Status: worldview shattered.
What I had confidently believed was ‘ferric’ and what was ‘ferrous’ were, in fact, completely reversed from reality.

Shit. Lemme check myself.
Ferric is exhibiting reaction to magnetism, ferrous is containing iron, ye?
<<Googles>>
Well, close enough. What's the diff?

Fe2+ vs Fe3+.
See, I had been thinking ferrous is longer, so it has the higher oxidation state. Kinda like how ammonium has more H than ammonia. But you have to remember it’s the reverse of that.
My father with the chemistry degree apparently remembers that the ‘i’ in ferric comes before the ‘o’ in ferrous alphabetically, so it has the lower— no, higher oxidation state. Because it’s the reverse of that one too.
I was probably remembering to do it backwards at some point in the past , but must have forgotten and had it backwards since.

@kazitor O is low, I is high?

The "-ic" vs "-ous" convention applies to other metal ions too, but once things get to metals that can have more than two then the oxidation state is just written out in Roman numerals. You can do that with iron too, e.g., ferrous oxide (iron (II) oxide) and ferric chloride (iron (III) chloride).
I just learned the endings directly at school. No mnemonics at all.

I ended up with "the more threatening highwayman name is the more threatening compound" - "Ferrous" v "Ferric", well, Ferric is gonna just stab the shit out of you, right?

Will Rust tell you if you don't actually call the new function you just added? Or, better, if you call it one place but not where you really need to call it?
-
@HardwareGeek Always remember: the space of things you didn't do is one of the greater infinities in the universe.

to be Wally takes character. You need to rise to the occasion and be happy to fail at every opportunity.
I'm not sure I'm cut out for this.

Don't ask me. I'm not one of those ferric-obsessive people.

For this forum, I believe the appropriate ending is "al". As in "feral".

It depends on the conditions under which the oxidation occurs, but typically it's a hydrated mixture of both, with varying amounts of water.

It won't surprise you that I considered looking it up before posting, then went ", will post the correct answer anyways".
-
@Zerosquare FWIW. I to look it up, either. I just posted what I could (reasonably) confidently say off the top of my head.

@Zenith Alright, they can manage to send it a full day after the order was placed.

The real question is not "when do they ship it?", but "(when) will I receive it?".

No, you said the twenty-third month. Month 21 is Undevigintember
ETA: fake edit: there is no edit.
-
@kazitor According to https://blogs.transparent.com/latin/latin-numbers-1-100/,
Ok, the "seventh" month is actually the ninth month of the modern calendar, the "eighth" month is actually the tenth month, the "ninth" month is actually the eleventh month, etc. So the 21st month should be named 19. So it should be Undevigintimber, which is what I said. Where did you get Vigintitresember?
-
@HardwareGeek said in The Official Status Thread:

You fool! You left your edit history public!
Where did you get Vigintitresember?
Brain fart, of course. Trying to adjust the name into a number rather than the number into the name as I’m more accustomed to.

@error you can get it back with some helpers and a specialized tuple type Fork, or, use the full-fat RxJava stuff. Java streams are a lower-level notion than LINQ's rampantly concern-mixing synthetic drool-resistant surface.

Status: Stupid bank. Apparently they decided to end Saturday hours while shortening hours the rest of the week. And of course I only discover this upon pulling into an empty parking lot.
-
@Zenith Look at the bright side: you immediately found a parking slot. When does such a thing ever happen?
-
Monday - Submitted receipts to employer for reimbursement
Tuesday - Rejected due to not containing certain required information. I check and all the required information is there.
Wednesday - Re-submit receipts, exactly the same as on Monday.
Thursday - Rejected again due to not containing the required information. I give up and figure that I'm just not getting the money.
Friday - I receive an e-mail that my submission has been accepted.

Young man, there is one important exception to the rule: when it is about getting something you're owed.
