Status:
Trying to guess what format a supplier wants the reply to their request to be. Docs say bare string, contact says HTML , and there is a SOAP schema too. Naturally, talking directly to their programmer is not an option. So make a change, deploy the modified dll, trigger a request, and see if they re-send it half an hour later to know if it worked. Repeat until one works.

Does deleting a user remove all of their access to private messages but not the private messages themselves? Server-side bots shouldn't even have mailboxes.
-
It would not surprise me if all discourse does is a series of
delete * from table where user_id=:banned_user
.

It looks that way. Which makes sense when you consider that there can be more than 2 participants in a PM topic. And that they're just topics anyways.

#ONCE AGAIN PEOPLE:
Ask my permission before editing my thread titles. If I wanted stupid emojis in them, I'd have put them there myself.
And once again, I BEG the admins of this site to do SOMETHING so that fewer people have the ability to fuck with thread titles. I don't care what Discourse says, I do not have the "level of trust" in these people to give them that ability.

I do what I want!

But they're no longer ~your~ thread titles they're the ~community's~
-
But they're no longer ~your~ thread titles they're the ~community's~
So you're saying, since the topic's not locked and he's not the only one in the topic, they don't belong to him?
Maybe he should just make a Sekret PM Kluhb and invite only those he wants to participate. Those that are invited can't change the topic title (because PMs are Different), and he'll be happy that nobody can do so, and only those he wants can even converse in the topic and not spam it off topic, thus alleviating the stress he experiences having to tell everyone to "fuck off".
....
Actually, this sounds like a good post for the Good Ideas thread....

Jameson works better, and you get to simultaneously stereotype the Irish as drunks without saying a word.

ONCE AGAIN PEOPLE:
Ask my permission before editing my thread titles.
Can I edit your thread titles?
-
He has made the very reasonable request that these major threads should keep their name in them. Not having Status in the title is kind of awful.
-
Can I edit your thread titles?
Definitely not if you're just adding a dumb emoji to it.
If you have an actually good reason, I'd need to decide on a case-by-case basis.
EDIT: how about this as a rule of thumb: if you have any doubt whatsoever, just don't fucking do it. Somehow the world kept spinning in the eras before forum software gave 80% of the forum the permissions to fuck with other people's posts.

major threads
So all of his threads should be marked as "Major" and get s CSS entry?
I think we're talking about two different things...
-
Definitely not if you're just adding a dumb emoji to it.
Well, that got me nowhere. I won't even bother to ask next time.
If you have an actually good reason, I'd need to decide on a case-by-case basis.
What's my incentive?

What's my incentive?
He doesn't call you an asshole. Isn't that good enough for you?

Maybe we could hook it in to a toaster that says, "This is a blakeythread. Editing the title will cause him to lose his feces. We are not saying not to do it, just beware that there will be complaining. Carry on."
-
What if I'm adding smart emoji to it
-
He doesn't call you an asshole. Isn't that good enough for you?
He will do that anyway. Trust me on this.
-
He will do that anyway. Trust me on this.
Indeed. But the probability will necessarily decrease.
Someone want to check the Probability Thread to see what the stats are?
-
Indeed. But the probability will necessarily decrease.
YMBNH, have you met @blakeyrat? You don't need to give him a reason to call you an asshole. He will anyway. The probability would not necessarily decrease.
-
Why wait? Do them in parallel and hope that (at least) one works.
-
The probability would not necessarily decrease.
Argue this in the Probability Thread. If he doesn't notice you, can he reliably call you out? Probably no!
-
Definitely not if you're just adding a dumb emoji to it.
If you have an actually good reason, I'd need to decide on a case-by-case basis.
What if I want to add an amusing limerick?

Yes.

Blakey has already channeled @raceprouk several times over the years.

Other than it being early afternoon here, yeah:

Anyone else experiencing discourse being slower than usual tonight?
I don't think that's possible

Good news: I had a phone interview yesterday that went well enough that they want a second interview.Bad news: This necessitated that I somewhat reluctantly create a Google+/Gmail account for myself. (I previously had an account that I use only for YouTube, but the name isn't my real name. The fact that I, for example, watch @blakeyrat play lame indie games isn't necessarily something I want connected with my real-life, and especially professional, identity.) The second interview is a two-hour video meeting using Google Hangouts, thus necessitating the Google+ account.
Additional less-than-great news: The interview is at 08:00 Monday morning.

Nonsense my good man. I spent the day looking at @aliceif's profile in hope of getting a seizure. Alas over heating hardware was all I could achieve.

Your hardware was not overheating from load. Your graphics card was trying to kill itself.

what's so bad about "502 Bad Gateway" ??

I hope you both experienced cooties now while I was loading it and waited for 2 minutes expecting something new and amazing. But it was just old and amazing.
If I knew it's still the same image I'd just be able to tell @DogsB that he has to bounce on his chair while looking at it without all that tedious waiting.

And once again, I BEG the admins of this site to do SOMETHING so that fewer people have the ability to fuck with thread titles. I don't care what Discourse says, I do not have the "level of trust" in these people to give them that ability.
As a non-admin, I have a question for you: what do you expect the admins to do? The way I see it, until we can switch forums, there are three options:
- Do nothing about the trust levels.
- Change the requirements for TL3.
- Basically the same as 2, but make the limits so high that you effectively eliminate TL3.
Here's the problem with options 2 and 3:
they would suddenly block people from the lounge for arbitrary reasons, something that you complained about loudly when it happened to you.
Notice that "change what TL3 are allowed to do" isn't an option, because Discourse doesn't let you do that.
-
Anyone else experiencing discourse being slower than usual tonight?
No, because it's only afternoon.
-

You're replying to it.
Here's the problem with options 2 and 3: they would suddenly block people from the lounge for arbitrary reasons, something that you complained about loudly when it happened to you.
Obviously I don't think you should suddenly and arbitrarily block people from the lounge.
Notice that "change what TL3 are allowed to do" isn't an option, because Discourse doesn't let you do that.
This is the first I've heard of that.
Look, I'm sorry that this is a REALLY SHITTY FORUM SOFTWARE and as you'll recall I've been against using it from literally the first nanosecond it was installed, but that's not my problem.
My problem is that people keep changing my shit without asking my permission first. That's the problem I want solved. I don't care how. Summon magical moon elephants. But that's the problem.
I'd be happy if I could just trust people to be considerate, but obviously I cannot, because this forum software has, using its robotic wisdom, decided a bunch of jackasses are "trustworthy".
-
That's the problem I want solved. I don't care how. Summon magical moon elephants. But that's the problem.
Careful there, you're starting to sound like our customers...

My problem is that people keep changing my shit without asking my permission first. That's the problem I want solved. I don't care how. Summon magical moon elephants. But that's the problem.
So, @ben_lubar, what are the odds of renaming NodeBB to Magical Moon Elephants?
-
Yeah yeah, make fun of me. Your post of a few minutes ago is literally the first time anybody's ever told me that it's not possible to change what a TL3 person can do.
If an admin had just said that the first time I requested that they change this, then I wouldn't have spend the last month or whatever assuming they were just jerks ignoring my request entirely.
-
If I wanted stupid emojis in them, I'd have put them there myself.
You don't know what you want. You'll accept the UI changes, because changes Are Good.
I BEG the admins of this site to do SOMETHING so that fewer people have the ability to fuck with thread titles.
The people most likely to fuck with thread titles are those few anyways.
-
Maybe we could hook it in to a toaster that says, "This is a blakeythread. Editing the title will cause him to lose his feces. We are not saying not to do it, just beware that there will be complaining. Carry on."
Funny, not three hours ago:
-
Blakey has already channeled @raceprouk several times over the years.
Channeled is ? If so, @accalia must be jealous
Filed under: Or disturbingly turned on
-
If an admin had just said that the first time I requested that they change this,
You said it yourself (rather authoritatively) rather eloquently:
@blakeyrat said:That's not how Discourse is coded. Maybe it should be how a forum works, but it is not how Discourse works, and that's the piece of shit we're stuck with.
Yet even though:
@blakeyrat said:I'm done debating the obvious.
You keep squeaking your wheels...
Also, You were @Mentioned in a post:
@abarker said:The numbers for earning trust levels are configurable. The things that are granted by the various trust levels are not configurable.
So your statement:
Your post of a few minutes ago is literally the first time anybody's ever told me that it's not possible to change what a TL3 person can do.
Is again, a blatant lie. There, done your research for you, so you don't have to.
End of discussion.

So, @ben_lubar, what are the odds of renaming NodeBB to Magical Moon Elephants?
So @ben_lubar, what are the odds of implementing "let users edit post titles" in NodeBB? :moon:
