Wasn't that an accident, and he didn't notice it until it was too late to unlike it?
No, I demand a fresh one, applied deliberately.

So, the awful game Blakey might want to check out was called Brawlhalla apparently. The first review had a link to a site that had the key giveaway, but I've only run the thing once, and already think free is a rip-off for a game that's worth the negation of it's listed price.
Yesterday, I was training myself to play as different characters in Rivals of Aether, and despite how little is available right now, I love the combat. I can play well as the fire lion, who hits people harder if they're on fire, or as the stone beetle. I'm alright with the killer-whale-with-legs, but that thing is weird. The assassin is dumb, the ferret is weird and I don't get how you're meant to KO people, while the bird is just alright and nicely different from every other character in the genre.
Anyway, more people should try Rivals of Aether. Thoroughly satisfying game.

Status: pondering why
C#:
int testInteger; var testInteger2 = testInteger;
gives an error in the second line:
Use of unassigned local variable 'testInteger'
,
while the equivalent code in VB:Dim testInteger As Integer dim testInteger2 = testInteger
works just fine, setting
testInteger
andtestInteger2
to 0, although VB is said to be designed to be the more beginner friendly of the two languages.and wondering why getting used to bad practices is beginner friendly.
And whether this is enough for a Side Bar WTF

That game is boring and aimless, and even the random quests don't make it feel less empty.
and wondering why getting used to bad practices is beginner friendly.
It would be bad practice in some languages. But if having everything default is a feature of VB, this isn't bad practice there.
I mean, in LISP, it's good practice to use dashes in variable names.
Sometimes different languages really are different.

Maybe @abarker should update the definition of discominute.
Nah. The Hot Link badge is awarded when an external link you post is followed 300 times. UnSurprisingly, badges in discourse are not awarded based on when you meet the requirements, but rather on the post date of the post they are connected to. So @mott555 did actually receive a timely notification, it's just that the link the badge is connected to was posted on 2 September 2014.
tl;dr: This is just a symptom of the shitty design of the badge system.
-
Shame on me. Didn't think enough.
Forget what I just said. A true troll isn't afraid of posting before thinking. (And omitting the thinking part altogether.)
-
Nah. The Hot Link badge is awarded when an external link you post is followed 300 times
$("a").click(function(e) { return false; });
$("a").each(function() { for(i = 0; i < 300; i++) { $(this).click(); } } );You get a badge! And you get a badge! And you-- no, fuck you. You're an asshole. GET THE FUCK OUT. ...
You get a badge!

Really? That works?

New shittiness for Discourse/Alex personally (apparently).
So I tried to post something, got the famous "50x Ok" dialog, then tried to post it again and got the "this is too similar to something you've already posted" dialog.
Except it's gone now. Deleted.
Alex is really a dick giving me those two error messages and lying in the second.

and a lot of them.
who knows. maybe discourse is powered by webkit somewhere inside the ruby clusterfuck

Status: I was just thinking. Each digital assistant has it's own keywords that you have to say to get it to do anything, and they're typically designed to make it feel like a conversation.
But lets face it. If you really want people to use your digital assistant, you need to let them choose the keyword.
Because "Go go gadget Visual Studio" is unquestionably better than what we have now.

Status: http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2 so far today:
- A preview of today's programming by a guy in a chair
- A parody of 1990s SNL
- The same guy in a chair, but now with another guy and a woman, discussing how the starting experience has changed since launch
- The woman and a different guy showing the new Ranger elite specialization (Druid) that everyone wanted to know about
- Live music that was actually quite good
- A preview of some of the gameplay in the coming expansion pack
- Jennifer Hale (no, I don't know who that is) using her I'm-talking-down-to-a-two-year-old voice to explain how to make Guild Wars 2 food. And racism.
Because it's not enough to put a cooking show on a game broadcast, you also have to say things like "If you're inviting any Sylvari over, be sure to set aside some of the greens." and "This serves twelve, or six Charr."

Maybe the flame was the hat, but there aren't even any ashes left now.

it's just that the link the badge is connected to was posted on 2 September 2014.
And of course, Discurse doesn't provide you an easy way to look up which posts you have earned you a badge, because it's a piece of shit, @end.

Baked posts aren't executed on the server, right?!
Around here, the answer varies from yes, to no, to maybe. Depending on release.

Good to know. I thought I was just Doing It Worng.
Also, your notifications don't tell you what category the message is in ("useful" if you're following many categories).

Hey, I just earned the 5% poster badge-- and literally all I do is bash Discourse, troll, and make jokes that add nothing to the discussion.
Discourse!
-

If they're just Nice/Good/Great Post without an accompanying Mediocre/Passable/Reasonable Poster, they're in t/1000 (or other such excluded topic?). In any case, clicking on the notification will take you to the page for the badge, from which each badge links to the post for which it was awarded. Good luck figuring out which badge corresponds to the notification, though, because they're sorted by post date, not badge date, so if an old post just got a badge, you'll probably never figure out which one it was.

Quantity, not quality, that's what matters for civilized discourse.

Which I think is what I said, only more nicely.

Jennifer Hale (no, I don't know who that is) using her I'm-talking-down-to-a-two-year-old voice to explain how to make Guild Wars 2 food.
Galadriel in Shadow of Mordor, Lyris Titanborn in Elder Scrolls Online, Rosalind Lutece in Bioshock Infinite, Leah in Diablo III, Hawkgirl in Injustice: Gods Among Us, Sarah Palmer in Halo 4, Queen Jennah in Guild Wars 2, female Shepard in all the Mass Effect games...
She's pretty big in video games. That's just the ones I've played. Probably most famous for Mass Effect, both because she did a very good job and by contrast, because the guy who played male Shepard was barely conscious.

-
I dunno, it's your dumb game. That's what IMDB sez.
-
Oh, she has one line in one quest: "I will dedicate a special force to dealing with this new threat. If there is no Tyria, there is no Divinity's Reach."
Also probably some human-specific quests but who the fuck plays humans in video games?

People who don't have access to Khajiit.

I play a human in WoW for the racial bonus: +10% rep gain with everyone. It'll save you thousands of gold, just in riding and flying skill costs.

To be fair, the cutscene at the end of the last episode of Living World season 2 was a much better advertisement for the expansion pack:
