggedIn'> <p class='yo' style='height:200px'>Yo yo yo fuckfaaaaace!</p> </div>
Now consider:
<script type='text/javascript'> var ifr = MakeIframeTo("www.example.com/fuckface"); if(ifr.body.height > 12) { DoEvilThing(); } </scrip>
Any information about the page is a potential information leak. In this case it exposes if the current user is a member of fuckface.com or not. That can be used for phishing attacks, evil analytic tracking, etc.

It's both the problem and the solution.

have you tried rebooting it / breaking her wrist again?
-
@accalia Another solution is to change the setting in your profile.
Admittedly, that also uses JavaScript.

Yuck.
Topics have IDs for a reason.
-
@PleegWat said in The Official Status Thread:
@sloosecannon Are you sure it's an invalid code, not just an undocumented one?
Fairly. It's
CURLE_OBSOLETE24
, which used to beCURLE_MALFORMAT_USER
. Which makes no sense at all.

kind of transcoding are you doing?

CURLE_OBSOLETE24
It means CURL thought Live Another Day and Legacy were uneeded tack-ons to a series past it's prime, that should have left well enough alone after Season 8.
-
@Lorne-Kates Also, while research that joke, I discovered that Wikipedia editors need to be more aware of the grammar they are using:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/24_(TV_series)#Feature_film_development
... director Tony Scott would pitch an [movie script] idea to Sutherland, an involvement ending with Scott's death in August 2012.
-
@Lorne-Kates That really does make it sound like Kiefer Sutherland killed Tony Scott.

Yuck.
Topics have IDs for a reason.
So they do. But the object being handled by that javascript doesn't include the topic ID, so you work with what is available.
Sample
``` { bodyLong:"checking something ...
↵" bodyShort:"[[notifications:upvoted_your_post_in, RaceProUK, The Official Likes Topic]]" datetime:1488831648095 from:289 importance:5 mergeId:"notifications:upvoted_your_post_in|1108049" nid:"upvote:post:1108049:uid:289" path:"/post/1108049" pid:"1108049" topicTitle:"The Official Likes Topic" } ```
-
@abarker said in The Official Status Thread:
-
@RaceProUK It doesn't really need to. It needs the post ID, which it has.
Good to know the NodeBB devs are still coding by that wonderful old philosophy of "Let's have wildly different versions of a data construct all over the place with no fucking rhyme or reason for it".
"I put a topic's identifier in the topic loaded. I wonder if I should also include that primary key in other places like
event:new_notification
."
That would be wooooooooooork. Don't dooooooooo it.
Baaaaaaaaaan anyone who aaaaaaaaaaaaaaasks.
Why are you guys talking like ghosts?
-
@Lorne-Kates The notification relates to a post, and it includes the post id. It includes all of the information the notification needs.
It also, by design or by accident, handles the "post got moved to a different topic" scenario better than it would if the topic ID was unnecessarily included.
-
@abarker I knew there must be a good reason why I did that.
According to the command, converting an MP4 file to an mpeg2 file.
-
@Tsaukpaetra is it in 1080K by any chance?I haven't seen
avconvffmpeg perform so slowly...
@Tsaukpaetra Well, if they were all in one process, chrome would explode. This way you'll just swap to death.
-
@Lorne-Kates said in The Official Status Thread:
Probably trying to reduce the size of the messages to reduce bandwidth usage. Chiselling is occasionally necessary…
@Jaloopa said in The Official Status Thread:
@RaceProUK the case was thrown out because they lost the evidence.
Where's the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?
"How do you intend to handle delays in the completion of your project?"
Answer: since I have about 2x as much time as I need, I guess it will just take a bit longer.
Not sure if that counts as "having a plan", lol.
My solution: Play it fullscreen and screen record.
That one encodes at ~5x speed.
Yeah you really should vacuum
-
@loopback0 I have to make a round trip to get information about whether I care about the notification because it's in a topic I've earmarked as a game. It's annoying.
Update: Hmm... this is actually getting serious now. The management portal is telling me almost all of our sites and deployment slots have been deleted, yet the sites themselves still work fine
WtfFramework cooties. Why does this fucking thing only break when I'm sleeping?
-
@RaceProUK Are you sure you are in the correct management portal? I have several client portals linked to my account and I was wondering where half my web apps were and I was signed into the wrong portal.
