🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD

It also looks like the speedometer in the apple picture is tilted, and if you look closely you can see what appears to be another set of numbers on the inside.
So, yeah, not only is this person driving 70mph (or maybe 70kph) one-handed, they are also driving one-handed while eating, and then they're using the hand they're not eating with to take a picture.
That's your typical Apple owner for you.
-
Then they're using the hand they're not eating with to take a pictur
"Ok Glass, take picture"
-
Thanks, I just got a mental image of someone driving 70mph hunched over with an apple in one hand and their face directly in front of the steering wheel.

50% of Canadians are below average.
-
Why would the average IQ in Canada be one point lower than the rest of the world?
@Lorne_Kates, have you been murdering scientists again?
-
@Lorne_Kates, have you been murdering scientists again?
Only trannies with @Polygeekery
-
And what about the trannies in my basement! They're not dead yet but one day they will be. Don't they count or do we only care about dead trannies now.
-
They're not dead yet but one day they will be.
As long as you don't insult them they should be fine.
-
Bad idea: Using this stock photo on your website homepage:
-
I strangely don't have any issue with this ... maybe Willy Dick has.

Why would the average IQ in Canada be one point lower than the rest of the world?
William Shatner moved to the US.

There was an old joke from around where I grew up: If southwest Iowa were to break free and join northwest Missouri, the average IQ of both states would plummet.

Apparently, the founders of Peeple are doubling down on stupid.and have now hired a CTO.
Ellen Pao?
-
Notice the car is running at 70 mph...
It could just be on the test stand showing off how little nitrogen oxides, soot, aromates, etc. it exhausts.
-
Well it's clearly outside, and judging by what little you can see of the background, it looks like the photo was taken on an interstate highway.
-
I admit most stands I know are in Germany, and there are some just with a roof over it and no wall on the front and the rear. Don't know how to tell apart a highway from a backyard (or however you call that there) either.
-
Oh, you mean in Germany they actually have those somewhere other than an auto shop? I don't think I've ever seen one here besides in an auto shop licensed to do inspections. No one in America wants to know how much our vehicles pollute the environment.
-
You're too young to remember what real pollution was.
-
-
Plus the Facebook post is "Look, I'm eating an apple? What stuff do you eat?".
-
Like it's Instagram or some shit. But that's just the cherry on top of all of the Darwin-Award-material that is everything else wrong with that picture.
-
Yes?
Cars today are really clean. That's quite real.
-
By comparison, sure. There's also a lot more of them, though.
-
Exactly, and the air is still so much cleaner!
-
Than when? And where the fuck do you live?
-
Than when?
Than it was in, say, the early 70's, where there hardly any emission controls. I say hardly any because PCV dates to as early as 1961 in California, and the first nationwide tailpipe emission limits to 1968, but the standards were still pretty lax compared to current standards. Catalytic converters didn't come into general use until 1975.
-
I have many awful memories of LA in the 70s and 80s. The air today is so much cleaner.
You talk like you live in Mexico City or Beijing or something. I suppose those are pretty awful.
-
I was talking to a guy who was surprised my pre-emissions diesel (no emissions controls whatsoever! Not even a cat!) is so clean it can't pump out clouds of black smoke.
-
Sounds like a challenge! A few tweaks and flooring it should fix that up real quick!
-
If there's a lot of fuel in your exhaust, you're wasting fuel.
-

I have some pretty awful memories of the 70s, too. Junior high and high school was not my favorite time of life. The air today is so much cleaner.
I haven't spent much time in LA in years, so I'm not sure what it's like now, but I remember driving home from college in the 80s. If I happened to be driving in the day time, as I went through Simi Valley, I'd see a brown wall of smog hanging over the Santa Susana Mountains in front of me.
-
You can often see bad stuff against mountains. It naturally accumulates there. I remember it being painful to breathe before. Nothing like that now.

May actually be an evil idea; they're still just trying to research them so we haven't had the
displeasure of seeing them put to use for anything yet, that I know of.
Filed Under: I wouldn't touch that with a 39-and-a-half-foot pole, because the explosion still might kill me.

-
What's wrong with that appliance? Doesn't it cook and clean? It's even done up in a nice dress for showing off.
-

Sure it can, haven't you heard of "rolling coal"? Just needs a bit of work and a lot of redneck.
-
You're looking for an example of bad 1970s kitchen appliances, and you didn't find avacado-colored ones?
Freak.
Those ones are positively tasteful by 1970s standards.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeoJYhLDlPs
Avacado is "murder your pregnant wife" bad.
-

Of course I have. But it's kind of a Dodge thing, most of us Chevy guys are anti-rolling-coal.
Imagine if someone showed up here and starting talking about how great Lotus Notes is and stuff. That's what happens to the Chevy truck forums anytime someone shows up asking how to make his Chevy roll coal.
-
I also remember the 70s, but only because I'm the Kwizatz Haderach.
-
Too bad Lotus makes no diesel cars ...
-
Why would the average IQ in Canada be one point lower than the rest of the world?
@Lorne_Kates, have you been murdering scientists again?
No, that would be the Harper government.
-
In this series the actress was pregnant, the characters she played weren't. Just like Peter Falk's lazy eye played one of Columbo's good eyes.
-

Well in that particular skit it wouldn't have mattered if the character were actually pregnant. What the fuck ever.
Just like Peter Falk's lazy eye played one of Columbo's good eyes.
Just like the fat alcoholic George Reeves played an in-shape and sober Superman!!!
-
I think he inspired Adam West's Batman. I've a soft spot for Reeves' Superman, it was a staple of my youth. Reruns of course, I don't have a quite yet.

Me too. Nick at Night was awesome.
I liked Mister Ed too. And the live action Dennis the Menace was pretty cool.

I'm not sure we got those here (UK). Commencing dump:
Land of the Giants, The Munsters, Addams Family, Gentle Ben, the A Team, The Amazing Spiderman (TV series), Get Smart, The Man from UNCLE. All magic for a kid.
Nostalgia ain't what it used to be.
-
Land of the Giants,
TNT and/or TBS used to show that all the time, for some reason.
I always thought it would have been fun to work on that show's prop department. "Ok, for episode 27, we need a 12' tall pencil and three 5' paperclips. Try painting that 55-gallon drum as an eraser."
Awesome. Discourse apparently supports .webp images in the preview but not in the actual post. I LOVE IT.
