I like having our
.clang-format
file. I don't have to think about most of that! I may not like them, but I can quickly apply them! Those are for style review. Never seen anybody but me do actual code review.
Also, nobody likes micromanagement except the micromanager.

Very doable but the system will be extremely unhappy...
On a whim I did some Googling and apparently you can convert Win11 Explorer back to the Win10 version, and even remove the stupid pointless tabs, with just some registry settings.
I haven't tried it yet and it sounds too good to be true. But I'll give it a try tomorrow and see what happens. It's not like it will be the first time I blew up my computer.

That's what VMs are for. Try it there, if it works, apply on real machine. If it fails, rollback.

Sadly, my suspicions were correct, it is too good to be true. The registry changes rendered Explorer completely broken and useless.

I should find my GitHub credentials again.
Edit: they were in my password manager. Who would have thought?
I don't remember how I set up my GH credentials last time. I want to use a particular SSH key for my tdwtf repo, but
git clone -c core.sshCommand="/usr/bin/ssh.exe -i ~/.ssh/zecc_tdwtf" git@github.com:Zecc/tdwtf
is failing withPlease make sure you have the correct access rights and the repository exists.
Filed under: not a help thread.
Fake edit: adding -v to the ssh command shows
C:/Program Files/Git/usr/bin/ssh.exe -v -i /c/Users/Zecc/.ssh/zecc_github: C:/Program: No such file or directory
The thread for software which can't handle spaces is elsewhere. This worked:
git clone -c core.sshCommand='"/c/Program Files/Git/usr/bin/ssh.exe" -v -i /c/Users/Zecc/.ssh/zecc_github' git@github.com:Zecc/tdwtf
Hurray for experimenting different quoting strategies.

My Mac wants to upgrade from Ventura to Sonoma...
I did that the other day. Didn’t take long and was perfectly smooth. Only asks you if you want a new desktop background, that’s basically it.
I spoke too soon. Already ran into two problems.
First, I tried to take a screenshot and then the selection overlay didn't go away, so half the screen was dimmed until I logged out.
Then, I just realized that they have enabled a "helpful" feature (that apparently existed before, but wasn't active) where it pretends your keyboard is a phone. If you hold down a key, it pops up an alternative character selection instead of repeating keys. Even though in settings you can configure the key repeat rate, but not this. Some random-ass command to the rescue. It's like
LinuxRegEdit all over again.

One had no effect (as far as I could tell).
The other one, that was supposed to get rid of the tabs, did have an effect, and it was bad. It got rid of the tabs, but it also turned the upper part of Explorer into white text and icons on a white background. Not very usable.

Also: dizzy.Put them on and seemed to fit perfectly immediately. Just a bit later I realized looking sideways is different from the old glasses. So when I was shopping in the veggie section of the supermarket, looking around and moving my head/eyes fast, that combined with the mirrors they have everywhere made my head spin.
Hopefully I’ll soon adjust to it.

Pretty much every time I've gotten a new prescription, I've gone thru that. Sometimes the adjustment is a day or two. Sometimes more like a week.

My favorite is when you go to a new place for the first time, they mess up the measurement of the optical center for your lens, you suffer through a week of adjustment headaches that don’t get any better at all and then go back in to ask for a remake and the person in front of you is there for the same exact thing. And the staff refuse to give either of you a remake and gaslight you both that you just need more time to adjust.
Pearle Vision ${mytown}. Worst $600 I’ve ever spent.
Edit to add: And in the end, they didn't give me a refund for any of it. And I didn't even have the option to go back to my old lenses, because they destroyed them while measuring me for my new lenses (by marking on the old lenses with permanent marker to indicate where my optical center was). I had to drive back to my old hometown on an emergency basis to get my previous eye doctor to re-examine me and get me new glasses (this was about three months after I had moved ~90 minutes away for a new job and I wasn't going to keep faffing about with new providers in the new town while I had no working eyeglasses).

Astigmatism correction?
Fortunately, I do not (yet) need glasses for intermediate distances (a few meters). Though I need them for hardest work (shitposting on WDTWTF), or reading fine print. And I wear far-distance glasses when driving my car.

Yes, but the same values as the previous prescription. I guess the frame is a different size or something.
