No need! I haven't broken the 5k count yet, really don't want to accelerate the Jokes counter rate...

Ginger beer regulations.

Is ginger ale OK to vacuum?
Vacuuming any carbonated drink is going to pull all the CO2 right out of it, and after that you've just got ginger flavoured water.

Even with several of them, the capacity would be much smaller than a laptop SSD
You can get 128 and 256-gig cards now, so that's potentially a 2.5TB disk. If you have some, hm, $1000-$2000 to spend...
Save for the idiotic placement (seriously, I'm pretty sure you can't insert a card in the top row), it's a workable enough idea. I've replaced my iPod HDD with something similar:
Works pretty well (aside from me having to replace the screen twice, since the iPod is notoriously difficult to pry open, and the screen breaks in half if you so much as look at it funny. Also, fuck ZIF connectors with a pointed stick). Mine has two slots, even, so I can expand from 128gb to 256gb if I ever feel like it.

I take revenge on the Pythonites by closing the scopes with
pass
! def foo(): if bar(): baz(); pass; pass;
And apparently by placing semicolons at the end of each statement. That was actually unintentional, only noticed it after writing the code.

@r10pez10 Let's get doc.exe and sell subdomains to that!

@r10pez10 As your screenshots note, there are existing TLDs (notably

Obviously the staffers have never used Chrome or Edge, both of which search instead of prepending
http://
.I think the problem of user confusion would be serious because of that. Imagine a site named, say, oracle.exe:
- So you type "oracle.exe" into Chrome/Edge and it presents a search from Google/Bing.
- The top entry on the list is oracle.exe. But not
http://oracle.exe/
but a document namedoracle.exe
, made by hacker Josev, onhttp://rwidlqjsp.ru/oracle.exe
. - I'll leave you to imagine what happens next...
-
@CoyneTheDup said in 🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD:

If it's a valid domain name (not necessarily one that exists) it will go there instead of searching.
-
@ben_lubar Only if it's on a known TLD. It'll search for
myvm
, and only go there if I typemyvm.country-code.company.com
-
@ben_lubar also .ps
-
@PleegWat if you type http://myvm/, does it go there, or is myvm only available as a subdomain?
-
@ben_lubar said in 🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD:
does it go there
It tries.
I've also found that when searching, sometimes it does both: if I type
searchterm
andhttp://searchterm
resolves, it'll load the search page, and a moment later ask "Did you mean to go to http://searchterm/?" offering me a link.

And remember: hackers will be actively trying to exploit the situation.
To add complexity: I tried searching
tqnprstnf.com
, which did in fact try to route me tohttp://tqnprstnf.com
. But of course that doesn't exist and so my ISP (BrightHouse) forced me to a DNS error page. Which leaves yet another exposure.I think it's a bad idea, to do something like this and wait to see what exploits the hackers in Elbonia can find. I was exploring two browsers, but how many are there again? And how many web services (http, smtp, ftp, ...)? It's stupid to assume a problem won't exist in any of those that can be exploited; it's outright inviting trouble.

Long as I'm not on VPN, it will. VPN uses a different search path.

Thank you for reminding me why I use Firefox with separate address- and search- bars, and
browser.fixup.alternate.enabled
andkeyword.enabled
set tofalse
.(got tired of the redirects to localhost.com)

And why I always type '?' first in the rare instances when I search from Chrome's address-bar
(well, why I press Ctrl+K, tbh)

Making the best armor in Guild Wars 2 by upgrading the worst ingredients
For example, making one pair of cloth pants requires:
- Coins: 3g55s44c
- Piles of Bloodstone Dust: 200
- Dragonite Ore: 200
- Empyreal Fragments: 200
- Globs of @darkmatter: 5
- Globs of Ectoplasm: 16
All seems normal so far, right? Now let's look at the rest of the ingredients:
- Scraps of Jute Cloth: 4,520,544
- Rawhide Leather Sections: 2,455,030
- Piles of Glittering Dust: 7,348,016
- Vials of Weak Blood, Bone Chips, Tiny Claws, Tiny Fangs, Tiny Scales, Tiny Totems, or Tiny Venom Sacs: 301,409
- Karma: 25,200
- Spirit Shards: 73,672
It gives
newmeaning to the phrase "I tried to make some pants but ended up causing a mass extinction event".

As long as it actually uninstalls everything too... I've done the uninstall-old-version-before-install-new-version - that worked well - but I didn't verify it really cleaned things up... (but, yeah, the most current incarnation is much nicer - once they get that download-everything-first option added. I don't need to re-download every time for all my machines...)

So frustrating! Yes, Firefox, I did want to go to http://jenkins/, just like I did this morning, yesterday, all last week, every day for the past few years. Searching for "jenkins" isn't useful, isn't what I want and isn't what I told you to do! Do what I tell you!

To be fair, why the hell are you querying the single search phrase so much? Are you like those computer inept people who instead of typing google.com (or jenkins.io) type "google" in the omnibar, then click the link on the result page?
Feature request: after typing the same search phrase 10 times, automatically redirect to the most frequently chosen Google result.

Go to
about:config
, search for "fixup".Create a new boolean preference named
browser.fixup.domainwhitelist.jenkins
, set it totrue
.While you're there you may want to set
browser.fixup.alternate.enabled
tofalse
andbrowser.fixup.dns_first_for_single_words
totrue
. Doing this probably makes the previous step unnecessary, as a matter of fact.

No, I'm one of those computer-savvy (sometimes) people who types what they want and expects to get it. I typed "jenkins", I want jenkins. Not jenkins.io, not a google search for jenkins, just jenkins. "jenkins" is the hostname of our local jenkins install. "jenkins" resolves as a hostname. I don't want to have to type "jenkins.not.telling.you.my.domain". This is not an uncommon configuration, it used to work, Firefox broke it some time ago.
-
@another_sam ah okay, read that backwards as you trying to search and FF redirecting you to http://jenkins.
In that case, I think actually typing in http://jenkins should work.
