Dota 2 is not a shitty game
Says who?
Oh yeah, the entire population of Korea. ;)
Just kidding, I have no idea as I have never played it. The only thing I know about it is that it is huge in Korea, unless I have confused that game with another.
-
It's LoL that's huge in Korea, probably because they were there first.
EE on Koreans playing Dota 2:

So yeah, I know fuck-all about gaming.

Status: Considering getting another DMM to go alongside my (inherited) Fluke 77 III...
I ordered another multimeter the other day. I should have it this week. I decided it would be handy to occasionally measure voltage and amperage at the same time. That would truly be black magic to most people.
-
Except the rainbow isn't going up and down.
it does when it's animating. the colors get lost when copying the text for discourse
i also switched to the dot reporter becayse nyancat was causing perf issues with testing
turns out that takes a lot of effort to animate. go figure.
-
So a testing framework has a mode that causes issues with testing

Status: My current cell phone bill is one of three widely different values, depending on where I look on my provider's website. It's either $0, $94.67, or $184.30.
-
So a testing framework has a mode that causes issues with testing
well given that nyan is not the default test reporter and was added for a joke, and the docs do say that it may cause poor test performance (speed wise, it's just a test reporter, not a test runner) i'm not surprised i switched away from it.
was fun while it lasted.

Evil idea: When measuring it, "accidentally" touch the other set of probes and yell: "OH MY GOD I CROSSED THE STREAMS!"
I'd set them both to measure voltage at that point, though. Don't want to accidentally make a circuit with the ampermeter and connect it parallel to something...
Filed under: Speelchucker doesn't like "ampermeter". Broken or do I need to learn moar English terminology?
-
I think its ammeter.
-
Spellchecker checks out. Weird. Oh well, TIL. 'preciated.
-
I don't even know when I learned that. Possibly highschool in NZ. It's one of those wonderful words that isn't spelled like the word it's related to, British or incorrect American both. (I mean, possibly there are british people who say 'amps', but...)
-
Well, then again, I never heard anyone say "Amper(e)s" in English, either, so...
-
You measure the amperage, or number of amps, with an ammeter. Seems perfectly simple to me
-

I have never heard a Brit,
thieving bastardAustralian or Kiwi say anything other than "amps".

There is a distinct lack of "nowhere" over in Europe
You forgot Poland.
Speaking of which, TIL that the idiom "polish parliament" is not as commonly recognised outside Sweden as I thought.
-
In school, you get told off for not saying ampere. It's like the centrifugal force thing.
-
-
There is no such thing as centrifugal force.
-
I know; that's not what I was ing about
-
As far as I know, schools forcing you to say that is equally messed up.
-
There is no such thing as centrifugal force.
So, there's also no such thing as Coriolis force?
I know, I know, I just don't get the hate against the term when used properly. It's a useful tool none the less.
-
Exactly.
-
Hold on... do they deny the Coriolis force as well, then?
I'm pretty sure we were explained what the difference between centripetal and centrifugal force is, and we were allowed to use the term if used in proper context.

Status: flipped calendar page, was Super Chief , so  that it's departing...
But replaced with a color painting by Fogg of this bad boy
So
-
Considering Randall complains about it in several comics too, I'm probably not the only one who's seen this weirdness.
-
So
Ah, there we go, the thing I expected will happen with links, it didn't, and then I got laughed at in the TIL thread (the title still reflects that).
Go ahead, figure out what @ijij put in the

without viewing raw. I dare you.EDIT: Oh, I found a pixel where it works...
Filed under: Waiting for someone to post that it's doable in browser X...

Your display picture reminded me of both Dio and this guy, and so I uncharacteristically went with this guy.

I am happy you tried! ;)

measure voltage and amperage at the same time
How are you going to do ...
another multimeter
-
Well, technically, if he found a multimeter that also includes a wattmeter, it could have a way to switch modes on the fly...
What, it's not a wattmeter either? No, I'm not googling it, I give up...
-
Hold on... do they deny the Coriolis force as well, then?
Shai Hulud will claim them when the next mother storms comes.

I want a game that uses arbitrary precision, or at least int64s, for stats. +1000000000000000000000000000 attack speed bracelet of going fast.
Clicker Heroes is popular on Steam right now.
I think when I quit I was doing around 7 sextillion damage a click.
-
You should totally do a Kickstarter for an artist.
If he's going to take it seriously, he should grab Unreal and make a real game.
-
Speaking of which, TIL that the idiom "polish parliament" is not as commonly recognised outside Sweden as I thought.
What does it imply?
-
Apparently that game plays itself even when closed.
-
I don't think so, but it keeps running while minimized. EDIT: actually now that I think about it, I never had it closed during the 4-5 days I was playing with it. So I don't know.

Status: I just had to call a client because we ran over their retainer limit for the month. Today is the 2nd.
Client: "Well, doesn't it roll over pretty soon?"
Me: "Uhmmmmm, no. It just rolled over two days ago, that is why I called you."
Client: "Oh. Well. Shit. Well, we can't go without support. I obviously authorize additional charges for this month... Shit, this little incident is really going to cost us, eh?"
Me: "Yeah, sorry about that."
This is going to be a great month for billable hours!

Status: after today's browse of coding standard docs.
It's important to separate the database as another layer, due to the "thin client-thick server" model we aim to achieve, which means that most of the business logic should be stored in the database...
Oh fuck, not this shit agaaaain...
Filed under: at least they seem to do UI as a fully separate layer, which is nice

Status: set my dad's computer up with Google Photos auto backup. It currently says there are over 10000 photos waiting to be uploaded and the number is going up rapidly. I'm hoping that they filter out duplicates because for some reason he has about 20 of each photo.
Also, RIP internet speed.
