Why is there even a second keyboard layout installed
Windows decided you needed it. Possibly based on the country it thinks you're in.
@topspin said in The Official Status Thread:
how can I uninstall it without administrator access
How depends on your windows version. Not needing admin access would make sense, which means it's odds on you do need it. Though it looks like in windows 11 you don't.

Good. I don't want a promotion; I just want to keep my job and continue getting a paycheck. A promotion means more work, and maybe even quasi-management responsibilities. Nope!

As if you don't have to read an XML file to parse its tag soup.

@topspin On US Win10, at least, it's definitely Alt+Shift by default. I know this because I have multiple keyboard layouts installed and switch between them frequently — sometimes even intentionally.
I thought it’s that, but that didn’t do anything.
It switched from “DE - DE” to “DE - US”, whatever that is. Maybe the other key combination would change the first part, if another corresponding layout was installed?

absinthe cocktails are pretty good but if you have work in the morning where you’re expected to contribute tonight is not the night to indulge.

@loopback0 Odd thing is, I see that on one of the two machines I have. Both on the same google account. Both using the same chrome profile, including ABP. Windows gets blocked. Mac has no issues. Both up to date on Chrome.
-
@loopback0 It's started to bark at me about an ad-blocker too in the last week.
The irony of this coming from Google. Remember when AdSense wasn't irritating as hell so people didn't block their ads? Pepperidge Farms remembers. Maybe Google should consider making YouTube ads less annoying if they want people to shut off their ad-blockers.
-
@Zenith said in The Official Status Thread:

IME the Youtube ads are only annoying on desktop. Mobile and TV have ads but they're less frequent, shorter and more skippable.
If they had a cheaper "I don't give a fuck about Youtube Music, I just want no ads" option for Premium I'd probably pay it.

@Benjamin-Hall I've found, at least for now, opening the video in a "private" window results in no griping. Of course, that also means being not logged in, so I can't up-vote anything.

I have no intention and desire to up vote things, so...meh. I do like having my profile.
-
@loopback0 I've had the "ad blockers aren't allowed" pop-up a few times when I'm at work over a few days, but not at all when I'm at home on either of the two devices I use, and I haven't got the three strikes pop-up yet.
I use the same Google Account and all three are running Brave and uBlock Origin.

The only place I watch YouTube while logged in is my phone, where you don't get much of a choice.
I've seen the new nag screen a couple times, but overall the ad blockers seem to be keeping up in the arms race.

I do for channels I subscribe to, because it helps the channels grow; The Algorithm® suggests the videos to more potential viewers. I don't comment on videos, I don't "join" any channels, I don't do superchats, and I don't (yet) support any on Patreon, so it's a simple, free way I can help the creators I think put out good content. But if YT insists on being , it makes it a lot less simple.

I don't subscribe to channels. I use Youtube almost exclusively for background music. And that's almost a random walk...ish.

That's the best time to be upvoting things, so it can remember what you like. Half the reason I folded to the adblock badgering is because of how good YouTube Music's recommendations are when you start upvoting things.

Updating the filter lists on uBlock Origin seems to have sorted it for now.

@Benjamin-Hall said in The Official Status Thread:

If I want background music, I generally stream one of the radio stations I like. I subscribe to several music channels on YouTube, everything from medieval music to stuff written yesterday, but if I watch one of those, it's because I want to actively listen to it. Usually; sometimes I get distracted and it ends up being background music, but that's not my intention. And I upvote nearly all of those — even some of the contemporary pieces that are — because that encourages YT to recommend similar videos. That's how I found almost everything I subscribe to.

Are there any other kind of jokes left in this world? Mostly because this world’s human population broadly does not deserve new, good jokes.

Even if the courts do eventually declare it illegal, after years of litigation and many millions of $currency given to lawyers, they'll only stop in the specific jurisdictions where they're forced to.

Well, it’s a party at the uni because for who knows what reason the students do those on Thursdays. (Instead of Friday like normal people, or on Halloween proper.)
I’m going to put a blocker in my calendar in the morning and sleep in.

Hells no.
YMMV, of course, but before I rooted my TV for the sole purpose of blocking ads, I’ve had 30 minute videos with 10-15 ad breaks.
Live by the ads, die by the ads.

I've ripped all my CDs, so I've got my music library on the network at home, a large subset on my Surface tablet, a small subset on my phone, and whatever
Google PlayYouTube Music feels like letting me stream out of the stuff I've uploaded. (It tries hard to keep you out of your library.)
