Gotta save on our thread budget.

Ah yes. You know I love resurrecting threads. Thank you.

Delivery status wet dream: Yesterday 9pm I ordered a new mouse (logitech G502) using standard free shipping.
Yesterday 11pm I got an email saying the package had been picked up by the shipping partner
Today 7am I got an email saying the package would be delivered between 11:45 and 13:45 today.
Today 13:15 the package was delivered.
Actual status: See above. It really happened like that.

status first movie watched. Production values are up. Everything sure is prettier. I never liked Shinji that much but watching it as an adult and hearing that this is how the director and his friends felt growing up explains rather a lot. I have the feeling I remember this for the mecha rather than the plot.

It's 2021. WhyTF do people still sell KVM switches that support (only) VGA monitors?
I'ma say it's because people still buy them.
I'ma say it's because users have no idea what cable is appropriate.
Wait, do we???

I do not have the RAM.
Why does a package last reported 2.5 hours west of me have to travel 3 hours east of me (and back again, all of which takes 24 hours) before it can be delivered?
It won't get here until tomorrow, but it's only "potentially" delayed. I'd like to "potentially" delay paying them (but I can't, because the shipping has already been paid by Dell).
It's potentially at my local facility. It was potentially put on a truck for delivery at 03:30. That truck is potentially driving around delivering stuff. I wonder if their trucks deliver FIFO or LIFO (or neither), because at 03:30, that's gotta be one of the first things on the truck.

DIDO, also known as DIlDO, or IO.

I'd assume they use an approximate solution to the travelling salesman problem to deliver as many packages as possible in limited time while driving as few kilometers as possible.
-
@PleegWat Sure, but I'd assume they also load the truck to facilitate that. You don't want the package for your first stop to be buried under stuff that won't be unloaded for another 200 stops.

Bold of you to assume they donāt just pick packages at random to throw through non-subscribersā windows.

It's the one that fits the connectors available.

I'd assume they use an approximate solution to the travelling salesman problem to deliver nearly as many packages as possible in limited time while driving nearly as few kilometers as possible.

status finished second movie. I started watching it in fast forward. If you cut out the god awful interpersonal scenes it actually quite good. That being said they're there so its about an hour too long and just short of terrible.

Not sure this is how Jackson intended the LOTR trilogy to be consumed, but sounds promising.

It was a cosmic evil on the grand scale, as are all attempts to alter another's path to surcease. But, good on the large scale. Evil again in medium. Good again in smallest.

Status: I have RAM. I haven't installed it yet, because I'm currently using the computer, but I will soon. And that's it. No more deliveries scheduled. There are things I need/want to buy, but I haven't bought them yet. Nothing en route. Nothing "potentially" delayed. Nothing lost by USPS for a week and a half or sent on a 1000 mile detour for no reason. At least nothing that I remember.

Status: After six long decades of pandemic, I stepped foot outside the house and am spending the weekend and the Bodensee (Lake Constance).
This put immediate focus on things you donāt have while working from home. First off, taking the train, there are lots of annoying people. Many examples, but Iāll pick this one guy who besides annoying me in the usual ways had one peculiarity: at some point he got out a little round box with brown stuff, scooped some out of it and started chewing. Are you chewing tobacco? That is a thing? What do you think you are, a freaking 1900s cowboy? Ewwe, disgusting! This was of course none of my business and not actively affecting me (unlike other things), but still noteworthy in the āpeople are grossā department.
Anyways, arrived here, itās a quite a beautiful place. Took a bit of a bike ride along the lake, had dinner, then watched the sunset at the lakeside. Noice.
Then the mosquitos started biting me, and I started slapping them:
What. The. Actual. Fuck?!
Did I just kill a whole bat, or vampire?! I sure hope thatās not all my blood.Anyways, thatās the kind of problems you donāt need to deal with while basement-dwelling.
-
@topspin said in The Official Status Thread:
Are you chewing tobacco? That is still a thing?
Yeah. No idea why. Not going to try it and get hooked myself just to sate my morbidity.
-
@topspin said in The Official Status Thread:

Disagree about the mosquitos. I get plenty of those at home.
I sure hope thatās not all my blood.
Better all yours than having given you some unidentified disease from the person it bit before you.

It has the advantage of not being nearly so noxious to other people as smoking or even vaping.

Most I got normally is fruit flies, which steal my food instead of my blood.
I sure hope thatās not all my blood.
Better all yours than having given you some unidentified disease from the person it bit before you.
Ewwe, thatās even more disgusting.
Thankfully mosquitos donāt transmit malaria north of the Alps.

status movie three could have being replaced with a placard that said "the matrix reloaded but eva 01 is now the ship". I wish I was joking.... not even a decent mech battle to redeem it.
Utter irredeemable thrash.
The last movie is over two and a half hours long. I have the feeling the matrix comparison is going to be quite apt.

You can also do heavy physical labor while chewing. This is much harder, with smoking.
And, somebody pisses you off? Bang, right in the eye, like a camel.

The what-now? They only made one Matrix film. There were no further films. None.

Nah, the Delivery Distortion Field story arc can't end on such an anti-climax. I bet you're gonna start receiving stuff you haven't ordered. Then asked to ship it back. Of course, it will go comically wrong.

This is apparently due to the server telling the object it is owned after telling said object it should react to being held (the function in question where I made the print call displayed).

Status: Pleasantly surprised by the performance/turnout of the local(ish) toy show today.

Status: Had TWO heart-worthy runs as Silent that I killed by forgetting to gather the keys. First time I reflexively clicked the relic in the last chest even though I didn't need it. Second time I remembered it and was extra careful to not repeat it, but then I forgot to recall during rest. God fucking dammit.
-
status: it's always nice when the bitch randomly comes up when I'm lying in bed and just starts sucking face.

Status: I really hate looking for office furniture. There are no local shops worth a damn and online everything has insane freight charges. For instance, I was looking for a mail/document organizer, something with 12-24 slots just to keep mail/papers out of the way). If it's not cardboard, it's a minimum $300 plus shipping. Even cardboard is up over $100 plus shipping. I'm seriously better off continuing to buy storage totes to label and stack against every wall over the house.
Edit: Oh, and thanks so much Lowes. Tell me my item's shipped, give me a tracking number, and...no way to actually use that tracking number because there's not even a shipper listed, let alone a link to anywhere.
-
Yeah, even the most basic office furniture is overpriced. I got some of mine at a thrift store ; it was new, unused stock at a deep discount.

As a guy with a small car, the issue with thrift store furniture is that it's already assembled and needs transport home. Which is less convenient.
Oh, and it's expensive in part because wood is currently bonkers priced. Only thing worse would be made of ammo.

In my case, it was still in its original package, unassembled. But I was probably lucky that day...

None of this stuff is real wood though. It's particle board, basically compressed sawdust.

You should go into the fortune-telling business. Or become a pollster; your predictions are far more accurate than theirs.
The Delivery Distortion Field has now expanded to include grocery deliveries. This morning's delivery was somebody else's groceries. I caught the driver before he left, so hopefully it should be corrected with no further effort on my part.
