WTF are Climpies?
They're ummm... those things in the pictures. Rock solid, mostly sugar IIRC. The things I eat last from the sweet mix bags.

www.mdisc.com
M-DISC is an archival-quality storage solution that preserves photos, videos, music, and documents for 1,000 years or more
That's a pretty big claim from a format I've never heard about...
-
1,000 years or more
So about the amount of time it takes Ben to download a discs worth of stuff?
-
I'm not saying it doesn't work, but these quotes are a bit funny... As in, some of them kinda sound like "oh, yeah, burned this a millenia ago, still works!".

STATUS fuck you twitter.
I use to like the idea of favorites. I favorite something because I want to come back to it again. But this like nonsense implies something positive and not necessarily what I had in mind when clicking like. So I've deleted all my likes and twitter still counts twenty that I can't delete. Also the android app has gotten twice as retarded so I might end up writing my own thing because fuck you twitter.
-
Also the android app has gotten twice as retarded
I thought it had managed to max out the retarded, and now you tell me it's getting worse?
-

I think you're turning into blakeyrat.

And if you do lose data from a disc, you just make a warranty claim by accessing their
bug trackersupport forum, which requires a cryptographic key stored on an M-DISC that is sent to you when you purchase their product.Filed under: Because the key will be stored for 1000 years or more

All right. Welcome back now, then!
Hope it went well, even if it was to warmer territories.

Status: Just discovered DigiKey. They have a hell of a lot greater selection than Adafruit. And they have 11,000 millicandela red LEDs, which are potentially relevant to a current secret project of mine...

I don't like when things come back after decades of absence. It'll just feel off-putting and weird. Like those new Red Dwarf episodes. Or that one episode of ALF where they bring back the cast of Gilligan's Island.
-
I just either clicked the 'X' to stop loading, or simply typed the URL without waiting. (Oh, and change home page to "about:blank")
I'd just Ctrl+T for a new tab and type the URL. The default bloatware can load in the background, I don't care. I'm not going to change the configuration of someone else's system.
-
Like those new Red Dwarf episodes.
I'm kinda interested now, because they hinted at Rimmer getting rid of (some?) of his psychosis. I hope they don't retcon it, I'd like to see if they can do something interesting with the character in that regard.
-
Just discovered DigiKey
Really? My company relies on them (and Mouser) to get parts for all of our prototypes. I wouldn't be able to do crap without them.
-
Just discovered DigiKey.
They used to dominate the ads on Slashdot.
DigiKey EVERYWHERE!
-
they hinted at Rimmer getting rid of (some?) of his psychosis
Maybe he's going to become Ace again without actually leaving

We have an office in another state that deals with hardware production, we just do software and drivers. I unfortunately don't know anything about component procurement.

AdBlock! (inb4 flamewar)
Slashdot
I went there once yesterday. It was awful and I think their UI left me brain-damanged.
-
Hope not. That would get old fast. Ace is only fun in small doses, IMHO.
-
If it was done right, a longer storyline of our weasely Rimmer learning to become a hero could be pretty good. The single episode of that had to rush it, and the fact it's already been done probably rules it out but it wouldn't necessarily be a complete disaster
-

Wait, are we talking series 7 or 10? Because it was done twice now.
-

They did that like in season 3 with "Ace Rimmer".
Anyway who cares? The show's dead. The new episodes are just whipping a corpse. I mean it's amazing the huge delay between season 6 and 7 didn't kill it off, but 7 actually turned out ok despite that. Not good, but ok.
I mean. Look at Futurama. You can't just stop making a show for a couple years then come back like nothing happened. Writers have left, people did all kinds of different shows in between, took on different roles, all the momentum is gone, etc. Futurama ran for a few more years, but it just wasn't ever the same.
-
Back in my day, all we had were digikey and mouser.
Not sure if it still happens since the resurgence of the hobby, but it used to be that you could go to the websites of all the big IC vendors (TI, etc.) and order free "engineering samples" for use in "prototyping". That's how they drove sales to industry, but as a hobbyist you could get some exotic toys for nothing by claiming to be a design consultant or whatever.
-
-
I'm thinking of the series 7 one where Ace turns up injured and Rimmer has to take his place. I was just saying that a similar storyline done over a few episodes could be good.
They did that like in season 3 with "Ace Rimmer"
Rimmer didn't become Ace in that one, he just met and hated him

Still works with microchip! http://www.microchip.com/

Status: I just removed a lot of long-forgotten commented out code from this application. I'm tempted to include something to the effect of "we're not in the fifties, stop doing this" in my commit message.

they're putting punchcards in the VCS ?

Yeah I liked the end of that one.

(BTW: That video isn't corrupted, the effects in Red Dwarf season 7 actually looked like that. It's like they did CGI at 6 FPS then did quick fades to fill in the rest of the frames? It was weird.)
But an excellent little emotional moment in an otherwise silly show.
I was just saying that a similar storyline done over a few episodes could be good.
But they already did it!
Rimmer didn't become Ace in that one, he just met and hated him
Right. But the point was: they already explored a character who was Rimmer but without the psychological problems. It's been done.

As long as it's not like in The Simpsons, where Homer has learned to be a better husband 435523 times, yet he somehow hasn't changed at all.

Fuck Mozilla.

They have to use a different, slower, rendering engine than iOS Safari and they can't write their own?

You don't like reality based TV, then?
-
They don't intend to change that for this version iirc. I mean, obviously they'd like a full FoV, but this is the first iteration of the hardware. As for the dev kit cost, Glass was $10k. This will probably have a consumer release, and that will hopefully be much cheaper.
Status: Legacy of the Void was okay. The ending was tacked on rather badly. They had a completely pointless character hanging out through the whole campaign, whose only purpose was to be racist and occasionally get possessed. Still better than having Tychus there, but overall, apart from randomly changing how the zerg work, the second was the best.
-
I wouldn't be too surprised if they used ppt to format the input at this state of the proceedings.
