Status: My new work machine has the USB3 ports on the back.
Where do you want them to be?
-
the front?
-
the front?
Well I guess knowing the type of machine would help. Are we talking about a laptop, or a desktop, or a all-in-one, or...?
I guess my home desktop has USB ports on the top of the front, but I don't use them because (like all SANE people) I put a USB hub on my desk and plug shit in there.
-
If care enough to specify USB3, like we're currently discussing, you're probably doing it for the speed. Using a USB hub means sharing the connection, possibly reducing your speed. Therefore, directly connecting is ideal, which is less likely to work if the port is in the back. While modern laptops do occasionally have USB ports in the back, no one has a hard time reaching the back of a laptop, and an all-in-one is mobile enough to get to the USB ports generally.
Except in my case, I knew all that without writing a paragraph.
-
Where do you want them to be?
On the bottom, of course, where they're even less useful.
-
I put a USB hub on my desk and plug shit in there.
My company is probably too cheap to buy me a USB3 hub. By contrast, my much better home desktop has 6 front/top ports, 4 of which are super speed.

Desktop.

Status: Got a new laptop as a gift for my birthday. I have decided to name her Zee. I expect someone to be rather jealous about that. ;-)

Why?

I think I know

she knows why.
something about the sekret PM club

Using a USB hub means sharing the connection, possibly reducing your speed.
Unless you have multiple USB controllers on your motherboard, the bandwidth is likely shared between all USB ports anyway. Using a hub really doesn't matter as long as the hub will support the bandwidth.
-
-
why should i care about that?
-
Hey, I'm not saying my reasons are good, just that I didn't have to think hard to reach them.
-
she knows why.

How about keeping the "sekret PM" stuff in the sekret PM club? Then the rest of us don't need to be bothered with it.

This time, I'm definitely not whooshing. That I can guarantee ;)

I think I can be excused, given we Britishers call it a 'Zed'

Zed's dead, baby.

Right; it could also possibly cause monkeys to fly out of your ears into space.
Not likely though.
My company is probably too cheap to buy me a USB3 hub.
So buy one and expense it. They're not going to question a $25 purchase.

Fallout 4 trailer. Very underwhelming.

Status: i'm nto entirely sure what i expected, but it wasn't this:

Adding 2^64 elements to the stack might be a bit much.
-
Very underwhelming
Eh, what did you expect? They're telling nothing at this time other than "we're making a game. It's Fallout as usual."
I liked the pre-war/post-war contrast. Wish we got some more backstory on the pre-war times.

Status: I just fell asleep at my desk for who knows how long. I need to start sleeping more/better.

It's Fallout as usual.
Is kinda a wonky statement considering the differences between 1&2 vs 3&Vegas. Though if they were doing something like the first pair that would be very surprising.

I was expecting just a teaser. But it seems they have some real world graphics done there. And it looks pretty standard.

I liked the backstory you got from terminals, books, dialogues... I hate this animated crap.
-
The intros in 3/NV were modelled after 1, and this looks like a somewhat extended intro. So not much difference here.
They're different gameplay-wise (duh), but I expect 3/NV's gameplay will be relatively unchanged.
graphics
Well, it doesn't look like a 2015 game, but whatever, still Fallout.
terminals, books, dialogues
Eh, it's something (Fallout Bible is a must-read too if you're into it), but making it into a proper part of gameplay would be cool. Also maybe make the main story suck just a little less, because let's face it, the main plot of pretty much each Fallout is rather meh - it's all in the setting.

but community member Accalia proposed something more civilized — what if we just muted all notifications from people on your mute list?
@Blakeyrat should also get kudos for this.
Thank you blakey for helping make Discourse better for all of us!

i thought i was first on the death list? or are there multiple people tied for first?

My company would. They question every expense that comes out of IT.

You know, you can put quite a lot of people against one wall.

including me twice it seems

Hey @accalia, Jeff gave you a shoutout on the Discourse 1.3 release blog post.
I love how almost all the screenshots seem to have nothing at all to do with the described features until you realize they're actually short video clips.
Because, you know, screenshots are so 2014.

I had an 13" iBook that did that. Returned it to Apple. Less than 3 months later, the replacement iBook did it again. Returned it to Apple. Guy at Apple store said, "yeah we got a shipment of bum GPUs but instead of tossing the inventory they just hand them out and let them fail. Here, take the next hardware revision, it won't have the problem."
That is the story of how I got a free laptop upgrade from Apple. Although I deserved it for them selling me a lemon they knew was a lemon, fucking Apple.

You should be thanking them for the sublime privilege of being allowed to own an Apple product.
