@Weng MEIN GOTT WE HAD 2 PEOPLE GOLF PAR OR BELOW THIS WEEK.
That's never even come close to happening.

Trophy says on it "KINDA NOT THE WORST AT MINIATURE GOLF"

@Weng
We had a Putt Putt team match play tournament at my work this summer. My team had two players record 40+ holes in 1 or 2 (out of 54 holes played) en route to the win. I was kind of unhappy with my last round because I only had 9 pars (and 5 aces)
-
@izzion You guys must be either way too serious, drink way less alcohol before the games, or your courses are WAY easier.
We are at 79 holes so far, and the total scores versus par for the players who have made every game are:
41, 99, 88.I am the 99 over par.
-
@Weng
I can neither confirm nor deny whether I tryharded way too much with multiple practice rounds before each round of the tournament. There may have been actual money on the line in addition to office bragging rights.

STATUS:
71 gigs of logs. Because someone had a broken Minecraft installation that was spewing stack traces.
GREAT.
-
@izzion We prevent this by literally not deciding where we're going to play until the day of.
Of course, we are now down to exactly 1 unplayed course on the "correct" side of the Susquehanna River, so everyone kind of knows this week's.
It's unclear if we're going to switch to the other side of the river. We'd have to change to playing on weekends.

Have you never heard of log rotation?
-
@ben_lubar
It's a Microsoft product. It dutifully defaults to rotating log files every day and keeping them around to help sell larger hard drives.

I have. Apparently the creators of Minecraft haven't.
Although, they probably weren't expecting a stack trace every 10 seconds or so for several days. So...

-
@sloosecannon I just wrote a bash script to remove logs after a week on my server and made it a cron job.

Status: the original author of this IRC library made it ultra-easy to enable SSL (as it should be). Why they couldn't also have implemented socket disconnect handling as well...

Yeah. Generous definition of "isn't broken"

@sloosecannon If that isn't broken, then I'd like to know what broken is.

That's actually almost 40% longer than my startup time.

Me: You should consider using virtualenv in the future
Idiot: Tried it, but then I'm limited only to python. As soon as you try something more complicated, virtualenv is outThe worst thing with this guy is, he always has some convoluted reason for doing the stupid things he does. And it usually sounds just informed enough to give him the benefit of the doubt.
-
@cartman82 Wait... I'm no fan of Python, but surely it's good enough for a scraper bot? What "more complicated" stuff is he talking about? I mean, Python isn't lacking features, and if he's worried about its performance already, why did he even start with it and is already planning a port to C++ or whatever?

Who knows. This guy isn't exactly detail oriented.
Also, he has almost no reading comprehension to speak off. Typical complaint coming from him is: "It doesn't work". If you get some kind of error output, it's just the last line from the make output. He has no concept of scrolling up the actual C error that caused the failure.
He probably tried using virtualenv once, got "some error", and reverted back to
pip install

What on earth was he thinking of using instead? Brainfuck isn't really suited to heavy network programming or text processing.

It's on, it prints. But I'm buggered if I can find it in any of the buildings. If this doesn't work I'm going to have to sniff it out by MAC address and the switch routing tables.

I love it when websites use Flash to reinvent HTML.
No, not HTML5.
HTML.Like, literally, everything this piece of excrement does can be replicated with IE6-era HTML and JS.

He might mean "abandoned" as in "they've abandoned improving it". Because it is very basic functionality...

I had to re-add them.

They haven't updated it in like a year. Like usual, MS is off chasing a new shiny, while the last year's shiny slowly rots away.
Over the following years expect to see the spaces button become optional, then get hidden behind increasingly obscure checkboxes, then go the way of gadgets.

@cartman82 Waht features is it missing? Genuine question, I've used it about as much as Spaces (i.e. preview build, "ooh, what's this? Cool. Can't think why I'd use it") so have no real idea what you'd want out of virtual desktops
Edit: Looks like it got some improvement:
http://www.howtogeek.com/248177/whats-new-in-windows-10s-anniversary-update/
You can now pin windows in the Task View interface, making them always appear on every virtual desktop instead of a single virtual desktop. Right-click a window in the Task View interface and select “Show this window on all desktops” to pin it. For example, you may want to pin a messaging or music application to all desktops for easy access.
-
@Jaloopa Keyboard bindings. Clear indicator which window is where. Quick way to switch between desktops. Drag windows between desktops....
Pretty much anything but the very basics for the initial prototype version.
