Fair enough?
This may have already been pointed out in one of the 200+ posts I haven't read yet, but no. You defined a die reasonably well, but did not describe its fairness at all. To be fair, the distribution of random numbers generated by the die must be uniform over the range of possible values.

Have a complicated concurrency problem that's working perfectly when I have a printf in a certain debugging spot but breaks down entirely when I remove the printf (and resulting syscall) from the program. Clearly something's not atomic with my concurrency implementation that should be. Yet it's passing all my other tests. Shit.

Judging by the price and the general plastickyness, I doubt it's sophisticated enough to even store that malware.

That's easy. Leave the printf in.

I thought that was covered under "uniform density and shape".

That's definitely not enough to justify a die's "fairness" imo...

The js sip phone has being kicked to the back burner for the moment. However I'm currently being tasked with writing a graph representation of the model generated from our eclipse tool. This is being done in js as part of our new cloud strategy. I can't help but feel I'm paving the way to be replaced by a cheaper web developer...

Well, it makes sense if it's an extra little embedded thing in a larger webapp. We're planning on adding that as well at some point. With some PBX solutions now supporting WebRTC by default, and SIP being a relatively simple protocol itself (on the client side, that is), it's not that horrible of an idea in itself.

The amount of cease-and-desist letters we got make me rather leery of torrenting stuff.
That's the nice thing when you live in a country where you are innocent until proven guilty.
If I ever receive one of those letters, I already know what answer I will send them. There is 4 people living at this address. Until they can prove who did the torrenting, they can go fuck themselves. And if they send me another, I will forward it to my lawyer and the police because I will consider this harassment.
I dare say that in pretty much any country the judge at court will laugh himself silly if you tell him that you ignored a cease-and-desist because you're "innocent until proven guilty". I also dare say that the police will think you a dumbass while your lawyer will happily take your money.
-
@Rhywden Any judge who laughs at someone who recognises the most basic rights any decent legal system is built on is not fit to be a judge.

He will be laughing at his over-simplistic views of how to react to a cease-and-desist. Hint: Ignoring it will bring you into a world of pain.
You have the choice of either complying or bringing a lawyer into it from the get-go. His suggestion is just silly.

As far as I know, the only ways to make a die return non-random numbers involve creating it with irregularities in its density or shape.
Or, in the most simple case, a die that has some identifiers which occur on more faces of the die than other identifiers. The die that I described had a different identifier on each face; it goes without saying that if you put the same identifier on two sides, you'll double the likelihood of it landing on that.

static inline accum sink (accum x) { return (kbits (sinkbits (bitsk (x)))); }
That's just one of the hundreds of functions in this code that are almost identical (they bodge down to compiler intrinsics in slightly different ways for a vast number of type variants).
-
@dkf I'd actually rather have that on one line instead of the displayed two if there's dozens of near-identical functions.

I just watched an old IT joke happen IRL. Project is late, PHB asked us to have 2 status meetings/day instead of one. To be able to solve problems faster!
In his defense, the only way that seems to work with the other team to maintain focus on our project is constant reminders. They seem to treat work as a stack instead of a queue and ignore priority.

Maybe? Does being warmed up increase the pleasure?
Or perhaps the sand there is finer grain? Honestly though I think the real trick would be to find sand that wasn't so sharp and scratchy, that's probably the biggest problem...

I've tried responding, really, but the asshole that filed the claim just left Microsoft's headquarters address as the only method of contact. I wrote Microsoft as well, haven't received anything back. If I do I fully expect it to be along the lines of "we've received your complaint and it has been forwarded to the necessary Department".
I've acted time and again, but it doesn't stop the issue!
So yeah, I'm going to ignore it until someone responds.
