@Arantor No and you called me racist, and I wasn't supposed to find that irritating. Now you know how it feels.

@lucas1 and I apologised. You, however, are following me around, dragging your shit into everything.
Fine. You win. Goodbye.

@mott555 Short-term fix:

The nightly builds
Speaking of:
See, we supposedly have a hacky distribution system (basically a Jenkins build copies the latest to everyone's machines), but since they requested a "playtest" but the one built last night was wrong, everyone tried to do it simultaneously. Unfortunately, dozens of machines pulling 13 Gb of crap doesn't fare well over measly gigabit networking with Windows shares...
-
@dkf I'm working on
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
right now. But there are seven build slaves on a single overloaded VMware server so they're a bit slow to respond over Remote Desktop.

I'm currently avoiding them. For some reason, they expect me to diagnose and explain why our site's internet went out for a few minutes in the middle of the night earlier this week. Somehow they've forgotten that they're the ones with access to the networking equipment's logs, console, and configuration, not me.

In the short break between last day of classes and finals... decided to do a "WFH/unavailable by email" during this time so I could study but also multitask if management has to call (I reserved more time than I thought I'd need) because there are a number of things only I have the access to do.
Everything in the WORLD has fallen onto my plate during this "break" period. I fucking hate my life.
[Director comes to my desk to ask me something.]
Me: "Hey, can you tell I'm out of office? I'm not very good at it."
Director: "You're out of office?"
Me: "I've been out of office since Wednesday."
Director: "Ohhh..."
Me: "I think I see the problem."

Ended up extracting it on the jump server then copying over RDP, completed almost immediately whereas the Explorer extract was still stuck at 0 bytes/second with McShield chugging along at 25% CPU. Sigh.

Copying from F:\winx64_12102_client.zip\client to F:\client? That's called extracting.

@heterodox were you using the Windows native zip shell or something?
Yeah, don't do that. It's probably extracting the whole thing to %temp% or something idiotic like that, before it'll move all the files to wherever you wanted them.

Yes, and it normally works fine but I'm guessing that McAfee has some idiot Explorer hook and since it's a relatively new server it might not be on the latest patch.

@heterodox I'll bet the 7-Zip portable edition would work just fine though.

So in other words, any attempt to drink more than one at a time will fail miserably? You can drink the Java Stout in any bar!
Except it only works in 25% of the bars.
And only if you pour it from the tap into a bottle.
And then if you want it in another bar, from the bottle into a can.
And then if you want it in another bar, from a can into a mug.
And then if you want it in another bar, you're out of luck because they refuse to serve it.
Draught once, drink anywhere!

Not if you're drag-n-dropping, in that mode it definitely extracts to %temp%...
-
Status: Huh. Somehow Chromium seems to have fucked itself during a system update.
Well, so much for my go-to Linux box, I guess I'll have to nuke and pave (since downgrading packages that have been automatically updated seems mostly impossible in this distro)...
-
@Tsaukpaetra that is correct, but I'm more inclined to blame Windows for the dumb way it handles drag-and-drop.
The 7-Zip FAQ actually addresses this.
Why does drag-and-drop archive extraction from 7-Zip to Explorer use temp files?
7-Zip doesn't know folder path of drop target. Only Windows Explorer knows exact drop target. And Windows Explorer needs files (drag source) as decompressed files on disk. So 7-Zip extracts files from archive to temp folder and then 7-Zip notifies Windows Explorer about paths of these temp files. Then Windows Explorer copies these files to drop target folder.
To avoid temp file usage, you can use Extract command of 7-Zip or drag-and-drop from 7-Zip to 7-Zip.

Not allowed.
-
@anotherusername said in The Official Status Thread:

The reason for that is you could be dragging to a WebDAV folder, or any other number of shell extension points someone's installed that aren't really folders natively. 7-Zip could handle the common case though if it really wanted to. :/

It's easier to review 8 lines of changed code than hundreds of changed lines of code mixed together for different features.
All the stuff I put in those branches were from when we were in a hurry to release 1.20 and we just ended up throwing all the new features in a pile.
git add -p
is wonderful.

Status: Rediscovered one of my earlier attempts at game programming, a game called Domination! (Not my name for it, that was the actual name of it).
It's an adaptation of a board game:

I think it's pretty fun, but since I hadn't made any kind of AI it does require another player minimum,,,
