@boomzilla What the hell is the park supposed to do? Driving your car through the park where the tigers live is what people want to do. If you exit your car now you're in with the tigers.
Ditto people who climb into tiger enclosures. If you fell, sure, but who scales a wall accidentally?
Probably my inner libertarian but you cannot prevent people from doing dumb things. It's literally impossible. Help them not do dumb things, sure, but at a certain point you have to give up.
-
@AyGeePlus I think they should weld the doors closed.

Meh...my inner TDWTF moderator is happy to sit back and laugh at the consequences of their bad ideas.
-
@AyGeePlus ....not have predators?

It's a tiger park. People come to look at tigers.

Idiots decide to help their "buddy" the snake catch a frog. But once it does, they are like "Oh noes, poor little froggy. We need to save it."
Watch the linked video for full-on blast of stupidity.
-
@Boner That looks fake as hell. Also, is he driving at the same time?
-
@coldandtired I don't think it's a "proper" gun, maybe a starter pistol. I think he's in the back.
I hope he achived his goal of showing the world what a
fucking moronbadass he is.

@boomzilla I see the British military recruits only the best and brightest.

Unfortunately, when personnel tried to put out the fire, sources said the base’s fire hoses had been shut off due to fears over Legionnaires disease following an outbreak on the base in January.
Yes. Instead of making sure that the disease is gone (not that hard) you shut off the fire hoses for six months.
-
@Rhywden Were they drinking out of the fire hoses?
That makes so little sense it's actually hurting my head.
EDIT: almost as inexplicable is this image:
... wat?
"Here, have a wine and cheese platter while you tackle that fire."

The fire was in the mess (apparently? though why does it have a pool?), so maybe someone was in the middle of eating when the alarm went off and decided that he was not going to go hungry because of two idiots?
-
@boomzilla Is that the kind of tray they serve ARMY meals on?
I like the detail that the the fire was finally put out by pumping water from the swimming pool-- presumably the same swimming pool the duel took place in originally.
@boomzilla said in 🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD:

I get the sense the article was referring to the entire building as "the mess". Which might be the British thing. Maybe they use the term "mess hall" to refer to their entire recreational facility?
-
@blakeyrat It would be fair to say that the entire quarters would be referred to as "the mess" in an informal context. Beside, do not forget we are dealing with "headlines" - of the news variety specifically. Entities that have little relationship to content at the best of times, and quite often have no relationship to the language that they are written in :)

Legionella spreads through people breathing in small droplets of water. So it does make a modicum of sense. Of course, a fire is usually a worse problem than Legionella (and a more immediate one to boot).

That's for sure. I especially like how she was meowing along with the frog until she realized the frog was going to be lunch.
What did you think was going to happen, lady? The frog would jump into an oven and cut itself up into fun-sized snake snacks?
-
@FrostCat Which predators should they get rid of, the cats outside the cars or the shitheads inside them?
-
@blakeyrat said in 🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD:

Dude, it's Brits. They probably ARE holding a teacup, pinky out, in one hand, while hosing off the building in the other.
-
@ScholRLEA Probably not the ones that are paying money to see the others.
But what i meant was that the one wildlife preserve I ever went to that let people drive through more or less unsupervised ONLY had relatively harmless animals like deer in the parts you could drive through. And by "unsupervised" I only mean you didn't have a tour guide with you in your car--there were employees at large in the area.

Bad Idea:
Sitting out of the bad idea thread for a few months, and reading through all 7000 posts you missed in about two weeks.
-
@mrguyorama Nonsense! I'm sure I speak for everyone in the thread when I say we all loved getting all those upvote notifications.
-
@FrostCat I had A LOT of opinions to catch up with

bad idea:
-
@mrguyorama LOL! It'll sound like a gunshot because it IS one. They basically use .22 short blanks.
-
-
@FrostCat Yeah I'm really not excited. I am only coming in after lunch because I have an interview somewhere, but still
-
@mrguyorama Furthermore, what kind of pansies are they issuing these trigger warnings to? It's not as if this is a new thing--nailguns have been around for decades! They used one in I think it was Lethal Weapon 2 to kill a bad guy.
-
@FrostCat This construction is quite literally in the middle of a massive office. There are quite a few of us that aren't entirely used to gunshots going off
-

Having heard nailguns and real guns, I'd categorize the former as "more like a loud ker-CHUNK".
-
@FrostCat they were referring to concrete nail guns, not the ordinary ones capable of driving nails into relatively soft stuff like wood or human tissue.
-
@anotherusername Still, it's a .22 short. You know what they say about those? "If you shoot someone with that and he notices, he's going to be annoyed."
-
@FrostCat check your caliber privilege

Just watched some Youtube videos using this type of nail gun. Not very exciting :) Also: Not very loud.
-
Pretty much all of the cases in this playlist. Not so sure about the rather callous 'nasty or nice' gag, either, but it is at least funny... the first two or three times...

Nail guns are common, pyrotechnic nail guns not so much so some people wouldn't be familiar with them. They're also much louder than pneumatic or electric guns.
If the warning hadn't been given, the next post in this very thread would be the news article written about the ensuing incident, with twenty armed cops turning up to investigate "gunshots" that turn out to be nail guns.
