Perhaps not, but you can certainly break them!

It seems to have calmed down now.
But I literally couldn't do anything for a bit, and the only thing that was trying to launch (due to startup) was Discord and Slack (and Chrome's background-enabled apps like Hangouts).

Here's an idea: Stop quarantining the file you're unpacking to scan and unpacking it again! FFS!
Edit: And the retardation continues!
I downloaded the "offending" file on a Linux machine, stashed it on a shared drive, and scanned it manually with Windows Defender. Guess what? No virus!
Fuckers.

Is there a trans fat pokemon? I feel like by this point there should be at least one pokemon for each thing cereal is advertised to not contain.

Status: Just tried to buy a game on Steam. Credit Card was declined. Called the CC company: My credit card was deactivated for security reasons which they informed me about by SMS three days ago and also sent out a new card.
Neither the SMS nor the card had arrived here.
Oh, well, another payment method worked and they will re-send another card. No worries there.
Then it dawned on me: There are several subscriptions to services which run over said credit card (I don't use PayPal and sometimes there simply aren't any other easy options).
One of said services being Office365, the other being XBox Live Gold.
So I went to my account details on MS page, entered a new payment method and then tried to change the payment method for O365 through the helpful dropdown menu.
Which didn't show the new payment method, only the old (invalid) one and the option "Enter new payment method". The latter of which doesn't work because, and I quote: "Cannot add method. Have you already added this method?"
I think I'll get to yell at someone tomorrow.

Fun fact: the original study that this is based on (well the original study that the NYT article references) actually calls this entire 7-minute one circuit. It also recommends that people perform 2-3 circuits. So it's really more like a 20-minute workout.

I now have a file server restarting daily (during a transfer) due to failure of a Windows update (it keeps retrying). It should be noted that the failure's my fault; took the system to the bleeding/developer edge of the Insider Program to install Ubuntu then removed it from the Insider Program, and I'm pretty sure that borked it somehow.
Anyone know a good way to disable Windows Update entirely on a Windows 10 Pro machine with no access to the Internet?
-
@heterodox As long as you didn't clean the disc, you should always be able to revert back to the previous build.
Also, the UbuntuOnWindows subsystem is available for everyone since the Anniversary Update, no Insider build needed.

That may be worth trying, though I was just going to backup then reset which I know always works. Good to know about the second thing though; I didn't know that!
For now I've disabled the Windows Update service and we'll see how it goes.

Use the gpedit and disable updates via local group policy.

Status: New hardware shipped out to customer for approval last week.
It's not working. When the <thing> is above 255 it seems to go backwards.
255? Hmmm. Hello u8 overflow.Above 100 is out of the agreed range, but all the same it shouldn't ever spaz out when given data.
Best bit is the customer was desperate for product so they got 100 units for approval, I'll now have to reprogram and set up the damn things by hand again (pre-production so I can't use production workers and no test/prog jigs exist yet).
Edit:Oh for the love of... If I'm going to do an explicit cast to shut the compiler warning up I should cast to the right thing
//Convert the <thing> to a displayable string.
uitoa((u8)tempFloat, tempString);...
void uitoa(u16 input, u8 *outputString)

Status: Got CivV a while ago (most likely with a Steam code from the Game Gifting thread), but had not gotten around to playing it. Started playing some tutorials. Played tutorial 3 twice, but still haven't officially completed it, because bug.
For those not familiar, the objective of tutorial 3 is to learn to improve your cities by building roads, farms and mines, and incidentally to build other improvements (e.g., stables and granaries) and learn technologies (e.g., one must discover the wheel to unlock road-building) necessary to achieve those main objectives. Other things, such as combat or founding new cities, simply aren't available in the tutorial. (There is a way to found a single new city; one of the improvements you can build causes a single "founder unit," not otherwise available in the tutorial, to spawn.) It is possible to unlock things like sailing and navigation, but there is no option to build ships or harbors.
In tutorial 3, you start out playing as Roman emperor Augustus in, I forget exactly, but I think it's something like 300 BC β the connection between the game's timeline and real history is a bit flexible. The second time through the tutorial, I played for 978 turns, to the year 2289 AD, because raisins, still as a very, very elderly Augustus.
Bug(s): The same bug resulted in my quitting the tutorial without completing it both times. Various special buildings cause "Great People" (great scientists, artists, merchants, generals, etc.) to spawn, and in most cases the type of person is connected to the type of building (e.g., a university produces a Great Scientist). However, in one case the type of person is user-selectable, and the selection just doesn't work in the tutorial. The context-sensitive main game button becomes the "Choose Great Person" at that point, but clicking it doesn't actually do anything, and you can't move on from there.
Also, the second time, I found another bug, I think. The only remaining objective was building the required number of mines with the required level of productivity. I had more (6) than the required (4) number of mines, and AFAICT they all had more than the required productivity, so I should have completed the tutorial, but the game was only giving me credit for 2 of them. Maybe the tutorial was written to only consider mines in territory the designer thought you should have available in the tutorial, but I had at least that many mines in the "core" territory. I dunno.

I'm surprised you get much productive done even when you're not checked out, since it must be pretty hard to accomplish things with an out of support web browser. Heck, these days, you probably can't even play Candy Crush at all on FF22.
