Like, almost anyone else would have changed lanes long ago due to the "asswhole that was going too slow", but this guy, "nope! they're not going the speed limit. I'll show them!"

Never mind the speed limit. The police car was STOPPED (and so was the pulled over car). And had been stopped for a while (the office was writing ticket).

Is that in Holland? QUICK! Stick your finger in it!
-
@Lorne-Kates That's so blatant, I hope the driver of that car was in the middle of a heart attack. If it turns out to be a cellphone user, then I hope they get thrown in jail for that shit.
-
@Lorne-Kates Under UK law, that would be a guaranteed prosecution of the utter fuckwit; I imagine it'd be the same in the US and CA too
-
@El_Heffe Someone took the "Voltage equals water pressure and current equals flow rate" analogy a little too seriously.

Even if they had a medical emergency?
Either you're lying (very very very likely) or your country is a horrible dystopia.
-
@blakeyrat said in The Official Status Thread:

No, they'd not get prosecuted in that case.
-
@blakeyrat I didn't feel it necessary to spell out every single exception to the rule, as I assumed people would be smart enough to figure that part out themselves. Recent experience has taught me otherwise however.

Unpossible.

The chances of medical emergency are at about 0.05%.
The chances of fuckwit asshole cell phone shitty driver who should never have been given a driver's license = 100%. (There is a margin of error).
I swear to fuck, I'm going to get a dashcam and record my 20 minute drive into work-- just to show the (and I don't think I'm exaggerating) the 100 insane / dangerous drivers I encounter on that 10km stretch. Every fucking day.
Ontario put in laws recently that say you MUST slow down and pull over for any stopped emergency vehicle (including tow trucks). I believe it's a $2000 fine plus demerit points. I'm sure that'll be just the start of the charges for ramming a police car and sending a cop to the hospital. (Plus the driver, plus the driver of the stopped car). Dangerous / reckless driving clocks in around $10k plus license suspension. Handheld device use is $1k plus 3 demerit points. There's go to be enough demerit points to total 7-- which results in license suspension and mandatory retraining.
I'm sure there'll be jail time involved.

I have one, but I'm usually too lazy to bother getting such things off the camera and upload them.

Wait, Recently? I thought that was a long-standing one in my area. Actually, there's a big honking sign near one of the highway interchanges that pretty much reads "Slow down and pull over for emergency vehicles"...
-
Cop enforcement is terrible in my area. I'm pretty sure texting while driving is illegal, but they won't ticket you for it and so 118% of drivers are doing it. I don't know if they ticket you for anything. I bet you could go blasting the wrong way down Dodge Street at 95 mph while sideswiping everyone and dragging dead bodies roped to your bumper and the cops wouldn't even think about stopping you.
-
@Lorne-Kates I recommend the A118-C if you don't want to wait for the A119

Good, I won't need to ship untested crap that that barely passed the simplest case test.
Is R&D in all companies a total chaos like the ones I happened to work for?
We keep bullshiting partners and throwing stuff at the wall to see if anything stick, all the time.

Status: Just got an email from this lovely school I have been
commandeeredbeen asked to help out at.For the record, it's now nearly 10pm over here and this email reached me 10 minutes ago.
The email states:
I'm sorry, I didn't want to have to call you in for tomorrow but one of our teachers has become ill. I now need you to replace him in the gym with [class I've never seen before]
This was news to me on the grounds that I didn't even know that regular lessons wouldn't have happened tomorrow - the latest plan I have states that tomorrow is a regular school day.
And, of course, knowing this school, the pupils won't have a clue as to what they're supposed to be doing and I won't have a clue either.
First of all, I'm no sports teacher, secondly, I have no access to their teaching plans and thirdly, they never give their pupils nor the substitutes proper instructions. It's either that or instructions which takes the pupil all of 10 minutes with me trying to figure out how to occupy their minds in the following 80 minutes.

All the time. We call it A/B testing - so we have to implement it multiple ways and let the users choose. But, HEY!, we're agile.
-
@Rhywden Substitute gym teacher? Dodgeball!!!

@fbmac said in The Official Status Thread:

Most of the time, yes. It takes pretty extreme levels of regulation to stop people from working that way, so drug and chemicals companies make at least some pretence. There's also a lot of the same old dumb shit in universities, though the usual trick there is to publish the same work lots of times (probably with salami slices of extra material so the papers aren't totally identical, unless the author is both lazy and stupid).
The good stuff is the exception, not the rule.

It went from a recommendation to a "best effort" law to a "you must" law to "yes, always, even for tow truck" law.

Hmmh, you're right. And to give them added incentive, I have some large-ish steel balls (yes, yes, ) from Physics experiments for them to dodge.
Which reminds me: How am I supposed to get into the gym? We have coded keys and mine obviously doesn't include the gym.

Still wish it didn't happen.

@Lorne-Kates So the one time I was arrested (falsely, long story) while they were waiting for the tow truck, an ambulance passed by without moving over out slowing down. One cop was brand new and the other was apparently training him to be a giant dirtbag (I was also part of that training).
Quote: "If we weren't busy with this guy, we'd go give that ambulance a ticket for failure to yield, speeding, and then run a DOT inspection on the truck and give them grief about being overweight. Ambulances are always overweight . He should know better."

Just as an example, this was posted around (including from the official regional police Twitter account). Footage is from 12 second mark:

That's a car-- running a red light-- on the wrong side of the road-- in the MIDDLE LANE (between left turn lane and right hand lane) on the wrong side of the road-- in a school zone.
This is the sort of shit.
