git gone
We can but dream.
Disclaimer: I have never actually used Git. Rational Clearcase is by far the worst source control I've had the misfortune of using, and I've never touched a command line for source control

@Arantor I have had more fuck ups because the IDE didn't work with git properly. At least on the commandline the fuck ups are my own and not some shitty bug with IDE piping commands to git

One of the people higher up, in a discussion of Microsoft and Azure, mentioned that he used to be a dev, and made some interesting points as a large group of us were listening. He seemed very bandwagony. He tried to give people the impression that nosql is superior to sql, because it parallelizes better. When given the chance, I made sure to point out that you have to actually find out which is appropriate before you decide on one or the other, which seemed to stun him for a moment.
Then, on the next day, he was talking with someone about VSTS, and mentioned that if that team was using Git, our team could easily make some changes and then submit them to him for review. I pointed out that, no, that isn't an advantage Git has, because TFS, which they use, supports that situation flawlessly, and that furthermore, TFS preicesely fits our usage scenario.
He didn't like that, and kept saying that Git is better because <thing TFS can do just as well>, and that he puts his entire filesystem in Git.
I don't have much patience for people who can't seem to analyse a situation and use what fits best, rather than going with whatever someone convinced them will solve all their problems years ago. I get that change can be hard, but that has nothing to do with my resistance to changing our whole company to Git - that comes from experience using it and talking to people who have.
I hate bandwagons.

Status: Just tried to buy a stamp. The post office has this site where you can buy stamps online, print them out yourself and them attach them to the letter. I did that yesterday for a stamp worth 1.45€ and paid for it using my credit card. Other methods of payment: Direct Debit, an online wire transfer, PayPal and some kind of prepaid wallet thingie.
Today I wanted to buy another stamp worth 0.70€. The only payment option listed: The prepaid wallet. No notice anywhere as to why.
So I contacted the guys via Facebook (because on FB they actually replied within minutes).
Their first answer: "Well, we're blocking your credit card after you've used it twice within 24 hours."
My answer: "That's retarded. Also: I only got to use it once. And why can't I select other methods of payment besides the prepaid wallet?"
Their answer: "Yes, we upgraded our security and needed to comply to ... blah blah..."
My answer: "That's nice. And why don't you communicate that fact clearly and prominently somewhere?"
Their answer: "Well, you see, you have to go to this cellar (mind the broken steps), find the circuit breaker to switch on the light and open this cabinet labelled: 'Careful! Rabid leopard!"
My answer: "Never mind. I figured it out - you have to spend at least 1.00€ in order to get the other payment options. Every podunk pizza delivery service is able to prominently advertise a minimum spending limit..."
By the way, they also have a "If you're buying small fry regularly activate our aggregated invoice - then you'll only get one invoice per month for all purchases!" scheme.
It's still subject to that minimum limit, though.

In the short break between last day of classes and finals... decided to do a "WFH/unavailable by email" during this time so I could study but also multitask if management has to call (I reserved more time than I thought I'd need) because there are a number of things only I have the access to do.
Everything in the WORLD has fallen onto my plate during this "break" period. I fucking hate my life.

@Rhywden Addendum: Their website just logged me out because I wasn't "active for the last 10 minutes".
While I was actively browsing through my account data.
I think someone kind of misunderstood the difference between "time of last activity" and "time of last login".
-
@lucas1 that's nice for you.
-
@Rhywden Oh, and there's a checkbox "Hereby I accept the terms and conditions of this site".
The checkbox is greyed out and selected by default.

@Arantor When was it a comment about you?

Status: I've been using Git for 2 years day in and day out, and still can't remember what's the command for rolling back all non-added changes but leaving the added changes intact.
To make everything that's added not-added:
git reset HEAD -- .
To make everything that's not-added not-changed:
git checkout -- .

@lucas1 you replied to me, I replied to you that it was nice for you that you use the CLI.
AND YOU WONDER WHY WE ALL THINK YOU HAVE COMMUNICATION PROBLEMS.
-
@Arantor In no way your reply made sense, unless we were in a verbal conversation.

@Arantor said in The Official Status Thread:

Not all of us think he does.
Some are convinced
-
@lucas1 you reply to me, I reply to you, this s a two way exchange also known as a conversation. It's right there for anyone to see.
-
@Arantor Except you missed out the important part of what I said, you were replying to me like we were verbally discussing it.
-
@lucas1 is this not a fucking discussion? How is it everyone else manages to infer context from posts but not you?
-
@Arantor because everyone else thinks like you and I don't.
-
@lucas1 fucking hell you even accept that you think differently to the rest of us but you still can't accept that you communicate like shit with the rest of us?
-
@Arantor LOL you are thick as fuck aren't you.
-
@Arantor https://what.thedailywtf.com/topic/21178/more-fallout-from-brexit/577
So in this thread, I said exactly why I felt me and another forum member disagreed.
I even gave him a video of some fiction that perfectly stated what I meant for further clarity and I am a poor communicator.
OKKKAY THEN
-
@lucas1 yes, I am clearly too thick to be here.

"Is this a beatbox?" points to a wood block
"Does this come with instructions?"@Arantor * starts punching said "beatbox". *

Personally, I just use an IDE when dealing with git. I can't do everything, but I can avoid learning the git syntax…
I use both SmartGit and SourceTree. Tho my morning update usually is cmdline with fetch, stash, rebase, stash pop.

Ambiguous. All the invoices you had to pay? Or all invoices you put out have been paid to you? Or course, either way is good. One is just better than the other
-
@dcon The latter, most of my out going invoices are office 365 etc.

@sloosecannon One of the best bit about the UK your internet always works and it low cost.
Of course it does. Your government needs that infrastructure working to spy on you.
-
@Lorne-Kates They have no idea what the internet really is and I use a VPN since I watch more foreign things these days.
But unlike America I pay next to nothing for the internet. I get 70meg + for about £24. Then another £2 for the vpn.
-
@lucas1
For someone who lives in an urban area (population density 1000+ per square mile), that's pretty similar to the rates you can attain over here, too. $40/mo for somewhere in the 50-100Mbps (download) range is pretty normal in an urban setting. We just have an order of magnitude more land area where the population density is super low. And since there's fewer people per line-mile of infrastructure, the Internet "value per dollar" degrades accordingly in those areas.
-
@izzion Yes we have the same here in a way. I am very lucky living in the Forest to get the speeds I do, because BT was told by the Government they had to put fibre into these areas and not ASDL.
-
@mott555 Wowow it happened. Going to play this after work for sure!
