If it makes you feel better, I'm in the same boat. Except I know the exact date by which I need to find a job or my whole life, and the lives of several family members, falls apart completely.
Fucking USCIS. Why can't permanent residence be, you know, permanent?
-
@Gąska Because some people don't like immigration and do everything they can to make it harder.
-
@error Because Microsoft copies from Google now and Google is quite capable of suffocating anything and everything without anybody's help. Trying to follow that up must be like one long montage of "Simpsons did it!"

I also don't see why MS had to implement their version of OAuth2 incompatibly.
When Google "implemented" "OAuth2" for IMAP, they did so in such a way that it was literally only useful for Gmail accounts, and specifically made it so that it couldn't work anywhere else -- no way for the client to find out who the identity provider is supposed to be, no automatic registration for clients, no extensibility points and no way to compatibly add them. Just "If you see OAuth as an authentication type, send the user off to accounts.google.com (and GSuite can go piss up a tree), and make sure to register your client with us beforehand." And Thunderbird is maintained by a very large empty room (okay, there are still some maintainers, but they're not getting any juice from Mozilla anymore) so making things work with GMail is both easier and more-results-for-effort-invested than making things work with Office 365 and the Seven ADFS Servers.

:Before it was just showing the Fitbit logo with the number 100, when I plugged it in to the charger the screen turned off and nothing happens now.
:At the moment, I have it connected to the charger and pressing the button results in vibration but nothing else.
:While the device is plugged it in to the charge, press and hold the button down for 8 seconds.
:Pressing the button results in vibration, holding for eight seconds results in the vibration stopping and the screen remains blank.

And I fucking struggle to find anything to buy on the Switch.
Yeah, if only they'd come out with a Zelda game or update Mario Maker, or a good mainline Mario, or Mario Kart, or Smash Bros, or a great metroidvania like Bloodstained, or Animal Crossing, or even port some indie PC games like Don't Starve and Dungeon Keeper.
Well, until all that happens, there are just no worthwhile Switch games.
Yeah, see, Mario Odyssey was 2017. So was Mario Kart 8 (and not really a new game so much as a remake of the 2014 WiiU title). Mario Maker was last year.
Don't like 3D Zeldas. Don't like Smash Bros. Don't like Animal Crossing. There's also a shitty Contra game that instantly went to clearance.
Indie games are usually digital only. That physical release of Cuphead never happened from what I can tell. If I hadn't lucked into the announcement, I'dve missed the preorder window for Streets of Rage 4.
The library is pretty poor outside of Nintendo's stuff. So far, the non-Nintendo stuff I have is Mega Man 11, posts of old Mega Man games, ports of old Street Fighter games, Kill-la-Kill just to have a fighting game, and Terraria. What's on the horizon for Switch? Ports of old Mario games and...?
Edit:
Seriously, there isn't even a real Star Wars game on the Switch. Two digital-only ports of 2002/2003 games*, a dopey pinball cash-in, and another Lego rehash due at the end of the year.
PC lineage
1995: Dark Forces
1997: Dark Forces 2 - Jedi Knight (Dark Forces 2)
2002: Jedi Knight 2 - Jedi Outcast (Dark Forces 3)
2003: Jedi Knight - Jedi Academy (Dark Forces 4)Been playing a lot of Breath of the Wild during quarantine (after I’ve waited for years for things to get cheaper because I didn’t want to pay that much for a single game, but it never got cheaper). Awesome game.
Was at the electronics store on Friday and had a look at the games section. Didn’t end up buying anything. Mario Maker may be cool (might buy), but there’s no real game besides the user generated content. Mario Kart 8 I’ve played years ago with friends, it’s pretty old by now. “New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe” seems to be a rehash of a years old Wii U game. Probably still cool, but again, I’d be paying the price of a new game (€50+) for an old game. There’s some Secret of Mana collection (awesome game), but 50 bucks for something I played two decades ago? Also not interested in Animal Crossing, I don’t have a Tumblr gay blog. Smash is completely out of the question. Yoshi’s wooly thing looks cute, but a bit too childish. (I did love SMW2 on the SNES).
Maybe Luigi’s Mansion is good? Will have to google that. Heck, whatever, I’ll just buy the two Mario games.

Also, came downstairs, and woke my desktop up from sleep. New, shiny big monitor comes on just fine, but now the old one that's still connected is now doing the same blinky-off-and-on bullshit that I just replaced another one for, thinking it was the power supply. I wonder if this surge protector is shot or something. Gonna have to test.
-
@topspin I remember the original Luigi's Mansion got reviews to the effect of being technically solid but way too short/easy. I did buy LM3 anyway but it was a break-in-case-of-emergency-boredom sort of deal and then I lost it.

Yeah. I turned on my MacBook to update some things around 9a yesterday. It finally because usable around 6p. (xcode and OS update)
-
@e4tmyl33t Ok, I have tried every combination of AC adapter, surge protector, old monitor, and display cable (both a DP>HDMI and a straight HDMI) and no matter what combination I have them in, it does this.
If there's no video signal, the monitor stays on in its blank-screen mode just fine.
As soon as I start sending it a video signal, the picture will appear for half a second and then the display will power off and power back on, repeating indefinitely.
I find it suspect that the second screen just mysteriously developed the same problem the instant I got my new screen to replace the first one that was having this issue.

I'm glad I turned in my school MacBook and iPad. No more XCode for me (at least unless I get another job involving them). I intentionally didn't upgrade to the latest OS version because it broke so many things for many people. I'd have done it if I were keeping the device, but when I knew I was giving it back at the end of the school year, no point.
-
@e4tmyl33t Ok, what the hell. After getting annoyed at it blinking at me for a while, tried plugging into the motherboard's video sockets (both DP and HDMI). Neither worked, since I'm betting they're disabled when a GPU is in. Ok, fine. Plug it into DP port #3 on the GPU again...and it's fine. Move it back to DP#2 (the one it was JUST having issues on) and...it's fine.
However, I'm betting if I let the machine turn the displays off again it'll start right back up.
The fuck is going on with these screens?

I dunno. I put everything back on the original surge protector and powered the machine back up, screen is still fine. As far as I can tell, it only starts happening after Windows locks and lets the displays time out, but then it persists through hardware swaps, cable swaps, and everything until it randomly doesn't again. Makes me wonder if there was actually anything wrong with the screen I replaced...(not that I really mind replacing it, since this new monitor is much nicer, but if it IS functional, once I replace my desk that means I can have 3 screens instead of 2...)
