While it's possible it's unlikely if they actually bother taking security seriously, which it sounds like they might.
They didn't lock the BIOS...

(tho it is only supposed to be 5 to 15 min. I'm hitting the upper end now)
Talked, transferred, talked, on hold. At 40min now.
edit: another transfer, another hold.

Is it possible they're using one recovery key org-wide? Because I might still have admin rights on another domain box.
Given that the recovery key is autogenerated by BitLocker when you enable it, I'd be extreeeeeeeeeeemely shocked if there was any key sharing. It's not something that the user/administrator is given input into.

It's a real joy typing in those 48 numbers too. No copy/paste possible!

Meanwhile, I've filled my search history now with very incriminating hackery things.

Would have been simpler just to populate the search history with monster.com

I have a magic uitableview. If it's there, even hidden and transparent, life is fine.
If it's not, the app locks up. But not immediately. The first time the view loads, no issue. Second time? Hangs. Doesn't crash, just infinite loop somewhere.

Sounds like it's time for a clean and rebuild from zero!

Done that. It has something to do with constraints. Because AutoLayout is magic. Magic that doesn't like having dynamic numbers of elements inside a UITableViewCell (the magic one is on the interior).

Cheaper that way.

@Tsaukpaetra get a job with a contract and you might be able to afford somewhere of your own
-
After spending literally days trying to find the missing classes in my classpath, I instead found a couple dozen build.xml files that need to be run through ant (in addition to the more-than-dozen first-party projects we have). I didn't even consider that it might be a source distribution.

Important clarification for @Tsaukpaetra: that job should be the kind that pays you for working.

I prefer the kind that pays me for not working.

Using ant directly, like a bunch of cavemen? Wow. I mean, why wouldn't you just stand up a copy of, say, Nexus and push the non-public non-first-party builds there? My current project doesn't use it (because it uses very few dependencies, all of which are totally OSS) but previous projects have done that and it worked extremely well.

It's SAP and at least 4 times now, when I thought I was editing build configuration, it turned out I was editing a build artifact of a parent build process.

status Updating Visual Studio (all 3.5GB) on a laptop running on battery. Have to remember to periodically twitch the mouse so it doesn't fall asleep. I suppose I could tweak the battery settings - but the odds are statistically quite high that I would forget to restore them.
edit: Plugged in now. But I think everyone must be downloading (it's the new 16.9 release). It keeps dropping to 0K/sec.

@Tsaukpaetra you logged into the wrong account.
-
I got admin back, and now I'm exporting the Bitlocker key so I can get back in if I get locked out again.
-
@error Maybe don't disable things you're not supposed to disable this time.
-
It's weird. They granted me kinda-sorta admin. But I can run whitelisted executables. Whitelisted executables like Powershell. But somehow I can't launch any old process I want to from there... but I can launch the one that lets me run Powershell as TrustedInstaller.

If you figure it out let me know. I think one of the meta packages changed the greeted things or something.
It would appear that every one of these packages will create a non-booting Ubuntu 20 VM (running under Hyper-V in Win10)
Gave up. Created a new VM via MS's easy install. After applying updates, it still works.

Unironically
Could be because it was a new v20 system. The old one was v18 upgraded to 20 (a while ago). So slightly different lineage.

Status: How hard can it be to determine whether it's OK for me to come over, and a general timeframe for when that should occur?

Status: Is there some sort of fight (perhaps a Secret War) going on between Linux distros and the great evils of the computing world?
My dad's neighbor is I guess what you would call a "luser" in the not-Wndows world. He went to Linux years ago but is about as hapless as the average Windows user. A few months back, he was having speed problems online, so I suggested trying a different browser to see if it was just his browser causing the problem. Since he was on Firefox, my suggestion was Chrome or Brave. Nope, not compatible with his distro then and now not even offered. Then the other day he's trying to get stuff set up for a remote data entry job with a state contractor (more on that in a second). Most of the stuff was online, like Teams and Outlook, but there was an Amazon Workspace requirement. It was in his distro's repository but the installer kept 403ing. Turns out Amazon was supposedly blocking Linux users from using it now.
But back to that contracting bit. It's something for Kung Flu or Chinese Lung AIDS. And my department farmed it out to Manpower because reasons. Not only that, Manpower was insisting people buy their own laptops and headsets! Wanted Windows 10 Pro with an i5 processor and 16GB of RAM. For a four-month contract at $12 per hour. Poor guy's been out of work for at least a year and was really hoping to land some sort of income stream but these people just cut him off as soon as he couldn't buy a $1000 laptop.

Wait. Manpower employs people as independent contractors? I thought they were supposed to be a temp agency. That's really shady.

It's just a way to launder more of the state's money into the hands of middlemen who are likely located in another jurisdiction while still complying with any in-state spending rules.

Status: Happy. I just spent $35.50 on chocolate.
I have discovered that the world's best chocolate (that I have personally experienced, anyway) is certified gluten-free, so I can eat it. I just need to get a second and third job to afford it. $8.50 / 50g for their regular bars. $9.50 / 50g for their single-origin cru varieties. $18.50 / 50g for their 70% cocoa, 100% Criollo bars.

I alternate between two deodorant sticks each day. Nothing to crazy.

@Tsaukpaetra Does that mean :
- day 1: you use deodorant 1
- day 2: you use deodorant 2
- day 3: you use deodorant 1
- day 4:you use deodorant 2
- etc.
Or:
- day 1: you use deodorant 1 under the left arm, deodorant 2 under the right arm
- day 2: you use deodorant 2 under the left arm, deodorant 1 under the right arm
- day 3: you use deodorant 1 under the left arm, deodorant 2 under the right arm

- etc.
