Status****strong text
This is going to become a meme here, isn't it?
Until one of three things happens:
- The above select-to-quote includes Status in bold
- Pressing a keyboard shortcut closes the same Markdown it opens
- New forums

No they won't. Or if they do, they will immediately drop the charges and apologize approximately three seconds****strong text after he says he's going to hire a lawyer.
It would be EXACTLY three seconds after, if they knew how a clock worked.
-
Here's an interesting thought I found in a comment to this story:
The school system had the kid arrested. They suspended him for three days and forced him to sign a statement under duress. They allowed the police to interrogate him, on school property, without legal representation or the presence of an adult guardian. You know what they never did?
Evacuate the school
-
I don't have faith in the system. He'll be like those poor people who legally carry guns through New York City airports, and are arrested in violation of the Firearms Owners’ Protection Act: the cops quietly drop all charges after a few days, because they know they will lose the lawsuit.
If this kid's smart, he'll find a lawyer who'll get a big settlement from the cops before they wake up and drop the charges.
-
> You know what they never did?
Evacuate the schoolThat tells us a couple of things, and the most important of them is "they knew****strong text he wasn't a threat."[1]
The others aren't really important.
[1] Here's how I knew: http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/breaking/Weapon-Threat-Locks-Down-Planos-Clark-High-School-326729991.html I heard about this one on the radio Friday.

Well duh. You put a space in there.

But if he was a threat, wouldn't locking everyone in be the worst possible thing to do?
The school was placed on lockdown. Frantic parents arrived at the front door after receiving social media alerts from the school and messages from students.
-
But if he was a threat, wouldn't locking everyone in be the worst possible thing to do?
Probably, but that's what the schools do: make the kids huddle in their classrooms so the serial killer doesn't have to tire himself out hunting them.

It's a real account. There was a whole BIG DEAL with the White House opened it.
That said, it's impossible to say whether Obama himself actually composed the tweet, but. Who knows. He might have.

25k?
Yeah, but the numbers don't mean much here. Posts can be, and have been, deleted or Jeffed from this topic. Ben, for example, could claim it for himself be deleting one of his earlier posts.

Right, only the immutable post IDs matter, not the post numbers, which depend on previous posts, and which are what @swayde was looking at. Which is why I said 25k doesn't matter, because it's the post number and subject to change, not the post ID which is subject to change, but nobody bothers looking at the post IDs in this topic.

Whelp. Clocks are dangerous stuff!
Despite the confusion and subsequent media fiasco, parents are now urged to take this opportunity to go over the Student Code of Conduct, as bringing dangerous items to school is strictly prohibited.

Gotcha. I seriously doubt he composes any particular tweet, or any one at all. Way too many flappers and PRs around public figures these days. Plus I'd rather him run the country than fuckabout on Twitter. At the very least it's "from the White House", rather than "some random fuckwit who got lucky and registered @potus".
-
>bringing dangerous items to school is strictly prohibited.
I guess that includes common sense.
-
Despite the confusion and subsequent media fiasco, parents are now urged to take this opportunity to go over the Student Code of Conduct, as bringing dangerous items to school is strictly prohibited.
Too many responses:
"Parents are encouraged to have their kids bring everything they own to school, day after day, week after week. Make the administration vet every item, with a full written report as to the safety of the item."
OR
"Parents are encouraged to go over the administrator's employment contracts, as bringing fucking idiots to school is strictly prohibited."
OR
"Flava-Flav could not be reached for comment."
OR
"Administrators are encouraged to go over the dictionary and review what the words sorry and resign mean, as they will be using both."
OR
ARG holy shit I just cannot believe how stupid this whole thing is. If tomorrow doesn't involve a protest with EVERY SINGLE student and teacher bringing a clock into school, then the whole country is fucking hopelessly fucked.
-
The White House has invited Ahmed to Astronomy Night at the White House next month, an event that connects students with government scientists and NASA astronauts.
“The fact is that America's best teachers in our schools, in our best schools at least, nurture the intellectual curiosity of all of our students," White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said. "In this instance, it’s clear that at least some of Ahmed's teachers failed him. That’s too bad, but it’s not too late for all of us to use this as a teachable moment, and to search our own conscience for biases in whatever form they take.”
Diplomatic speak for: You utter bunch of loons, what were you retards thinking?
I can only assume the principal had this one here as a role model:
-
The sentiment is good. Maybe the White House can follow that up by
- striking down all "Teach the controversy" style laws, and other anti-Science policies in Texas' education system
- properly funding the education system
- Jettison all administrative staff whose primary concern is ladder climbing rather than education
- sever all ties with for-profit education companies like Pearsons
- provide affordable post-secondary education
... y'know, or pull a PR stunt to take advantage of a student whose life, but for the grace of someone in the media noticing, was NEARLY destroyed by some idiots. Especially since this student is just one of HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS whose lives actually are destroyed by all the above policies, emboldened by all the same type of thinking by all the same type of administrators.

I'm about 800 kms from the nearest seismic zone
Lots of parts of the world have minor faults. Usually they only produce tiny earthquakes (get your sensitive seismometers ready!) but occasionally they produce a bigger one. Rarely they do a huge shock, but that's pretty unlikely.
There are other possible causes too. The last earthquake I can remember feeling was probably due to the collapse of an old mine working.
-
it turns out it was a big one. but far away

What? I would certainly expect a bloody seabird to bloody well taste bloody.
Yes, I get the joke. Monty Python, Episode 13, Albatross skit.

Quick! What's this:
That's the clock the kid brought to school. His teacher - with no electronics training - thought it looked like a bomb and reported it to the police. The teacher did this in the interest of protecting the other students. Did the teacher overreact? Maybe. But how would everyone feel if things had gone the other way? The kid was released, no charges were filed, everything will be fine. He will suffer no longer term ill effects (well, maybe mental scars) from this event,
Roaches are one of few insects that actually taste like shit. There's only a select few animals that eat them. I would venture a guess that your cat has already found that out the hard way.
-
Did you find it out the hard way also?

By watching the children's channel, a programme where they visited Copenhagen zoo. So, yes.

It's the system version that counts. Well, we'll see. I am actually wondering how will users react to having half of the screen in ads. Or maybe someone will come to their senses and turn it off, before issuing an OS update.
AFICT, the system version is 1202, with 1217 waiting in the upgade pipe. Haven't found any ads yet, but have been mainly tapped in to the hdmi ports (and will probably remain so).
Would you mind explaining more about the ads? It seems like a huge for Samsung to serve ads on a TV I've already paid for.
-
Sort of. I mean, shell access and discourse instance admin rights are not really the same things.
With shell access it cannot be that hard to get admin access. And with shell access presumably comes database access, so who cares about admin access?
