Status: dropped a raisin in my coffee and I can't find it with a spoon.
Try a fork?
Status: Boring staff meetings for the rest of the afternoon. At least I'll catch up with some odds-and-ends work.
-
Status: why the fuck is it so hard to set up Linux to log in into a Windows domain... Never mind, answered my own question.
Now messing around with login screen themes to find one that enables me to enter the username manually when I need it while still being mostly "click here" for the regular users...
Update: I am a moron. All themes that have a userlist enable you to enter a username by hitting Esc anyway...

Try a fork?
I don't have a fork. I drank the coffee until I could see the raisin.
-
Status: Increasing the cuteness factor of the Nice Post page by, oh, about a million?
that deserves cupcakes!

I drank the coffee until I could see the raisin.
I have no idea why I find that so amusing
-
I drank the coffee until I could see the raisin.
Why were you so desperate to find the raisin that you would resort to actually drinking — ugh, *shudder* — coffee to get to it?
BRB; going to get my morning tea.
-
Heretic!
-
Tea in hand, typing with the other, I can report that my probable status for the rest of the day will be drinking a lot more tea. I stayed up much too late last night, but despite that, woke up almost an hour before my alarm this morning, for a net result of a bit over 4 hours of sleep. In fact, the sound of my alarm is coming from my bedroom even as I am typing this.

Status: The staff meeting suddenly took a turn for the better when the HoD brought cake to celebrate a funding grant.
-
Why the belgium can't I allocate 1GB to Eclipse. I have 10GB of free ram. I can't stand whatever POC software they've installed that fragments the memory that much.
-
Cake meetings are the best type of meetings.
Status: on a bus blocked by traffic and public works. Yay! I miss my bicycle
-
Why do you have to allocate memory? Are you running Eclipse in Mac Classic?
-
?
So eclipse isn't limited to whatever amount of memory it defaults to?
-
If you have to explicitly tell it how much memory to allocate and use then it's either a stupid piece of software or is running in an OS that doesn't handle memory for you. I haven't had to allocate memory myself since I had an iMac with OS9 on it
-
You need to tell the JVM how much memory min/max to use or it defaults to something tiny IIRC.
Well, min is optional, but max needs setting to avoid the default. So eclipse isn't limited to whatever amount of memory it defaults to?
Yes, it is.
-
I knew that. I was wondering if he didn't know that.
And the other thing is that the memory has to be one contiguous block. For some reason the JVM isn't smart enough to attempt allocation of multiple memory blocks.
-
What are you setting
Xms
andXmx
to?edit: But yes, that can be a pain.
-
40m 1G respectively.
Well now nothing so I can actually open it.
-
Hmm. Stupid thing.
-
Status: Hungry.
-
And the other thing is that the memory has to be one contiguous block.
That's unimportant, and has been since the invention of virtual memory.
-
I drank the coffee until I could see the raisin.
Was it back to being a grape when you got to it?
-
Was it back to being a grape when you got to it?
A coffee-flavoured grape?
Might have been a wee bit juicier than the rest.

Apparently so.
Status: Sitting in the waiting room at the Dr's office. There is a woman in here who has voice notifications on her phone and they are going off constantly.
"Email from...Subject..."
"Text from..."
If she were blind or visually impaired, I would give her a pass of course. But, she is reading a magazine, so she's just rude and obnoxious.
Also, the receptionist here has the same voice as that woman from Office Space. It reminds me of, "Corporate accounts payable, Nina speaking. Juse a moment."
I am here for blood work that I had to fast for. No breakfast, no caffeine. That exacerbates it.
-
Nope. Apparently not.

This Thursday feels so Friday.
There is something going around then. Yesterday I showed up for an appointment and I was 24 hrs early.

This Thursday is my Friday. I'm off tomorrow.
It's also only the third day I've been in work this week.

Status (at least eventually - working with
mask=20
at the moment):ssh_port=22 net=10.0.0.0 mask=9 zmap -B 2M -p ${ssh_port} ${net}/${mask} -o ${PROGDIR}/${net}_${mask}_${ssh_port}_tmp -i br0
Then prodding around with that output and prod those I have access to, to start doing some decent DNS within the company....
:sigh:
[details=For the uninitiated]
I'm scanning part of our private network (the part of RFC1918 we've reserved for customers' systems - normally 10.0.0.0 - 10.128.255.255) for systems that appear to have ssh access enabled.
I shall then, for those that do, try to log on and retrieve the 'name' of the systems.
And the output of that will be going into some
named
zone files.[/details]
As a company, (at least the departments that care) we currently (ab)use
/etc/hosts
files. And (here's the WTF) everyone has their own file, with their own nomenclature within them. Copied from someone else. Maybe.
For example the canonical way of naming a host is
mostspecific.lessspecific.generic
- e.g.computer1.example.com
Some idiots here, in their own personal hosts files, have the systems as
generic.lessspecific.mostspecifc
. I want that sort of thing to stop, and to have some sort of canonical list with everything in it, not "just the things $SERVICE_DESK happen to have needed this month"

Speaking of which... When I go in to my profile and look at "likes received", sometimes the same post appears in several places:

Am I the only one or is this a Known FeatureTM?
I assumed it mean that some people liked your first post, then some people liked the second post and then finally one more person liked your first post again, so that it's capturing the sequence in which the likes were given...

Status: Windows 8.1 Enterprise just crashed while building a project in VS. Who said Windows doesn't crash anymore?
And now a part of my build is failing.
Error C1083:Cannot open include file:
Fuck you VS. It worked before.
Go to header file, see squiggly lines, right-click "Open Document" and it opens just fine. So what's your major malfunction VS?

Do Priusi exist outside of Left-Pondia?
You see them on the right of the pond, but they're not massively common

soon-to-be-ex-employer
Ah, you've been told you're going to be laid off soon? You've been kinda coy about it so far, unless you said more on a topic I missed.
-
dropped a raisin in my coffee
How did you manage that?
I can't find it with a spoon.
Shouldn't matter until you get to the bottom anyway.

This Thursday is my Friday. I'm off tomorrow.
Ditto. I start a four day weekend when I get off work today.
