I mean, Davis is schizophrenic, not MPD.

Compiling and even launching the IDE takes a fraction of the time.
If you're doing a lot of compiling, having enough RAM so your files are cached will solve a lot of this.

I've never had problems using Acronis to clone a mechanical disk over to an SSD.

Even if it's smaller? Smaller drives usually cause issues IIRC.
-
@sloosecannon As long as the SSD is large enough to contain the data from HDD, yes it works fine. It's pretty smart about automatically resizing partitions and all that jazz. Just yesterday I helped a coworker upgrade from a 500 GB HDD to a 250 GB SSD using Acronis. Took a couple hours to copy because the source HDD was crapping out, but otherwise worked perfectly. Now the PC is like 1000x faster.

Huh. Good to know.

Jesus, that's an expensive casual day
When we have dress down days, it's £1 to charity.
Except we now have dress down every Friday, and just pay £2 on the last Friday of each month

@Fox But why not just use PuTTY or KiTTY :/
Because SSH Secure Shell Client has more features and customization than PuTTY and I've never used KiTTY and SSC is installed on every computer on campus if I need to use one while my Surface is charging or something.

Status: My Bluetooth headset has finally met its end. The left speaker doesn't work at all, the right one is rather quiet.
Farewell, old friend. I will never have another one as good as you...
No, I'm serious, every other Bluetooth headset I tried has absolute shit sound. The replacement one I got looks freaking identical but the sound is crap.
-
@Onyx
If you ship the replacement headset and $10,000, we will run it through our patented AAA process (audiophile awakening augmentation) and return the headset to you with improved sound quality. So good it'll be like you were at the front row of the concert.
-
@izzion I'm not even being picky, really. The sound on these is muffled and the bass sucks. They are good for phone purposes, but the rest like you just added A2DP to one of those dinky little mono handsfree things you bought at a dollar store.

If you just want the headers for a script, it's way better than writing your own imap client.

Something (BitDefender?) actually announces it. With a voice. So your computer randomly starts talking to you...

Oh is it Avast? Whoever came up with that needs to be launched out of a speaker.

@sloosecannon It's low on resource use and works well though. The only two annoyances I ever had with it were the sounds and the freaking "Mail shield" installing its own certificates so my mail client was throwing a (justified) hissy fit every now and then. After I neutered both I'm pretty happy with it.

Yeah, IIRC they do provide an option to change the sound that plays. So there's that.

Still, I shouldn't have really had that
pizzaburger.FTFM. Went to a neighborhood near I used to live to look at a house for rent. My son insisted on stopping at a big chain fast food place because one of his high school buddies works there, and he knew that his friend was at work at the time. Turns out another friend works there, too, and they're starting a D&D game, which they invited him to join. Actually buying food there, though, was not appreciated by my stomach.

Status: Why does it take 20 minutes for the build to get to the point where the compiler throws a hissy fit about a missing include file? There are not one, not two, but three copies of the freaking file in the code base; why can't the bloody compiler find at least one of them?
-
@HardwareGeek said in The Official Status Thread:

Because
make
got lost in the directory tree?

@Tsaukpaetra said in The Official Status Thread:

Makefile
doesn't add the right-I dir
to the list. Easy to fix, but which of the three versions should I use? The code base contains files for different but related purposes. All three are probably identical; one is clearly for a different thing than I'm trying to do right now, but which of the other two is the right one? How much does it really matter?

It causes a bell to ring in that mode, which is funny.
Been a while now, though. It annoyed me eventually, once the novelty wore off.
