This bad idea was making a mod do work over a bunch of insults

You've demonstrated your lack of knowledge of motor vehicles and resistance to learning about them before, but here we go: 2m is quite high. Nothing you would call a car is 2m high. SUVs aren't 2m high. 4WD utes and wagons aren't usually 2m high without lifting modifications like suspension, tyres, body lift, etc, or roof racks installed. Mine has both a suspension lift and larger than standard tyres and it's not 2m high.
But even then, given 2m high vehicles might occasionally be encountered, you don't think that maybe the guys in charge of this have thought about that? Can you, not even being an expert in the field, not envisage some kind of warning system to avoid such collisions? Or several such systems?

There's a certain bridge that's ever so slightly lower than the average π, yet it seems no amount of warning will prevent drivers from plowing right into it.

My minivan is 1.6m high you stupid tool. People routinely put things in and on cars, minivans, pickup trucks, and the like, that would go over 2m. Fuck, you probably don't believe in that 11'6" bridge, but there's 3 tall king-cab pickup trucks in my parking lot that are probably 2m high.
Why don't you shut your stupid mouth if you don't know what you're talking about?

I get that you're too much of a coward and would rather spend $70 getting your car towed a mile than drive it on a slow road on a mildly damaged wheel, but that doesn't mean you should keep stalking me.

Shit, Interstate 93, going into a tunnel in Boston, has a place that is barely high enough for regular 18-wheelers---this is, remember, a major metropolis we're talking about--and yet every year a bunch of trucks manage to peel their tops off like the 11'6" bridge, but Vendetta Sam thinks the Chinese have invented the New Soviet Man who won't do it.

In The Netherlands we have a significant number of tunnels, commonly under waterways. In a well-known case, the new Coentunnel has a clearance of 4m18.
Do you want to know how often it is automatically closed because a truck exceeding that height is about to enter it?
150 times a month, on average.

Speaking of trucks getting stuck ... this morning I got stuck in a traffic jam while cops where guiding out a truck who got stuck here
The gate is just tall enough to let a normal height bus through.

@Luhmann All of which goes to prove that, wherever you are in the world, no sign will actually make a trucker pay attention and avoid damaging his livelihood (), no matter how much it is in in his interest to do so.

Doesn't matter--Dolores Umbridge thinks the Chinese have a foolproof system!
Remember, this is the guy who wet his pants and thinks I'm crazy or something because I once drove my car about 2 miles in city traffic with a tire that had begun to separate it's tread, because apparently at 40mph it might suddenly EXPLODE, flipping my car onto 17 other ones and killing 232 people and causing a fire that collapsed all the buildings in a 6-block radius. Or so I have to assume considering the way he's following me around looking for excuses to insult me.
-
@dkf said in βπ THE BAD IDEAS THREAD:

To be fair, the I-9
83 tunnel I mentioned upthread supposedly has a lot of the blockages caused by people driving moving vans, not professional truckers, although I'd never personally seen anything but an 18-wheeler hit it.

And you're the one who keeps bringing up how horribly, horribly dangerous it is, so I have no choice but to assume you do think the super-explosion scenario I outlined above is likely to happen the microsecond after a tire starts to delaminate. Because otherwise, you're just an asshole for bringing it up again and again, especially when nothing happened because, responsibly, I got the tire fixed as soon as practical!

The risk of the tire coming apart in the 2-3 miles I drove it was negligible, considering it had just started. If that's too much risk for your delicate constitution, feel free to withdraw to the nearest fainting couch, Buttercup.

Right, in your pansy world I should pay a bunch of money for a needless tow.
Tell me, O feverish brow, what do you think the worst thing that was likely to happen if the tire DID delaminate all the way, on the max-40mph but mostly half that speed street I was on?
Oh yes, I'd need to pull over and either change the tire or call a towtruck. But instead, you spend 6 months gratuituously and wrongly insulting me completely out of the blue. You're a bigger asshole than @blakeyrat, stalker.

@FrostCat said in βπ THE BAD IDEAS THREAD:

@FrostCat said in βπ THE BAD IDEAS THREAD:

Nuclear war. Attack by aggressive technologically advanced aliens. Abduction and anal probing by friendly technologically advanced aliens. Earth-killing asteroid impact. A bus flipping over 17 cars, killing 232 people and causing a fire that collapses all the buildings in a 5-block radius. 6 blocks is preposterous.

Oh, you're going to start in now, too? Let me rehash all the stuff I said at the time, but which Dolores is too much of an anti-American bigot or whatever to admit has relevance. All this tiny amount of driving took place on city streets where I never got above 40mph, and mostly not above 25mph. At that speed, even if the tire completely delaminated suddenly or I hit a nail causing it to go flat immediately or whatever, all that would happen is I would pull over and either put on the spare or call a tow truck if there was something wrong with the spare. I've actually had a sudden flat at 40mph 3 times already in 25 years of driving, so--shockingly--I know what to do in the likely-worst-case scenario. Therefore, yes, in my relatively expert, or at least advanced, opinion, there was no significant likelihood of any significant harm happening in the short distance I drove the car. You may feel free to feel different. Safety Sam the fucktard/bigot can feel free to keep stalking me around the forum if it makes him feel less inadequate or whatever his fucking problem is, but I'm done arguing with him about it except to point out that the Safety Nazi simultaneously thinks that the Chinese stilt train is going to be completely safe from any possible accident, which is incoherent even for him.

That's a defensible argument. The statement I quoted made it sound like the fact nothing happened proved nothing was likely to happen.

@Jaloopa said in βπ THE BAD IDEAS THREAD:

You should've used "post hoc ergo propter hoc" instead. But I was just saying it that way for the lulz. But again, practically speaking, there was no significant likelihood of a real problem. As I said back when this happened, I never would've taken the car on a highway with the tire like that, or driven 40 miles to get a new tire. But I live really close to work and to the tire place, so I judged that even if the tire DID completely fail, it wasn't likely to do more than cause a small traffic jam, and even that was fairly unlikely as the roads between those three places are all full of side streets and parking lots.
But actually, yeah, that was a bit of harmless . Just like the journey with the tire was harmless!
-
@FrostCat said in βπ THE BAD IDEAS THREAD:

True. anecdote is part of it, but post hoc certainly encapsulated the core fallacy better
