@Tsaukpaetra Interesting. Maybe on IE they're using dirty old OL tags and on "modern" browsers they're using Angular promise callback events to make DIVs look like OLs.

You would think, but I opened it in Inspector (or whatever) and Firefox says they're just OL trags in all cases.

I feel like spending Way Too Much Money on a new PC. I should wait for the RTX 3080 Ti though.

@error And Zen 3 or at least the XT refresh of current gen.
I've also always had this problem. Well, not the "too much money" problem, but "the new shiny" is just around the corner.

XT is half-measure. Waiting for Zen 3 is absolutely worth it. And it'll be released about the same time as new GPUs, so it's not like you're going to wait forever.

Or dip into random threads that you had previously set to ignoredI have only a few such threads, and most of them are ignored for good reason. Although I think maybe one or two I ignored primarily due to the number of posts; I've occasionally thought about unignoring some of them. But not today; I really do need to do some work.

Status: I'm not sure whether I should be mad at Windows, my company's IT, or just at the world in general.
(inb4: why not
bothall?)It's like this almost all the time, independently of what I'm doing (well obviously if something else is using some CPU it's no longer the top one, and when e.g. my code is using 100% of CPU I manage to starve the antimalware and make it fall back to 0 temporarily, but otherwise it's always eating 10-20% of CPU).
The weirdest part (to me) is how can Windows Defender be using about 50% of my GPU????

Are you sure it's actually Defender and not a GPU miner that's disguising itself?
-
@Tsaukpaetra No, I'm not sure. But as we say in French, "you only lend money to rich people", and Defender is well-known for being a resource hog, so it sounds more likely that it is truly the culprit rather than assuming some malware managed to go through and masquerade as it (though that would be a great cover, for that very reason).
-
@remi said in The Official Status Thread:

I should find the post where I talked about a malware that infected WebRoot engine, so every executable scanned (read: yes, including system programs) would get infected.
That was fun to diagnose...
-
@Tsaukpaetra Anyway, if that's the case and it doesn't do anything more annoying than what Defender does every day, it's probably found the sweet spot where it can keep working for days without bothering me enough to actually track it down.
-
@remi said in The Official Status Thread:

It's for the movie-style 3D visualization where it's zapping malware inside the virtual world of your computer
-
@hungrier If only it could actually show it...
-
@remi Then it would be pegged at 100% gpu usage
