There is one Micro B port for charging and for connecting to a host machine, and that can't be switched to Host mode (AFAICT, don't have necessary access to try).
In fact, besides said USB port, the only other thing you can plug in is headphones.
-
@Tsaukpaetra I use all three of Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive. Only Google Drive had amnesia, thankfully.
-
Okay so it turns out I have to install my AMD display drivers again. Explains the graphical oddities in Chrome...
-
Anniversary update looks good so far. A few drivers were installed again and it reinstalled a few stupid apps I don't need, but the new features look good. The only annoying thing is that the only way to disable Cortana web search in the new version is via a group policy, and of course Windows didn't set that to match my previous settings. Nice try, Microsoft.

Wat.
Forget that, I'm sticking to my LTSB version. Sure, it doesn't have some bells and whistles (Why wants the Start Menu's Context Menu to be touch-friendly anyways?), but really?
Good grief...
-
@Tsaukpaetra said in WTF is happening with Windows 10? And nothing else:
Wat.
Well, they already did the same with OneDrive. Yes, it's a really shitty move, and yes, they want to force normal users (who don't have the Pro version) to use all their online services, apparently.
They will have to pay a lot of $$$ in the EU for that bullshit.

that allows you to block an update...
"Temporarily".
Whatever that means.

Can't get to the article, but am I assuming correctly it has to do with servers 401-ing for NTLM authentication despite not being in the domain?
-
@LB_ And it looks like only Pro users can apply the fix - since Home users can't modify group policy.
@Tsaukpaetra "In order to prevent Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer from leaking your account credentials, you need to enable a particular policy on the computer called Network security: Restrict NTLM: Outgoing NTLM traffic to remote servers. This policy will prevent Windows from sending credentials to remote servers when accessing a SMB share. "

That's frickin hilarious that I can guess the vulnerability with almost no context...

Why is the anniversary update being talked about as it was the work of lucifer itself?
I updated ... works the same as before.

I don't know. If you were already on a "faster ring" or whatever, nothing should be new, in theory...
-
@Tsaukpaetra I am on the standard updates, as my desktop is technically a work machine.
-
Random Question, how do you get rid of the action centre it is fucking useless.

I heard you can Turn System Icons On Or Off, but since I'm not on a newer version, YMMV.
-
@Tsaukpaetra Thank you very much.

There is a registry hack floating around for Home users.

How is it useless? Finally we have a way to view missed notifications! I've been wanting that ability for years.

Only half the applications I use know how to use it properly and those that do are Messenger via facebook. Also There is some stupid bug between outlook and mail where I get duplicated notifications for the same mail.
TBH it is like the last place I look when looking for updates.
BTW I think Macs had Growl notifications back in the time of OSX 10.4 and they didn't work that well either if memory serves me correctly (I get out my old iBook for a laugh).

FTFY. I now either get no notifications there (because, natch, the app doesn't support it) or get spammed (because certain apps like to show the latest thing that happens in a notification, which gets sucked up into the Action Center because I didn't interact with it).
-
@LB_ said in WTF is happening with Windows 10? And nothing else:

Maybe. It seems like it may actually work since the anniversary update, but before that, IME, the only notifications that persisted were about new email. Thanks, I can see those in my Inbox. Stuff that would have been actually useful to know, like "I'm going to reboot because raisins," vanished without a trace.
Edit: Come to think of it, it still doesn't work right. I remember getting a notification this morning about an impending password expiration, but there's no sign of it in Action Center.

Those immediately get black-listed. Fucking skype. And Feedback.

Much better!

Is there a way to keep the action center but move the clock back to its rightful rightmost place?
-
@marczellm Yes but it involves praying to
AllahSatan fives times a day while facing towards Redmond.

Why do you have both Outlook and Mail? Why not turn off notifications for one or both?

Don't you have that enterprise thing that bypasses Windows Update?

Get a second monitor and then don't look at the primary one
-

TBH, I don't know. I have Win10 Enterprise, but updates are configured however IT configured them; I haven't even looked at the configuration, much less messed with it.

Nope. "Available updates will be downloaded and installed automatically, except over metered connections (where charges may apply)."

I KNEW there was something off about my taskbar, and now that you've pointed it out I can't stop noticing it.

There are also things that I like. For example, when connecting via remote desktop, the power button icon in the start menu now shows "Sleep", "Shutdown" and "Restart" options in additonal to "Disconnect". No longer need to run "shutdown -s/r" in elevated command prompt manually.
It would be better if they also add "Logout" option to the button though, as sometimes remote desktop will leave the screen resolution in the last RDP session when doing console login. Logging out and log back in would fix that.

User icon in the top of the start menu to lock log off, or switch users.
Also, the Windows Security screen allowed you to shutdown and reboot prior to 10 as well.

@bb36e If you try to do shutdown when remote desktop from a phone, see how funny the next boot selection screen's resolution would be. :P
The UEFI remembers!

?Yeah ... no idea ... it has always been like that for me

@Luhmann you don't have Anniversary Update yet

-
@bb36e I fixed it by hiding the text box button. Oh well. I'm not sure how this bug escaped testing, but maybe they'll fix it next year.
-
@LB_ said in WTF is happening with Windows 10? And nothing else:

Oooh, does that mean the clock is now shown on all displays?
-
@JBert Yes. Now you can see what time it is while playing a fullscreen game that refuses to go fullscreen on any screen but your primary screen.
-
@LB_ (Psst: the primary taskbar doesn't have to be on the primary display. You can unlock it and drag it to whatever display you like.)
Your captions should say "primary taskbar" and "other taskbars". The primaries are only together by default.
-
@blakeyrat Can't do that when you want windows only shown on the taskbar whose display they are on. To change settings and then move the taskbar is more effort than just opening a clock window and dragging it to another screen.
-
@Lorne-Kates Exception: Sandboxes in multi tenant systems. Relative path to that tenant's root for display. Full path available for copypasta.
-
@LB_ FINALLY. I don't wear my hubglo around the house that often, this is important for a G-star like myself.

So don't do that then.
